A Beautiful museum in a historic Oaxaca building. The museum will guide you through the many stages of development and cultures that have created the wonderful city that surrounds the museum.

The museum is next to the cathedral . The security check to get in is over-zealous. You cannot take cigarettes, lighters, chewing gum or bags - they have to be left at the luggage room.

The museum itself is pretty big over 2 floors.

There are plenty of artefacts - usual stuff...cooking utensils, orniaments, tools etc etc of the oaxacan people.

Information only in Spanish so it's pretty boring if you don't speak the lingo. Worth a visit if you have a couple of spare hours to kill in Oaxaca.

This was a complete surprise to my husband and myself. A wonderful old monastery that had been renovated into a compelling museum. Not so much in English but the pieces on display were wonderful

Even though I couldn't read the Spanish commentaries I had a wonderful time walking round this amazing building. The view of the central courtyard alone is worth going for. I love the stairs and corridors with the shiny terracotta tiles. For me the most exciting exhibits were the artefacts collected from the to be Monte Alban which are stunning.

I have been to Mexico a number of times and somehow missed this gem. You could spend many hours and still not absorb all the exhibits. There was a musician performing in a courtyard. All-in-all, this was the highlight of our trip.
