We were due to stay in a Hostal nearby but having seen the good reviews on trip advisor we chose to stay here instead and we were very glad we did. The place has a great vibe with lovely people working there. The breakfast in the morning is a really nice touch, and the clean kitchen was a great place to cook meals when on a tight budget.

The chill out area by the fire was a nice place to relax and the rooms were pretty decent for the price you pay. The showers were the nicest so far in central America and this really was a very good place to stay.

We stayed a little bit more than a week at the "posada del abuelito" and we really felt at home.
The rooms are really cute and very very clean (thanks Nilly). The patio is a place where you can relax or chat with others backpackers.
We enjoyed every day a good included breakfast with bread and delicious fruits.
Alex and Guillaume were always kindly available for our questions and they recommended us some great activities such as the exclusive coffee plantation tour which is really amazing.
The location of the posada is perfect, central but in a peaceful street.
In other words it's really a perfect place to discover San Cristobal. Enjoy!!

This hostel came highly recommended to me by other travelers that I met in San Cristobal. I stayed in a 9 person-dorm that was maybe half full for 100 pesos. Very nice little courtyard, helpful staff, small kitchen, computer for use, and cozy lounge with a fireplace. The whole place was quite clean.

I loved this place. It seemed to be run by two very laid back hippies, who did everything they could to help you. However, the staff's English isn't amazing, but with hand gestures and the odd words, it was fine. It is almost like a converted barn, very quaint! It was very cold in the evening, but there were 4 extra blankets in the room just in case, so this wasn't a problem. The reception is more like a lounge with a fireplace and sofas. Wifi had a strong signal, so very fast for a hostel. They kept our backpack free of charge in a locked room after check out, as we were getting at night-bus, and let us hang out in the lounge while we waited. Can do all your laundry for 40pesos (about $3). Very cool and unique place to stay and a very short walk to the centre.

I really liked this hostel. It's quite a cute looking, rustic but very clean hostel.
The shared bathroom was clean and the showers were spacious with nice gas-powered hot water. Each guest can use a towel at no extra cost. There is a small garden courtyard area with chairs and tables, an inside fireplace room plus a smallish kitchen that guests can use. The hostel has one computer and WIFI. The dormitory bed was very comfortable and each guest gets a locker. The hostel is approx 5 mins walking distance from Plaza Santo Domingo and maybe 10 mins from the Central Plaza.
The French owners are very nice, friendly and charming (they speak English, Spanish and French) and at 100 pesos for a dorm bed including a bread, fruit, coffee/tea breakfast it was very good value for money!
During the day time, the front door is an easy to open wooden gate which the more security conscious travellers may not like.

The staff is extremely helpful.
They do your laundry for 40 pesos.
They organise trips to el canyon for 300 pesos.
Breakfast is included: fresh bread which you can toast, strawberry jam (I think it's homemade, tea or coffee, fresh fruit(bananas, papaya,...).
Good place to stay, really cosy and homey feeling.
