An easy bus ride up from the Hotel Zone, Locanda Paolo is located in a converted house near Superama, as are several other very good restaurants (see my recent reviews of Du Mexique and La Dolce Vita). They have a nice menu with many interesting choices and the wine list is small but varied. Wine by the glass is available but you have to ask. The food we ordered was well-prepared and nicely presented. The range of portion sizes, however, was unexpected. My wife's yellowfin tuna with an olive tampinade was large enough that we took a lot back with us and both shared it for dinner the next night too. It was fresh and I recommend it without reservation. On the other hand, my US$38 "Surf and Turf" consisted of a small piece of veal and three shrimp. Despite the fact that it was prepared well and had nice flavors, it was gone in a few mouthfuls and most certainly was not worth the cost. If you get as far as dessert, however, the dark chocolate gelato was spectacular and the cappuccino was nicely done. So, try the fresh fish, avoid the Surf and Turf, and leave room for dessert and you won't be disappointed.
