“Beautiful, homey and comfortable”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

Villas Casa Morada is in a great location in San Cristobal, not too close to all the action but far enough to have a quiet rest, enjoy the beautiful rooms with a fireplace, and the garden with a hammock, table and chairs. The staff is welcoming and helpful and the hotel is small enough that it feels more like a home. The breakfast (which was included) is delicious. Book in advance. We wished we could have stayed much longer but it was peak season and the room was only available for a short stay. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: You can ask for the rooms with a terrace.

We spent 2 weeks at Casa Morada in a Junior Suite which includes a separate kitchen-dining-living room. Part of that time we also rented another suite for visiting family members. Part of our stay was during "high season". Our rooms were quiet, clean and very comfortable. The staff was very helpful. The location is about one km from the zocolo; most of the walking route is along a pedestrianized street with lively restaurants, bars, cafes, etc. It is 1/2 km to the city's colorful mercado and some of the oldest colonial buildings. We would strongly recommend to anyone. The included breakfast was cooked to order and served very nicely. .

I stayed in a studio for 3 nights - from 8/12/12 to 11/12/12 and was given a double bed, ok with me since I was a sole traveller. This may be an issue if you were a couple though.
The room had more than enough space for my needs containing a separate lounge, kitchen (complete with fridge, cooker and implements), cupboard areas, vanity areas, toilet and shower.
There was also a balcony since I was on the second floor - there are no lifts.
The hotel is a charming little hacienda style property with a lovely garden.

Toilet amenities were excellent by Lavarino Cosso from Italy and includes soap, shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, dental & shaving kits, shower cap, shoe shine, sewing kit etc..
Two small bottles of water was also provided gratis.

I ate dinner at the hotel restaurant. Since I was early I ended up being the only person there and thus was under the watchfull gaze of two waiters the whole time which was a bit uncomfortable but the meal was prompt and tasty and the price reasonable for restaurants of this type.
Breakfast is American style and thus is a little limited. The annoying thing is that you have to request a breakfast voucher every day - it would have made more sence for them to give you all relevant vouchers on check-in for the applicable dates instead of this constant to and fro.

Laundry is only available from Mon to Sat and takes around 2 days to do so only consider utilising this service if you are staying for more than 2 nights.

Ask the hotel for a map and ask them to show you where the hotel is on the map. the streets here are quite confusing. San Cristobal is a lovely little town of only approx. 100,000 inhabitants so it's worth a wander to explore, although you do need to take the usual precautions.
I've been told to stick to the main roads and not to wander off into the little laneways being a lone female traveller, which makes sense and is good advice anywhere really.

I am at this hotel just a few days before the festival on 12/12 of the Virgin of Guadaloupe and thus fireworks have been let off at all hours of the day and night.
There is also a rooster quite nearby who crows quite early. Both I thought were charming but may not suit some who are light sleepers. the sound proofing seems to be ok since I did not hear anything from my neighbours.

It gets very cold here at night during the winter months - Dec to Feb, averaging 2-5 degrees celsius.
I had on two jumpers and a jacket plus the heater on full blast the whole night and that was just enough to combat the cold.

TV reception was good and the hotel also provided free wireless internet accessible in your own room. I understand that they could also lend you a cable if you need wired access.

A clock radio was provided in the room with a charging dock for an I-Phone & I-Pod, although for previous phones to the i-phone 5 only.

The shower pressure was nice and strong and there was ample space to hang up your clothes (on the provided hangers) to dry if you wash it in the basin that is.

Staff are excellent and very helpful - although not all can speak English. They will however call someone in the vicinity immediately to help who can.

In summary the hotel is a lovely place to stay. My only gripe is it's distance from downtown, approx. 5-6 blocks.

Room Tip: The higher rooms has lovely views of the gardens.

It's not always easy to sit down after having stayed at a place and write a review about the hotel. So this review is a great, detailed and honest contribution to other travelers about the experience at Villas Casa Morada and we would like to thank you for your time. Not being located right on the main square in the case of San Cristobal is not a big problem as the town is small and practically every location can be reached easily on foot.

We arrived to Villas Casa Morada late at night, after 14 hours of traveling, only to find that I made the wrong reservation and we couldn't get in until the following night. The staff were amazing! This was my mistake, but they still called and arranged for us to stay in another hotel, and even carried my suitcase on the walk to the other hotel! Then they allowed us to eat and drink in their restaurant that night even though I think it was already closed. Needless to say, their friendliness, helpfulness, and kindness was incredible. They were also super helpful and kind to our friend who stayed in another apartment. We stayed there for a week and I can honestly say it was one of my favorite places to stay ever. And I've stayed in a lot of places. We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment, and it was beautifully decorated and super comfortable. In fact, the whole place is beautiful. If I ever find myself back in San Cristobal, I know where I'll be staying.

Room Tip: We stayed in #7. During the day, there was a dog who barked fairly constantly, but you could only h...

Accommodating staff, excellent restaurant, fantastic room and beautiful decorating all combine to make this a place worth visiting. I stayed in room #6 which was nearly an apartment. With a kitchen, dining room, living room and two upstairs bedrooms there was plenty of room for two people to spread out comfortably.

Room Tip: Room 6 was very roomy but was right next to a family home where dogs and chickens were abundant and...

We came to San Cristobal to study Spanish at the local schools. Our stay at Casa Morada was a pleasantly wonderful surprise. The Villa was clean and comfortable, the staff was attentive and eager, the food was great. We loved our little home after a busy day of learning, shopping, and adventuring. No complaints.

Room Tip: Take some earplugs if you think the fireworks that are set off at 6:30 a.m. to celebrate someone...

Stayed for a weekend at this hotel. The rooms are nice and service was very good, very nice people running the hotel. The walk to downtown is about 10 minutes up and down hills. I find it very hard to say that this hotel is #1 in San Cristobal. There are many other hotels right downtown that I would have preferred to stay in rather than walking down dark streets at the end of a night. The worst part about this hotel is their neighbor, right next door. They have a caged dog that is not let out all day or night and all the dog does is bark NON STOP! They also have a roster that starts going at about 5am every day.
