“Do Not Waste Your Hard Earned Money”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

I usually suggest that before making a decision based on Trip Advisor, that one carefully read several reviews and make an educated decision. However, in this ONE case....there is no need to read any other review. The rooms are miniscule. They resemble the interior stateroom on an old cruise ship. The rooms have no character.....no Mexican charm. They are sterile....no table, no chairs, one bed, two end tables that fit very snugly. There is one very small drawer in each night stand. There is a closet...sort of. Before booking I read to request a third floor room away from the noise. The noise not only comes from the outside.....but inside as well. The inside chaos permeates throughout the building. Earplugs are of no help. Oh yes....the towels resemble tissue paper. I have requested one extra towel two nights ago....still have not rev'd it. There are hair dryers......you just have to sign your life away to get one. Please....Oaxaca is a wonderful place filled with quaint boutique hotels....enjoy your nights at some other hotel!

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel!

I was here for Day of the Dead and it was close to a lot of the holiday activities and to the Zocalo. One of the biggest drawbacks was the noise. I expect a city to be noisy, but here the noise was coming from INSIDE the hotel. The first night, it sounded like someone was power-washing the lobby every 15 minutes. I later figured out that this was the sound of the elevator. You can basically hear people talking in the lobby two floors below when your door is closed. The biggest issue i had was with the restaurant. It was UNBELIEVABLY slow. The first day i waited an hour for breakfast. The second day i ordered two scrambled eggs (to keep it simple and quick) and waited 45 minutes. The third day...i ate in the Zocalo three blocks away for half the price. Bottom line: there are other more charming, less expensive hotels in town. This one is really not worth the price.

Yes, in good location near downtown, but rooms extremely compact, including bathrooms/showers. Extremely noisy due to the structure of the building...can even hear guests arriving or departing. There is no hair dryer/iron/complimentary coffee, etc.. It lacks many complimentary items that other hotels in Oaxaca will automatically include during your stay...and yes, pricey too!!

Definitely will not stay under this environment ever again!

Room Tip: You should shop around downtown Oaxaca for a better choice of hotels. .

Hotel Abu is in a great location, the breakfast is delicious, and the hotel is kept very clean. The shampoo, hand cream, soap, and a small water bottle are complimentary - but a slightly larger water bottle with the number 30 printed on the cap is not free. The 30 on the cap indicates that it costs 30 pesos ($2.40). A gallon of bottled water costs much less than that in a store around the corner. My husband and I stayed in Hotel Abu 9 nights. We didn't complain that water was not left in the room each day because we regularly bought water at the nearby store. We were charged for 6 bottles of water when we checked out - even though only 4 had been left in the room. I know that food and drink in a refrigerator are not free, but our room did not have a refrigerator. We suggested the hotel leave a sign that the water is not free!

Room Tip: None of the rooms are quiet because of street or patio noise, but when people don't talk in the...

My wife and I went to Oaxaca for our anniversary...booked this hotel based on your reviews and the price.
I can tell you that the Location is more than perfect...everything is 3 blocks away.
The only "con" with this hotel is that the rooms have vents in the windows so you basically hear everything like it is inside your room...our first room was next to the stairs so the first night we slept close to nothing...BUT the people from the front desk were awesome and moved us to the 3rd floor literally at the corner...problem solved.
If you are looking for a great value, location, price, service and cleanliness BOOK this hotel!

Abu hotel has an excellent location in the city center. This street connects you with most of the points of interest in the city. The room was absolutely clean, but with a little musty odor. The personnel at the front desk provide information in case you need it. Very quiet at night to sleep.Wi- Fi is free.

The hotel is located in downtown Oaxaca... just in the middle of the two most important points : Zocalo & Sto Domingo.
Very clean hotel, great service although a little bit expensive. a little noisy when other guest arrive to their rooms (hallways) but if you don't mind a little bit of noise, this is perfect for you.
