Having read reviews about noise we asked specifically to have a quiet room at check in and were offered a choice of 2, both cramped. But we got used to the small space and felt it worth it to avoid the street noise in this centrally located hotel. Despite the lack of space, we still had coffee making facilities and wi-Fi, both of which we have become accustomed to in Mexico. The main courtyard is delightful and service very pleasant, including by those staff members who didn't speak English. Breakfast was so-so but we didn't eat in the restaurant which was almost empty during our 3 night stay. We even got to watch the Champions League Final in the not very inviting bar! The small swimming pool is tucked away in a separate courtyard which is also the smoking area- but no one was around when I went to look at it.

If what you want is traditional architecture, patio, AC, balcony, a lounge, restaurant, and just step out to walk around Oaxaca's historical downtown, Hostal de la Noria is your choice. Its high wooden ceilings and tile bathrooms make your stay very pleasant with quiet rooms and birdie hallways.

A friend and I just returned from Oaxaca last night after a very enjoyable 5 night stay at Hostal de La Noria. This is not a "hostel" as you might think such as a youth hostel-it is a reglular hotel. We were greeted with a smile from the moment we walked in and were treated with courtesy and friendliness every time we interacted with the people working in the hotel-from the room and property cleaners to reception to the waiters.
This is an old style charming Oaxaca hotel with an interior courtyard and roof top patio. There are interesting paintings here and there, metal trees of life, and wonderful tile panel murals for the decor in the common areas. There is a very small pool which we didn't use, but we did see some young boys in swim suits who looked quite happy!

Our room was large with two double beds, a small dressing table type area, and a good sized bathroom with a very big shower. Everything was kept quite clean and tidy each day. They offer all the usual items such as shampoo, etc plus a nice dish of candies including some Oaxaca chocolate. The room had an AC unit plus a ceiling fan both of which were greatly appreciated since this is the hot and humid time in Oaxaca.

As for noise, when you are only two short blocks from the very busy Zocalo, there will always be some noise at times...but, having asked for a quiet room, our room was fine. We were on the 3rd floor with no elevator, which sounds awful, but it helped with the quiet-plus, we were a few steps from the very nice roof top patio.

Since we did have someone take our bags up and down, the walk up the stairs a few times a day was not a problem. (And we are both over 65!)

We had a few meals in the lovely interior patio of the hotel and in the dining room (think plants outside and fabric tablecloths inside) What we did eat was tasty and cooked to order. I am gluten free and was eating my own little GF bars each morning brought from home, but I was never made to feel uncomfortable. My order of bacon came well cooked with a smile. We did eat most meals in the Zocalo to enjoy the people watching but found that the hotel prices, especially for breakfast, were about the same.

As for other aspects of the location...Just around the corner(make a right as you walk out the door of the hotel and another right at the corner)is a free(YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT) doctor next to a pharmacy. My friend ate something in Mexico City the day before we got to Oaxaca and needed a consult and some meds...and on the same side of the street as the hotel are 3 or 4 $$ exchanges.

All in all, this was a terrific place to stay in Oaxaca-clean, friendly and helpful people, with a good location.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room.

Nicely situated in the centre of Oaxaca (Wahaca in English), this charming hotel is quite quirky in style and I had a lovely room which was quite spacious. Nicely furnished looking out onto the street. The main square is just a short walk along the street. I didn't use the restaurant in the evening as I wasn't particularly hungry. We did receive a welcoming drink on arrival. The breakfast area isn't really suitable, especially if there are a couple of tour groups in the hotel. It can get a bit chaotic!

Room Tip: with a variety of rooms in the hotel it is difficult to suggest which your be the best type. Probab...

This is a unique beautiful, historic, hacienda hotel, located a few minutes from the fabulous Oaxaca and a pedestrian-only street. The ambience is warm and inviting. There is a quiet roof terrace with a lovely view of the city and another small pool interior terrace for quiet times. Rooms vary in size and look, but all are charming. Staff are helpful and very friendly. The only issue is a restaurant which serves only average food and seems somewhat disorganized. So-stay in, but eat out.

Room Tip: Interior room are quieter, but darker.

Our group, of 30, ("Secretos de México") just spent a long week-end in Oaxaca and we stayed at Hostal de la Noria. The hotel is very comfortable, clean and excellent location, very central and within walking distance of main sights. We had breakfast in hotel, one not so good but two super, local traditional dishes well served by attentive staff. Rooms are ample and bathrooms impecable There are some rooms on ground level, second floor not a problem but third floor a bit much for older people! There is no elevator as the building is protected located in the "Historical centre" and any changes have to be approved which is a bit complicated! Overall, I can recommend Hostal de la Noria!
