Counter Culture Party Hostel

I make a reservation with hostelworld but I noted later there is an age limit of 35 years, but if you want to sleep in a single or double room you have to ask permission (they try to rent this rooms, more expensive, to old people because the guests of this place prefer to spend money in drinks). So I decide to cancel the reservation and I sent 2 emails to the adress indicated 15 and 2 days before, without any answer. They kindly charge me the 1 night. If you want to cancel a reservation it's better you use a more safe system (in hostelworld myworld service).
This is not a place for old people; if you want to find a cheaper and quieter place, there are different hostales who offer single rooms for 200 pesos or little more.

Really warm welcome and helpfull staff! Everyday we had a great party. They know the best clubs and bars in town.

Safety lockers and everywhere cameras.

Clean: Everyday a woman comes to make sure everything is clean.

It is a old building so do not expect the best showers!

Everyday a cheap and healthy meal together.

It is like you be right away accepted in a new family. So it is temping to stay longer and some do!!

I had a wonderful time at this hostel. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. As soon as I walked through the door I felt like I was part of the family.
The atmosphere is great and if you like to party you have to check this place out!
The beds were comfy and clean, the kitchen well stocked and the roof terrace was unbelievable!
This is definitely the place to be!!

Irvin Here from utah usa, the overall experience was great, its a fun place the vibe is great the owner really cares for his hosts as does the staff, the building is not flashy but well taken care off free breakfast until 2pm highly recommended the staff show you the and on times drove us to the clubs and bars with plenty of selection if thats your thing, at times we just hung out with other travelers and it just felt like we were all family for the time we stayed.

As far as the city goes there's plenty to do, please do remember that this is a real Mexican city not a Disneyland tourist mock of one.The locals where friendly and we felt safe walking outside at night food is great too and inexpesive. mostly everything is within walking distance

highly recommend check this hostel out and enjoy the city i feel more people need to find out about this gem.

Counter Culture was a very pleasant surprise. The shot of tequila when I arrived was a good start and it only got better. The staff are very friendly, more like guests than staff and determined that guests should have a good time. Out of all my hostel experiences this one really stood out, so much that I stayed an extra 2 nights. The communal areas are excellent, the breakfast timings are well thought out, the evening meal is reasonably priced and something not enough hostels do to make guests feel part of a community. Veracruz is somewhere that deserves more visitors and Counter Culture is an excellent place to stay to explore this surprising city.

This place is an easy walk from the bus station (10-15mins) - literally just straight, turn once and then straight again. It's about 2 blocks from the beach, ATMs and shopping plaza and about a 10-15 minute walk to central where the museums are.
The Aussie bloke who runs this (Adam) is welcoming and very laid back - and there's even a free Tequila shot on arrival. He's an ex-backpacker himself so knows what the priorities are when looking into where to stay so the beds are very comfortable, cleaning is done regularly, the kitchen is available for guest's use and the hostel itself is very sociable with activities for anyway wanting something to do inside the hostel. The staff are also good at arranging pub crawls and clubbing.
Hammocks are available in the courtyard and there is a nice private, communal roof terrace if you don't fancy topless sunbathing on the beach!! (which at weekends can get a little crowded.
If you don't want to eat out or cook for yourself, there are regular evening meals available in the hostel which are tasty and very reasonably priced.
Staff are very amiable and happy to help you navigate the city as well as your onward journey - one of the staff actually gave me a free lift to the bus terminal when I left.
Top marks for this place - well done Adam.

Room Tip: I think all the dorms are either en suite or have a bathroom right next door so there's not a lo...

Like an Orwell novel (1984), this quaint little art deco joint in increasingly-happening Veracruz captures our minds and our hearts. The staff are a bunch of taco-eating tequila-swilling lovekids with time and charm for all. The dinners are delicious, almost as delicious as the atmosphere over a barbie in the sunny afternoon courtyard- a must for all who swing by. The dorms are simple and practical, likewise the kitchen. A buzzy place.
