We were assured that our goods would be "safe" in the reception safe. Unfortuantely we were robbed of valuables by the staff. Stay away. The food and service is equally horrible. Loud music that lasted 24 hours. Front reception staff very rude. This hotel was a huge disappointment.

The key for us was that we were a wedding party group that negotiated the price (via our fluent in Spanish friend) in advance. It was $65 including breakfast, not the $150 that one reviewer says they were offered. My room had a fireplace and was roomy, clean and pleasant. The view of the spotlit church at night was extraordinary, one of the very best ever, and I've traveled a lot.

The pool would be very nice for kids on a hot day and the hotel restaurant has a great buffet on weekend days when the hotel is busy. A woman makes traditional handmade tortillas that are great, when the buffet is operating. They made dishes to order on the day (Monday) it was slow, and they were excellent. I was offered anything I wanted that could be produced with standard Mexican ingredients. If you don't want your meal spicy (picante) you need to specify. I do, and both meals I had were really tasty.

Volkswagens take you through the crazy hilly streets from the hotel to your destination. They patrol the town and charged a standard fare of 20 pesos. It's like a ride on an out of control cable car in San Francisco, but I thought it was a highlight of the trip. Go to the Church of the Virgin Guadalupe if you want a double thrill, the view and the ride, and walk down.

Speaking some Spanish is a major plus for this hotel.

I've been told that this is a reasonably nice hotel. Unfortunately, I will likely never know. I was part of tour group of 27 people. We had written confirmation of our reservations and when we arrived, were told that our rooms had been let out with no warning, recourse or other explanation. If this hotel owner would do that to a tour group of 27 people, I wonder what little consideration he would have to doing it to an individual traveller???? There are a number of as good or better hotels in Taxco that might be a safer bet.

Arriving at the hotel it looked old. But it is more old fashion, it takes you back in time. You'll feel at home straight away. The rooms are clean and big. With huge windows that provide you with an amazing view over the city. You can see the mountain where the city is build on. The pool is nice. Only not enough seats, though. Underneath the lobby there is a small bar with a great hippie look. If you are not into that, it might scare you off. Staff is very nice.
During the evening you will even have a more amazing view over the city. All the city lights are lit: best view I've ever seen from a hotel!!
Breakfast is not that good at all. We were leaving very early in the morning. There was only some dry bread with some fruit. Not good at all. Tea and coffee arrived when we almost finished our breakfast. Maybe breakfast will be better when you arrive later, I don't know..

Room Tip: Get a room on the side of the city. On the highest floor. You'll have an amazing view over the c...

Don't be fooled by 82-year-old Benito Flores, who will greet you at the visitors center as you enter town and show his government ID. He is getting a commission off of this hotel. His interest is not in getting you the best hotel for the best price!

My friend, fluent in Spanish and a 20-year resident of Mexico, tried to get the hotel to give us the price that Benito had promised we'd get. We were told by the desk staff that there were no rooms for three people with three beds ... later, the porter told us there were.

When confronted with this discrepancy in information, the hotel staff told us that the cleaning lady had gone home and couldn't clean that one room. Too bad we'd just seen the cleaning lady minutes ago. Plus, what hotel that charges $150 or more a night in a developing country wouldn't quickly call its cleaning lady back for a quick clean up of a "five-star" hotel room? When my friend went to argue that we knew they had a room for three people with three beds and that we should get it for the same price they were going to charge us for a room with just two beds since that is what the government tourism guide had told us, we could overhear Senor Flores telling the hotel staff that "the lady knows what we're doing."

We did not stay in the hotel and found the Casa de la Laurel (sp?) hotel in downtown Taxco very pleasant, cleaner and less expensive. No, it didn't have a pool or a breakfast, but judging from reviews of the pool and the breakfast at Posada de la Mision on this site, we didn't miss anything. The rooms we were shown at Posada were dated and had a bad smell. Benito Flores tried to tell us it was a five star hotel. Hardly.

Don't fall for this trap.

Room Tip: Don't fall for this tourist trap. Go into the town on your own and find a hotel room that Trip A...

We stayed here with our two children, aged 5 and 8, and had a lovely two day vacation. The pool is very nice, and the room we stayed in, number 236, was fantastic. Excellent views from everywhere; the sight of Taxco at night was utterly enchanting. The food at the main restaurant was surprisingly good; great steaks, and excellent salads. Breakfast was a delight; real, fresh made tacos cooked before your eyes.

The hotel has a bit of a "faded elegance" feel, but that's fine. The property is large and interesting, with plenty of places for kids to explore and enjoy.

There is a tunnel between the main lobby and the dining/pool area that the kids really liked; there are flashing lights that are really "cool," as my daughter and son say.

This is not a cheap hotel - the suite was on sale, and thus we could afford it. But there is lots of value here, and well worth it. We moved here from the Loma Linda hotel across the way, and were much, much happier.

Room Tip: The suites are superb; try 236. It's not in the main hotel, but a few steps up the road. Absolut...

We stayed in this hotel for one night, but we would have liked to stay here a little bit longer. The hotel was an old convent, nowadays it is a original hotel with large rooms. From the balcony there is the most beautiful view on the nice town of Taxco with its white houses, the many white VW taxi´s, the silver shops. We enjoyed our stay in this lovely little town and in this beautiful hotel. I can only recommend this hotel.
