“Unexpected gem near Zocalo in Oaxaca.”
Reviewed 17 June 2013

Although I've stayed here before, I was bumped from an Aeromexico flight and was give the choice to stay by the airport in Oaxaca or downtown. I chose downtown, since I travel every year there and I'm familiar with the city. The Hostal de La Noria, is a beautiful hotel just a block and a half from the Zocalo, and I found it to be a oasis the staff was very courteous and the room was not only comfortable, but was charmingly decorated. The only drawback is that they have no elevator. But I still highly recommend it.

I've stayed in Hostal de la Noria twice - close to the zocalo, well maintained, really beautiful place! There are a couple courtyards - a front one that is part of the restaurant, and a more quiet back one. Wireless throughout the hotel, and I really have enjoyed the food at the hotel restaurant.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't have a window out to the street - they can be noisy. (this applies t...

Well placed near the main square, this traditional hotel in fine old building offers good value for money with breakfast in rather formal restaurant. Very helpful staff always on hand. Having declined the first room offered as it had no windows, we opted for an alternative which had. In this room and the adjacent one the double glazing seals had failed which gave a foggy appearance. Overall a pleasant stay.

This hotel was very well located, close to the main square, good walking area and close to good restaurants. Staff was very friendly and our room was very quiet and comfortable. The hotel was clean, breakfast while we were there was not a buffet but ordered from the menu. Coffee was very good.

Beautiful city, beautiful hotel. Two blocks away from Main Square, where you can find Arts and Crafts and nice restaurants. The Hotel Restaurant is good.
Beds are some how hard. Be prepared. People at front desk are kind and helpful.
Is always better and cheaper to let them help you in tour arrangements.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back and upstairs are quieter.

Lovely colonial building in a great location close to the main square. Reception staff were very helpful and welcoming and service for drinks and lunch time snacks in the patio was great. No problems at all with noise if you ask for an room that does not have a window onto the street. Found the beds firm but very comfortable.

Wifi was quick, free and available in the rooms. There were no safe boxes in the rooms but individual safe boxes available at reception-.Be aware, though, that they are too small for an iPad or large camera.

Overall, a very pleasant stay only marred by the experience at breakfast on the final day. On the first two mornings there were other groups in the hotel and breakfast was a very acceptable buffet. On the third morning with only our small group there was no buffet and options were dictated to us - fruit or fruit juice but not both (and a request for yoghourt on the fruit was refused) and then cereal or eggs but not both. Cooked eggs were delivered before you had finished the fruit or juice and were cold by the time they were eaten. As another reviewer has commented a second cup of coffee or tea was brought grudgingly. To give the hotel its due only one surly waiter was to blame. The others on other mornings had been cheerful and obliging.

What we liked about the hotel was:
Nice colonial building
Great location
What we did not like was:
Hard beds
Noise from inside and outside the hotel (wafer thin walls)
Poor service at breakfast

In conclusion, this should be a lovely quaint hotel but it is spoilt by the above. If you need a good nights sleep and friendly service then this is not the hotel for you. Otherwise, it is an acceptable place to stay.
