“Adequate accommodation”

Based upon their advertising and our research, we were expecting a more upscale hotel experience. The room was clean but rather small and crowded. Bed was comfortable, but loaded with so many blankets and pillows that they had to be thrown on the floor making the space even more crowded. Bath and shower o.k., but small. Great downtown location close to the plaza and market...a must experience. Pretty court yards and gardens.

Charming small colonial hotel near Santa Domingo Cathedral. Loved the architecture; room adequate size, charming artwork and great beds. Room looked out to the courtyard that is surrounded by all rooms. The bedding is very heavy on top of you. Sheet, blanket, quilt in duvet; but wonderful on cold nights. Parking for car is not on site but just a block away and secure in public lot with sites set aside for hotel. Overall, pleasant.

Our visit began with a sweet welcome at the airport by dear Armando who welcomed us and drove us to the hotel where we had the first of many delicious healthy meals. The staff was helpful and friendly. The accommodations comfortable and clean. In a central location, we walked all over this lovely old city from the hotel. It was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend the hotel and the restaurant.

I stayed in Hotel Casa Mexiana for a weekend last November and I have to give it my best recommendation. Clean and comfortable rooms, great artwork everywhere and heating (which is neccesary in November becouse it can get really cold!).
I especially love the artwork which gives the place a really good feeling.
The staff is friendly and the restaurant has good food and great athmosphere. There is a garden in the middle of the hotel with big plants, very nice to sit there enjoying your food.
The hotel is situated near the center so its easy to reach the major touristic places.

Attractive building in a great location. The public areas are lovely and very atmospheric. There is a nice bar and restaurant. The rooms are not large but very comfortable with good beds. The hotel was in a quiet spot but just a couple of moments from the pedestrianised centre. This is certainly a place worth visiting.

We stayed at the Casa Mexicana for 3 days which was a birthday present for me from my wife. What a great present! The hotel was beautiful with attractive rooms and good beds to get a good night sleep after many hours of twisty roads in a bus... very welcome! The bathroom was clean and the hot water was hot. The hotel has gardens covered by a glass atrium roof so you stay dry once there during the downpours that happen in Chiapas this time of year. The service was friendly and helpful with anything we asked. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to San Cristobal de las Casas.

We were travelling by car and were up to a cofortable hotel. We read about Casa Mexicana in our travell guides, and after revising a list of hostels and hotels at the tourist office, decided to pass by. We informed about vacancys at the desk, and I believe we stayed there for 3 nights. The person behind the desk was verry griendly and we even got a discount. Our room was located at the hotel building across the street of the main building. Both buildings form the hotel were really beautifull. Lovely open patios, vegetation, art and seating areas.

The bellboy kindly unloaded all our stuff from the car, and then guided us to the nearby parking area. You can get massages at the hotel and althoug we wantend to try them we did not get the chance. Breakfast was not included, however, the hotel has a great central location and you can easily find bakers, restaurants, ... nearby if you whish to have cheap breakfast. We had a lovely room, with a comfortable king size bed and airconditinning. The room was not verry big but there was enough storrage room and we found it to be ideal. The windows were at the patio side, and thus we had no noize from the street at all. There was a tv and free wifi (and pc's if you don't have your own). We did miss a little fridge or minibar, but this often the case whith accomadationts throughout Mexico.

One mornng we did not have warm water in the shower, although the staff tried to fix the problem they were not able to. We asked if we could take a shower in another room and this was arranged immediatly. Easy solution. Staff is there 24h if you need anything.

Overall we were verry pleased with our stay and we do recommend this hotel if you are planning a stay in San Cristobal.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hotel Casa Mexicana is located in the beautiful mountainous and colonial city of San Cristóbal. It is centrally located within walking distance of many historical sites. We offer you all the amenities, comforts and personal services of a fine hotel, relax in the interior sky-lit garden, enjoying the original mexican art treasures assambled here. The guest rooms all open into the gardens or private courtyards. We built the Hotel Casa Mexicana with the idea of offering our guests a little bit more than just a hotel, our goal was to create a space filled with art, folk - art and the presence of nature, which would be very Mexican. We invited our artist friends, who had been to San Cristobal beforehand, to create artistic pieces which speak about it. And we searched in all Mexico for the very special and beautiful pieces of folk - art which we display here, too. We are very satisfied with what we have realized so far and everyday we put out all our energy to still become better and have you feel relaxed here and enjoying the hotel. ... more   less
