The hotel itself is very nice, the nicest in town that we discovered when checking out others. The rooms surround a large lobby area with covered and uncovered space. In SC having covered space is paramount when it rains, we spent a lot of time in there waiting for rain to clear. The location is perfect, only a half block from central. Bugs were a major problem for us as I ended up with about 200 bites, and the rest of my party did as well. It happened while sleeping under the covers. Not sure what it was, but they were terrible and lasted over a week, very itchy. The motel must address this for us to ever consider re-visiting.

Aside from the bugs, this has to be one of the nicest hotels in SC. The price is pretty high as a result, being about 2-3 times what other local hotels cost.

Room Tip: The rooms up-front by the road are very very noisy from cars driving mere inches from your bed. I would insist on a room in the back away from the road.

I stayed there 2 nights looking for a clean and nice place around 500mex. A real good surprise. Extremely clean, towels changed every day, bed well prepared, bathrooms renewed recently with style. This place is must although this is right that several rooms may not have a window, except the door itself giving access to the patio (little dark). So if you are looking for a 4 stars, pass your way, but for clean rooms with style at reasonable prices, stay here.

We stayed here for 6 nights, including the New Year's Day holiday. We arranged the trip with only about 5 weeks to spare and were happy to find a place that could accommodate us. The location has its good and bad points: being close to the plazas at the centre of town brings convenience, but it also brings (at least at holiday time) noise from performers, drummers, etc. Our room was relatively quiet, but those exposed to the street cannot be the same. San Cristobal is a small town, and nowhere is 'far' from anywhere else - maybe being at the heart of everything isn't an essential here.

We stayed in two different rooms over this period, neither of them ideal. The hotel is fashioned out of an old courtyard house and a fluke in the design of the new spaces channels sounds between some of the rooms. Every cough, flush, etc. can be heard. This wasn't the case in the first room where we stayed, which was quiet and private - but the bathroom wasn't up to the mark. Most of the The rooms give on to a beautiful covered verandah, but you hear everything as groups prepare for early departure - so, not so restful.

The service was OK - nothing remarkable, and some of the reception staff appeared not to enjoy their job to the fullest. I'll go back to San Cristobal, but not to El Paraiso.

Beautiful hotel just a few steps away from the Zocalo. Rooms spotlessly clean and neither too small nor too dark or loud. Staff was very attentive and helpful. All in all I had a VERY pleasant stay there! Would go back any time!

Pros: It is in dead centre of the town - central plaza is only few steps away. The rooms were clean and staff very helpful.
Cons:If you get a room facing the street then it could be a bit noisy. The restaurant there is much pricier than anywhere else in the city so I would recommend eating out.
Otherwise a good choice for people who come to appreciate the local indigenous culture or nature. I would stay there again.
