“Oaxaca elegance and comfort”
Reviewed 14 November 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Maria was a gracious host who went out of her way to welcome us to her beautiful home. It was clear that she was connected to the community in a way that made us welcome not just in her aesthetically beautiful guesthouse but also in in her larger network of friendships. The trip was significant because of the cultural significance of the day of the dead. A peaceful and conveniently located sanctuary in a stimulating and vibrant bustle of Oaxaca.

“My favorite home-away-from-home!”
Reviewed 3 November 2016 for a stay in September 2016

My second time around spending a month at Casa Palomita was mid-September - mid-October. And, as was the first stay a couple years ago, it was nothing but pleasure. The location is excellent, in a quiet and historical neighborhood a 20 minute walk from the zocalo. The house is beautifully designed and furnished (that's an understatement), including a fully furnished kitchen; Lu, the on-site manager, is delightful (that's an understatement) - always helpful, never intrusive. (Just prior to this visit, I had experienced a small health scare; however, I was confident that if I had any problems while at la casa, Lu could cope.) One begins to feel a part of the neighborhood, greeting neighbors, buying basics at the local tienda and nearby market. Even the noisily protective local dogs down the street get to know you and just lift an eyelid when you pass. La Casa is a perfect haven to awake to bird song, to return to tranquility at the end of days exploring, or, if one is blessed with enough time, to just enjoy the ambiance of the house, its art, its colors, its comforts. I hope to return!

“Marvelous experience”
Reviewed 22 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We found the house just as charming as advertised and very well equipped. Ellen did mention that the doorway to the little patio where the laundry is located could also use a pull down shade to help keep the heat out during the day but that is a very minor defect and I only mention it because you asked if there was anything that we could suggest. We would love to return, perhaps in a slightly cooler month. I chose April because I am still working part time for a school district and it is my spring break.

Lu was an absolute angel and we very much appreciated her help during our stay. Also we did hire Don Vidal several days and he was also a delight. Such a nice person and as you said very knowledgeable and helpful. One day he took us to the centro de abastos and guided us around to help us find the things we were looking for...no small task in that warren of puestos!! Your guide to the house and Oaxaca is impressive and was very useful, thank you.

We took a couple of cooking classes, one in Oaxaca and one in Teotitlan del Valle. Alma de mi Tierra and El Sabor Zapoteco, both of which we would recommend heartily to your other guests.

Thank you once again for sharing your lovely house and local knowledge with us, it was all really a wonderful experience.

“an excellent place to stay”

Casa Palomita is a warm and comfortable place to stay. It is well furnished, beds are very comfortable, The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and cutlery. The house is located in a safe neighborhood with stores and parks very close by. The walk to the zocolo takes about 20 minutes which is an easy stroll.

Maria, the owner is very responsive. The house book she sends if you make a reservation is filled with useful information. Lu is onsite in a separate small house. She is delightful and is able to answer questions you may have, as well as make arrangements for any small fixes you may need...ie, we identified a small problem with the washing machine and it was shortly fixed.

“Fifth great winter staying at Casa Palomita”
Reviewed 22 February 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We just arrived home after our fifth winter sojourn at Casa Palomita. Trying to stretch it out a littel each year, we spent six weeks there in Jan-Feb. All its virtues are intact--there are few better feelings than escaping winter in Boston at noon, and arriving to Lu's warm greeting that evening in Oaxaca. Every year, Maria and Lu add some pleasing artistic new touches: a cactus garden on the patio this year. Oaxaca retains its charms as a "second" home, and we continue to be grateful to Maria for sharing it with us.

“Loved Casa Palomita”

I absolutely loved staying at Casa Palomita. Everything was completely thought out. The layout of the house was perfect for having guests come down and stay. I told my friends I would love to duplicate the layout in my retirement home.

Vidal, the driver you recommended is a sweet man. We used him often and he came over a few nights for inter-cambio and help with his homework. Thank you for that introduction. Lu was great--very unobtrusive but really helpful with any questions I had.

I would rent your place again in a heartbeat. I already looked at this year's availability and there are not a lot of openings because the place is so great!

“This house lacked nothing!”
Reviewed 24 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We loved our time in Casa Palomita. It truly is beyond compare as far as we are concerned.
We were astounded at the quality of the appointments and good taste of the owner. The kitchen was completely functional, it lacked nothing. The house is a gorgeous restoration and extremely comfortable. Lu ( the caretaker) is such a sweet, hardworking young woman with a great sense of humor. She was really helpful. Also Flor amazed me with her energy. Wish I could have someone as good clean my home. We are thankful to the owner for making such a lovely place available.
