This museum is very small and it's located at a small fort in the town of Bacalar. You can see everything there in about 30 minutes or less.

“Mayan museum in a Spanish fort”
Reviewed 8 October 2007

A small museum located in about 10 small rooms under the Spanish era fort. The fort itself is worth some of your time especially if you have not seen a fort with cannons etc. before. The real attraction here though is the amazing Mayan artifacts excavated from the sacred burial island of Jaina and the jade death masks from Calakmul. There are also several stella and many arrow heads and pottery items. The signs are only in Spanish so some basic language skills are a good idea but not vital to enjoy the items preserved here. The museum is approx. a half hour drive south of town and requires around 1 hour or more of your time.
