So many things were right with this hostel:
The helpful, interesting and nice staff
The corteous guests that were easy to talk to
The breakfast!! (home made jam :D)
Our beds were made every day and our clothes etc. folded (This was actually ridiculous! Never have I had that awesome of a cleanup in a hostel)
Great location (3-5 min to main street?)
Cosy and relaxed atmosphere
Fireplace with a fire every night

We didn't want to leave :) Thanks for the wonderful time!

We had a terrific stay in casa Abuelito. The rooms are tidy, clean and unbelievable cheap.
Simon, the Manager was always interested in our well being and gave us a feeling of being home...
Marco, who works often in the late shift was also extraordinary friendly to us.
We will definitely come back to this oasis of peace and coziness

Room Tip: The rooms without bathroom ensuite are absolutely

This is a lovely little posada. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and can arrange excursions for you.

There is one dorm plus some private rooms - I was in the dorm, which is quite small but otherwise nice. The beds are very comfy.

Breakfast is included and is great - eggs, crusty bread with delicious honemade jam, fresh fruit and tea/coffee. The kitchen itself is a bit small but fine as long as only one person is trying to cook at a time!

The bathroom, while nothing special, was clean and the water is nice and hot.

Very peaceful atmosphere and quite strict on noise after 10pm - definitely not a party hostel!

Only downsides are that water is not free (although the room rates are so low it's still a bargain) and it's not as close to the city centre as some other hostels - although it is still only 5 minutes walk from Real de Guadalupe and then another 10 minutes to the zocalo.

Final tip - it is rather inconspicuous from the outside, so easy to miss if you don't know what to look for. The entrance is just a gate in the wall with a small plate next to it saying 'Casa del Abuelito'. Follow the directions given and you should be fine though!

Posada del Abuelito is a great hub for travelers and a very convenient & pleasant base to start exploring San Crostobal and around. The staff is very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable, the place is really cute, cozy and nicely decorated, the breakfast (included) is excellent!

Seeing other travelers' reviews, I really don't have anything else to add. The place is great, I loved it, it's cozy and staff is kind and helpful. I want to return to San Cristobal in the future, and this is certainly the place where I will stay!
