“nice place, good price, good location”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

We spent 8 nights in Casa Arnel, changing rooms one time because we went away for afew day in the middle of our stay..OUr rooms were small and the beds really hard. The first room had a pretty lousy shower and it got the whole bathroom wet, but the second room was much better. I would recommend getting a room in the back as ours were in the front overlooking the church, and it was pretty noisy on weekends. the breakfast was good and prices reasonable. The best part for sure is the upstairs patio...it is a great space to sit and chill out after a day of exploring, to meet other guests, and they even have a couple of hammocks, which my husband enjoyed. Internet worked great in our rooms, which were directly above the office area. I thought the location was great...about a 10 minute walk to the main Zocolo, which was great because there were any number of routes to take, all providing new sights and discoveries. WE went hiking in the Seirra Norte and were able to store our bags at the hotel for 3 nights without charge, which was a huge bonus. Felt safe and secure with night watchman and he gave early morning wakeup calls and arranged for cabs in pre-dawn hours. It wasn't the nicest place we looked at, but for money, and the location, it was great. I would stay there again. I would just ask for a room away from the noisy street.

The only reason I've given it 4 rather than 5 is for the water pressure in the shower. I never really got more than a trickle. Otherwise the rooms were great. Comfortable beds, good wifi signal and friendly staff. It really felt like a family hotel. Although the downside of that was that the family actually does live here so there was a bit of noise until lateish at night as they packed up after they finished working. You also have to ring a doorbell in order to get in which was great for security but also got a bit annoying at night as people were dinging at all hours to be allowed back in to their rooms

Budget hotel, pretty, lush garden, family run. That said, you have to keep on them to have things up to standard. Dead cockroach in my room (at least it was dead) Wifi almost non-existent.Noisy at times. Bathroom basic -- leaky shower head, no mat on floor, water went everywhere. Lovely view from the roof, a good place to have a drink before dinner and watch the sunset. Nice neighbourhood, 5 minutes from Llano Park.

Room Tip: CHoose a room away from the road (less noisy) and .with bathroom -- the shared toilet is awful

Bathrooms were dirty. We asked for them to be cleaned and they weren't. There was only one share bathroom available per floor with about 15 rooms on each. No soap provided and shower heads leaked or barely worked. Worst place I've ever stayed at.

The Lonely Planet described this place as charming- I don't know what they were talking about. We stayed here with a tour group during day of the dead celebrations 30th Oct- 1st Nov and we had to share bathrooms which normally would be fine but these were disgusting. The rooms were small and hot and full of mosquitoes. While we were there the staff did scrub the toilet and replace shower heads but by then it was too late- ended up sleeping at a hotel down the road.

The rooms are very basic and if you are on the upper floor carrying your luggage up and down a small and steep staircase can be kind of risky. And the staff will help you only if expressly requested and not kindly. The location is not bad but anyway it takes 15 minutes to walk to the center. The WiFi is not in the hotel but in the nearby bar which means you have to buy something to use it

Stayed at Hotel Casa Arnel for 2 nights with tour group. My friend and I shared a small room with single beds each. The room was small but sufficient as a base. There was a screened window with blinds, however with this opened it was insufficient to allow a breeze on the hot nights we were there, so we opened the room door all night. Not the safest option, however we all had to resort to this measure.

The bathroom was a toilet, shower and basin combined in one room. It was shared by 12 of us (all travelling in the same group). Wasn't a fan of this set up and had been spoilt by previous hotels. Some issues with cleanliness - prior to guests using the facilities.

The hotel has a cooking school attached to it and they also serve a good breakfast. There is also a cafe attached to the hotel which is open to late. There was free wi-fi, which was unreliable. The hotel sold cold water, soft drink and some beer. No complimentary bottled water supplied at this hotel.

It is located in a quiet location. Close to main bus stop which is the method used to travel to and from there by our group. The centre of town is a decent walk.

Staff were accommodating, though not as welcoming as others met on this trip. The gardens and terrace are very appealing and there is a library hidden in the courtyard.

If you are after budget accommodation and can overlook communal bathrooms, this is the place for you.
