Very clean, comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, good breakfest, stable Wifi - and a good price for all of the above. This.is not a party hostel! So if you are looking for a place to get smashed at night, look for another place. Its idle for couples and travelers that want a good location and value in a quiet place.

my girlfriend and i stayed here twice using as a home base as we were traveling to and from the Oaxaca coast. san critobal is a lovely city and our time there was made better by the wonderfully accommodating people at le gite del sol. always happy to answer and question, book a tour or even a shuttle (at no extra cost, i'm not sure how he does it but i checked the prices and what he says is true!)

the hot water in the showers on the cold mornings of san cristobal followed by a delicious breakfast that was included in the price.

well done Denis, we will for sure be back and will continue to spread the good word!

Room Tip: we really liked the room that faced the street, yes it was noise from the road but it had a balcony...

Very nice address. We recommend it. They propose interesting excursions. We did Palenque and some waterfalls but the time for enjoying Palenque was definitely too short. It might be great to talk about this with the host.

This hostel is ok for a one night stay. The owner is very friendly and speaks Spanish, French and English. You can also book the bus or a tour for fair prices, but they keep insisting on taking their tour. Breakfast was very good. You can choose between toast, cornflakes, fruit or eggs with coffee or tea. We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom. We stayed in the building a little bit further in the street. The dorms are in the main building, the private rooms in a building 20m further. The rooms are very cold and basic. There was nothing personal at all. At night there was also a lot of noise from the street. The bathroom wasn’t clean and there was a strange atmosphere.

The owner was very nice when we were leaving and gave us a breakfast to go as we left before breakfast time. however we were charged 80 pesos to use the washing machine despite no indication whatsoever that we were not able to use it, and our clothes were wet for days afterwards, having to rewash them, which is really inconvenient when travelling. Room had a comfy bed and a lot cooler and easier to sleep in but felt a bit like a cage. Good location. however it was like a English campsite as you would be woken up in the early hours by people using the toilet! Also the taps were outside and we had to brush our teeth in a thunder storm. The internet was slow and you cant use it after 9pm, also very inconvenient if you arrive late on and need to book travel for the next day, felt too strict. However the owner was nice throughout our stay.

I stayed here for four nights with my girlfriend and we were very disappointed from start to finish. Upon arrival the owner demanded that we pay up front and then promptly directed us to the more basic facility across the street. The room that we were given was cold, barren, and without any curtains! We asked to see more rooms but they were all the same, very drafty and all with hideoous, black steel doors; it felt like being in a greenhouse. Hot water was erratic and bathrooms flooded regularly and were tiny. We asked the owner if we could switch to the ther facility across the street, to which he of course said no, even when there were clearly rooms available. We foolishly booked a tour with the hostel but were unable to go as we got terrible food poisoning from a local restaurant 'Arez'. We spoke with the owner to see whether or not we could rearrange, he unsurprisingly said no. To make matters worse, he openly admitted that many of his clients receieve food poisoning from the aforementioned restaurant, however he did not think it right to perhaps notify any of customers of this. The place was awful, had it been any more basic we would have been sleeping outside. Rooms were cold and the owner even colder. Many better options available.

I spent one night here and was really impressed. Great value for money, clean room and a good breakfast thrown in. It is also an easy walk into town and the very genial owner speaks a plethora of languages and is happy to help with any onward travel. I booked a shuttle to Xela through him and got most of the way there before the driver of the shuttle confessed he thought he was taking me somewhere else which meant finishing my journey on a local bus. No harm done though as this is the joy of travelling Central America! I stayed in a private room which was spacious and comfortable. The rooftop is a great place to chill out and read a book!
