We stayed at the Casa Mexicana for 3 days which was a birthday present for me from my wife. What a great present! The hotel was beautiful with attractive rooms and good beds to get a good night sleep after many hours of twisty roads in a bus... very welcome! The bathroom was clean and the hot water was hot. The hotel has gardens covered by a glass atrium roof so you stay dry once there during the downpours that happen in Chiapas this time of year. The service was friendly and helpful with anything we asked. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to San Cristobal de las Casas.

We were travelling by car and were up to a cofortable hotel. We read about Casa Mexicana in our travell guides, and after revising a list of hostels and hotels at the tourist office, decided to pass by. We informed about vacancys at the desk, and I believe we stayed there for 3 nights. The person behind the desk was verry griendly and we even got a discount. Our room was located at the hotel building across the street of the main building. Both buildings form the hotel were really beautifull. Lovely open patios, vegetation, art and seating areas.

The bellboy kindly unloaded all our stuff from the car, and then guided us to the nearby parking area. You can get massages at the hotel and althoug we wantend to try them we did not get the chance. Breakfast was not included, however, the hotel has a great central location and you can easily find bakers, restaurants, ... nearby if you whish to have cheap breakfast. We had a lovely room, with a comfortable king size bed and airconditinning. The room was not verry big but there was enough storrage room and we found it to be ideal. The windows were at the patio side, and thus we had no noize from the street at all. There was a tv and free wifi (and pc's if you don't have your own). We did miss a little fridge or minibar, but this often the case whith accomadationts throughout Mexico.

One mornng we did not have warm water in the shower, although the staff tried to fix the problem they were not able to. We asked if we could take a shower in another room and this was arranged immediatly. Easy solution. Staff is there 24h if you need anything.

Overall we were verry pleased with our stay and we do recommend this hotel if you are planning a stay in San Cristobal.

Spent three nights during a business trip. Didn't spend too much time in the hotel, which is probably fortunate. The rooms were pretty basic, no frills. That said, the bed was comfortable, the wireless access was decent, and....not much more to say. The room I was in was pretty stuffy, but not noisy, as others have said. There wasn't really a desk of any sort to work on, and actually, not much of a space to put luggage or hang clothes, so really quite a limited utility room.
Breakfast was generally quite good, even if a number of the wait staff (and bartender) were pretty surly. The got the job done, but didn't seem like they really wanted to be there, nor did they make visitors feel particularly welcome.
I wouldn't return if I had other choices, but it was decent enough if in a pinch.

The hotel has a great location - 2 blocks from the cathedral and 2 blocks from the Artesian Market. It has a restaurant on site which is OK but there are many others near by.

The hotel is spread over two buildings on either side of c/28 de Agosto (we were on the side opposite to reception) and less than 10 minutes walk to the centre of town. The rooms in our part of the hotel are arranged around an attractive colonnaded courtyard with a well-tended lawn.

The bedroom was very pretty and very comfortable, but with limited storage space, and a wee bit dark owing to the fact that the sun got little chance to shine in through the window, which gave on to the courtyard. As we were in a mountain region and it was yet only spring we were grateful for the electric radiator which we found in the room.

The reception area was next to a garden area dominated by banana trees and other lush foliage and furnished with Mayan artefacts and more modern paintings (although still with a Mexican theme). It led into the breakfast room, which also opened out into the garden, where we took a perfectly satisfactory breakfast, if the range was not quite as wide as that in Mexico City. There was a free internet terminal just beyond reception, but it had a distinctly dodgy keyboard and it took us a long time to send off even a single email. Staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful – including the night porter for our block who seems to spend the night sleeping on a chair just inside the heavy door separating the courtyard from the street.

As for the town itself - given the countless bars, restaurants and shops, not to mention the attractive views round nearly every corner, you can see why it is reputed to be one of the nicest towns to visit in the whole of Mexico – a verdict that I am not going to dispute.
