“A 'must-see' while in Oaxaca”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

I recently visited this Museum on a tour organized by the OLL and conducted by Janet Stanley. This museum is truly exceptional and the commentary by our knowledgeable guide added to our pleasure. However, the norm is to visit it on your own.

The building is lovely and the design and colours and layout for the displays were determined by Rufino Tamayo himself.

The location is close to the zocalo, the hours are good, the admission is cheap and it definitely should be included on your agenda while in Oaxaca. A worthwhile experience.

“Inspiring work”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

It was wonderful to see the beautiful creations that were created by the people of Oaxaca before western influences arrived. The setting is lovely and relaxing ... you can take a rest in the courtyard.

“Great private collection now available to the public”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

It is always excellent when a private collector (otherwise known as a tomb raider) offers up his collection for public viewing. I am teasing a bit with the first comment, as I know the perspective on collection ancient artifacts has changed over the years. In this case, the gentleman build the museum with his own funds at a considerable expense. The building itself is magnificent.
The collection is excellent and contains many unique pieces. I enjoyed several hours here.

“WONDERFUL”
Reviewed 14 March 2014

This beautiful museum is located near the center of town in a lovely old home restored by the Tamayos. For any one interested in pre Columbian artifacts, this museum is a must and a joy. It houses a really extraordinary collection assembled with thought and care. The museum alone is worth the trip to Oaxaca. Many thanks to the Tamayos for providing this experience.
