Very clean and large rooms, quiet but close to the main historical centre. It was very good value too and the owner was very hospitable and accommodating to us. It was also great value for budget travelers like us!

Well located on walking distance from all the main places in San Cristobal. We were happy that we could park our rental car inside.

Price is relatively low. Rooms are clean and ok. Staff is friendly but did not really try to understand us with our limited spanish.

We can definitely recommend you to stay here but still a lot can be improved (especially staff and breakfast)

Ofilia and Ernesto as well as the staff are very helpful, friendly and treated us as family members. The included breakfasts are generously proportioned and delicious. We appreciated staying in this quiet neighborhood that is only a few minutes walk from all the action (and noise). I would recommend this B&B without hesitation.

Room Tip: I think the room behind the front desk might have the best light since there are 2 windows opening o...

We recently spent several weeks traveling through Chiapas, Mexico and passed through San Cristobal de las Casas three separate times. Each time we stayed at Posada Sancris on Tapachuela street (2 days each time). You will not find a cleaner, more friendlier place to stay than this Posada. There are several types of rooms to choose from upstairs and down and all are very economical with breakfast included (We favored room # 4). The area is quiet and peaceful yet only a short walk to town. If you have a car, there is offstreet parking. If not, the owners can arange for trips to all the major attractions witin Chiapas. To say the owners are courteous is a huge understatement. They will help with whatever problem you have and do it eagerly. Wi-Fi is free throughout the Posada and the grounds. The signal is very strong at all locations. Rooms have full baths and showers.

Terrible service. Noisy loud staff from morning to night. Over priced. No hot water, unless you request the boiler to be turned on. Breakfast was appalling served by 2 young girls who could barely boil an egg without getting it wrong.

Whatever you do please take my advice, the hostal 2 doors up called posada de abuelita is cheaper (even for private room with double bed) and absolutely charming with great service and great breakfast!

Workmen banging and crashing from morning til evening.

The worst hotel in mexico, in 3 months.

Reading all the extremely positive reviews makes me wonder if we stayed in the same place. But the pictures confirm that we did, so I don't exactly know what everyone is raving about... Maybe the owners changed or something?

Let's start from the beginning: after several recommendations we wanted to stay at the Posada del Abuelito further up the street, but since it was completely full, we came here because it was just 50 meters down the road. The price seemed acceptable if not cheap (380 pesos/night for a double room) and the room was spacious and clean. Later we found out that other guests (also walk-ins) paid different rates (260 pesos/night) for a similar room, although they were unpleasantly surprised at breakfast when they were informed that their rate did not include it, which apparently nobody had told them at check-in.

As for the breakfast itself, it was lackluster at best: the coffee was so thin that we honestly mistook it for tea the first morning and told them not to bother with it after that. Then there were several small slices of toasted bread, butter, some -- admittedly good -- marmalade and a plate of fruit (generally a lot of melon plus one other fruit). We had much nicer breakfasts in cheaper hostels/B&Bs in Mexico.

The staff we interacted with consisted of a middle-aged man (the owner?) and two young women. While the former was nice and helpful, the latter seemed rather demotivated, annoyed by customer's requests (at least one of them) and were mostly preoccupied with watching TV and giggling a lot. Since our room actually faced the lobby, this made for constant and annoying background noise. It also woke us up at 8.45 on a day were we'd rather have slept in, so make sure you manage to get a room upstairs, not one on the ground floor.

Laundry was priced at a common rate of 15 pesos/kg, although some of our stuff was missing when it was returned, but was found after we asked for it. Make sure to check you got everything back.

Of course their are some positive sides too: the rooms are nice and clean, as are the bath rooms. The location is pretty nice, in a quiet street but only 10 minutes walk from the center.

Regarding the low review score: I normally would give this place 3 points, but for me staff who don't seem to have any respect for the sleep/rest of their paying customers are an absolute no-no. It's bad enough to be woken up by obnoxious guests...
