“Good location! Good breakfast!”
Reviewed 1 February 2014 via mobile

The location of this hotel is very central and we found that we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The staff is very friendly and the bonus of getting a free hot breakfast if you pay in cash is awesome! The layout of the hotel is a bit odd and our room was right near the front door/reception. I would imagine this layout is pretty normal in Oaxaca though due to older buildings. The only issue we had was the noise coming from the courtyard/restaurant as our room was attached to the courtyard. This is mainly only an issue in the mornings when breakfast service begins. Overall we give hotel parador san Agustin 2 thumbs up!

This place was very nice - the breakfast menu, although limited, is delightful (the small fruit plate (less than $3) was a light breakfast in and of itself). The rooms are enormous, private, and comfortable. I noticed right away that the linens and bedspread seemed truly clean- NOT the norm at hotels!
The staff is friendly, accomodating, and helpful. They let us keep our bags there all day after we'd checked out but were waiting for our flight. It's very close to the zocalo (but a block away, so quiet) and the andador turistico (walking neighborhood, shops, museums, etc. Close to everything we wanted to do, actually! Nice market several blocks away... not too touristy.
Enourmous jugs of cold, purified water all over - something I came to realize was essential but definitely not to be expected at other hotels.

My only complaint would be that the layout of the hotel (although very nice-looking) means the courtyard is the dining room, which means that everyone's breakfast noise travels to your room if you try to sleep in. We were in two different rooms (one on the ground floor, one on the second story) and this was an issue both times. We also had about 30 TV channels in the downstairs room and only 6 upstairs.... Beds are hard, but after 1 night, I slept fantastically.
Overall, great place.

Room Tip: Eat at the Blue Lobo cafe down the street (on the next block). Every day. All the time. Their food i...

It was a pleasure to stay at San Agustin. With an English speaker always around the friendly staff was also happy to let us practice Spanish. A front, street facing room was a little noisy in the evenings but not enough to keep us awake. We were there for 9 days and stayed most of our time in the Margarita Suite. Lovely sitting areas on patios and court yard with filtered water always available. yummy breakfasts. The place was spotless. It was great to stay so close to the Zocolo in this beautifully adapted home, turned hotel. A wonderful Mexican experience.

Room Tip: There is no pool, I just can't get the form to go back to "0"

We would have given an excellent review for many reasons, except for the location of our room. We were in a suite in the back above the kitchen. I would recommend that if your stay here, the front section of the hotel is the place to be.

Location is terrific, staff very helpful, amenities are all you can ask for in a Oaxaca hotel. Just sleep in the front section.

By the way, the school next store is not a distraction.

Located very close to cultural sights as well as the Zocolo.Good breakfasts, and free if you pay for your room by cash.We booked our tours at an agency at the Zocolo. When you go on the tour a lady walks you down to a close-by street intersection and waits with you until you are picked up in a minivan. However on the return from this tour you are not dropped off at the same intersection. The drop off could be close by or as in one case at a Hotel at a not too short distance away. This distance may be not really that far but since you are not familiar with this city you may end in a spot you have never been before and end up walking a little more (or more than a little) finding your way back. The San Agustin does offer to arrange tours so this may not happen if you book through them. There are several currency traders near the hotel offering different rates but all better than the banks, plus you do not have to line up or need a photocopy of your passport to exchange.

This is a really nice place as all reviews say. Good large rooms albeit with hard beds. Nice staff and breakfast included if you pay cash. Couldn't be better placed for the zocalo which meant short rests between site seeing was possible. Highly recommended.

From the moment we arrived, we felt comfortable and welcomed. The location was perfect for us, as we went to every museum, gallery and cultural event we could. So many concerts are free in Oaxaca. In addition to the zocalo, which is a great place to people watch, there is the alcala, a street blocked off to traffic where there are buskers and vendors galore, as well as the famous book store Amate with a great selection of books in English. I cannot say enough about the staff, in fact I want to mention them by name: Julisses, Gabriel, Eli and Leticia. They happily engaged in a mix of Spanish and English, and went way, way out of their way to help when I had a situation requiring going to the police station. Leticia, then Eli, accompanied me there and translated, insisting that it was part of their job. I was impressed. I loved breakfast (oh, do drink the "jugo verde" -- it is made from cactus, tastes great and lowers cholesterol!). Parador San Agustin is a little gem.. and you will meet others, Americans, Canadians and people from other countries who are just great to chat with in the mornings. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a window to outside, ask for that. Our first room didn't have one, and...
