We were told about this place in Reforma, a good area adjacent to Centro on the North. They serve all kinds of “tacos”, which are really quite different than the local fare, each one made individually for your order. You usually get one per order (not expensive), so this gave us a chance to try a number of varieties. And the corn bread postre was fabulous! Moist like a pudding.

This subdued restaurant is a gem. The owners are an agronomist and his biochemist wife. Their goal is to introduce patrons to the unique flavor of products made from locally produced, indigenous strains of corn, grown by local farmers for generations. Try a stuffed triangle called a tetela filled with cheese, cream, local mushrooms and herbs, hand made on a clay stove fueled by firewood. Corn drinks like atole, fresh juices and other corn based treasures are freshly prepared before your eyes. I highly recommend Itanoní.

We took a cab but walked back. We enjoyed each dish that we had, but since we do not read Spanish we did a lot of pointing. We were not disappointed. Great place for lunch.

A little outside the center of town. We took a taxi there. They have unusual drinks, all containing corn, which is the ingredient in which they specialize. You can watch the cook knead the masa, make the tortilla, cook it and fill it. A fun meal.

With a reverence for heirloom corn and fillings de casuela (casserole style), this restaurant is a must for foodies. One of the two restaurants mentioned in the tome "Where Chefs Eat." It's the real thing and tasty too. Humble decor, low prices and fantastic minted lemonade.
