“Don't miss this.”

The exhibits from the Monte Albán tomb are a must see, and the rest of the pre-hispanic materials are also wonderful. The later materials not so much. The building itself is worth the look just by itself. One of the biggest monastery complexes of the New World, very lavish (built on profits from the cochineal trade). While there, visit the Templo (next door and free) and the Ethnobotanic garden.

“A help to understanding”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

Many of the original items from the area have been moved to Mexico City but that does not detract from the displays which bring together artefacts from aupimd the area. Allow yourself a generous hour to get a feel for the area and longer if you want to linger in the various halls.

After visiting Mexico city museum, which was very well done, this was disapointing in that the displays were very mediocre and lighting bad.Great stuff, especially some of the jewellry but hard to see the pieces well.

“You've got to go here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014

If you're in Oaxaca, you must walk through the museum. It's wonderful. You get both some of the history from precolonial times along with rooms with colonial artifacts. You can spend a short amount of time here or quite a long day. The rooms are outstanding and the setting is really special. Walk through at your leisure. Spend time enjoying what you like and then get views of the botanic garden next door. Whatever you do, don't miss this place.

“Best in Oaxaca”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014

This place is amazing if you are a museum person. However, all of the plaques are in Spanish, so they do offer an audio tour in English. The museum is full of Monte Alban artifacts. It is a huge place with botanical gardens that are amazing.
