“Relaxing Vacation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2013

Stayed here for 1 week. Hotel rooms are dated but clean. service was excellant. Wound up in room facing lagoon with no balcony - most rooms don't have one but wound up spending most of the day at the beach. Gym was good, had good selection of equipment. Massages by the spa staff were excellant - had choice of beach side, which we did, or in the spa or hutch up above. Buffet was good - good seclection of food for breakfast or dinner. Loved the beach side service for drinks and food. Waiters were attentive - suggested drink options when asked. Liked being at the far end of the strip - easy bus ride to the entertainment district and shopping. wished there was a coffee bar with pastries for a quick grab. AC worked well but was noisy.

Room Tip: might want to request ocean view

Dear guest,

Thank you for sharing your comments; staying with us and for visiting our Heavenly Spa. We are more than happy knowing that you have a memorable stay. Due to the location of the Hotel, we certainly have rooms with awesome Sunset views overlooking the Lagoon, but we also have rooms with incredible views of the Turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Next time you visit us, I recommend you to book one of our Deluxe Rooms with Balcony / Terrace or even better choose one at our Royal Beach Club Tower; with exclusive privileges such as private pool, separate check-in area and a private lounge serving American Breakfast and 2-hour evening cocktail plus all RBC rooms feature spacious private balcony rooms.

We have stayed at this hotel once a year now for about 6 - 7 years. We never stay long, but that is not a reflection on the hotel, just our preference. Location. This is on the end of the strip, so its never very crowded... In June /July, there are always turtle nests, and I have been fortunate to see one egg laying... This hotel has water immediately on both sides of the property, (may be one of a few on the strip) as a result, the lagoon side is always empty has a more tropical feel and still very nice. As always, I encourage upgrading to Royal Club... it includes a nice breakfast, evening appetizers and open bar...No brainer!!! The Royal club also has a "private" pool and the beach area is secluded from the rest of the hotel... If you want crowds and pool bars etc, go to the main hotel beach area...But at least you have a choice. The rooms are 5 star luxury that meets and beats any other hotel in its class, the building from the outside looks older, because it is older! But don't let that fool you from what you will have when you walk through the doors. It is luxury!!! The downside is that the restaurants, clubs, shopping and entertainment are a $5 - $7 taxi ride away. It depends on your priorities, but for what one saves staying on this side of the beach and what you get, its still worth it!
Also, they have a car rental here, so if you decide to do your own tours, its really easy... Lets see $30 plus gas to Chichenitza and a $30 private guide on site? or $200 for 2 on a cattle car bus with the obligatory factory tour? Hmmmm...

Room Tip: Royal Club rooms. The extra is well worth it. Frankly, the lagoon views are just as charming as the...

Dear guest,

Thank you for coming back every year to The Westin Resort & Spa Cancun. And thank you also for sharing your experience with us. It is certainly a memorable experience to watch the Turtles egg laying. We count more than 15,000 eggs during the season. We look forward to your next stay. and why not, share with us the release of the baby turtles and help them to go back to the ocean.

We`ve stayed in the hotel for 5 days in all-inclusive arrangement. Hotel is the closest to the airport and you`ll need only 10 minutes to get to it; another 30 minutes by city bus if you`d like to go to Cancun to get some fun. Proximity to the airport makes this hotel a hub for layover passengers, plane crews and weekend guests. From this perspective the hotel itself is a bit boring for a people looking for fun of any kind and from another could be an ideal place to chill in silence. Hotel itself and its rooms are ok and in range of 3+* hotel: some restoration has to be done, especially in the older "resort elite" part. We were able to check out the "newer" part of the hotel and the "older" and the difference is obvious by having a first look into rooms. Not so bad but not so perfectly either. Stuff is pleasant enough to make your trip enjoyable. Pools and the beach - the whole scenery is just amazing. Food is just average: nothing so fancy. For a longer stay it could be a bit boring but if your just passing I guess you will survive. It was not really a high season and a hotel, restaurants and the pools were more or less empty.

A big negative one:
I was traveling with a 6-month old baby eating only formula every 4 hours. I end up heating up the water for the formula in my bathroom, washing bottles with my child's shampoo and almost begging stuff in the kitchen to put the bottles to the microwave to sterilized them. Yeah, we have contacted hotel before our arrival and we get insurance that all this could be done in the hotel by room service stuff with additional charge. No problem. That "0" for room service never answered and reception staff told us that the hotel doesn't have a single microwave except industrial ovens). Amazing. (Peek was when on our third day we asked (both in very fluent Spanish and English) to heat a bit of water (which was already inside) in a baby-bottle and a guy from the bar just put the hot tap water in the bottle and handle it over). Funny, right?

Room Tip: Rooms in the Royal elite are a bit older but have a sunrise view over the sea (we were in the 2519)

Yes the view is great IF you get a balcony room facing the beach. NOT ALL ROOMS HAVE A OCEAN VIEW OR BALCONY'S. This is a dated hotel and about 3-4 miles from "Zona Hotelera" where all the action happens like Señor Frogs or Coco Bongos. If you like walking to the action it's not happening here. Unless you call action "The Beach".

Great views...our room leaked, so did the whole hotel. We were on the 6th floor and when it rained all of the hall ways were wet. Reception said that they had this issue...whatever that meant.

I was there on a conference so my wife and I didn't pay. We would have been very disappointed had we paid for this hotel. It's worth paying an additional 20-50 bucks a night to go closer to the action. We actually moved to Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach for the wknd. It was awesome and it doesn't compare to this Westin. There are two Westin's and I think some of the reviewers below were confused. The other is Lagunamar Westin and indeed it is closer to the action and might be better than this one.

Again, dated, leaks, food was okay and service was okay. Nice beach away from everything.

Room Tip: Our floor was the 6th and only the 6th seem to have a nice Balcony

Dear Guest,
We truly regret that you were inconvenienced during your stay at the resort, due to the strong storms we had for a few days. Unfortunately the amounts of water in such a short period cause some unexpected leaks. Our Chief Engineer and his team are already repairing them. Please return on another occasion when I am confident our staff will make your stay outstanding!

I stayed here from Oct.18-21st with two of my friends. We came to Celebrate my 30th birthday. We had come to party, drink and just have a great time. The front of the hotel is very plain. Inside is very pretty and clean. I was really impress with the views and decor. The entire staff was extremely nice and accommodating. During our stay a member of concierge found out it was my birthday. They delivered a cheesecake and sparkling wine to the room. I thought that was very nice and welcoming of them. Now if your looking for a party fun zone resort this is not it. However, if you want a very calm, quite, peaceful and relaxation hotel your at the right place. It worked for us because the buses drove you to the clubs. After partying the night away we came back to a quite place to sleep. The buses are only one dollar per person. The taxi drivers charge too much money only to drop you off down the street. Now for my dislikes for starters it should be a must that wash cloths are in the rooms. It was a headache requesting something to shower with every night. Secondly, you need a jacuzzi outside and not just in the spa area. There are about six mini pools outside and not one was a jacuzzi. That was very disappointing. Lastly, the Long hill you have to go up and down everytime leaving the hotel. There probably is not anything you could do about the hill but the other two are simple fixes. All in all it was a good stay for an affordable price.

Thank you for staying with us to celebrate such an important event! and we are so glad that you enjoyed this beautiful area with your friends. As you mentioned this hotel is to relax, enjoy and renovate. Party centers are only 15 minutes away by bus at a very convenient price.
We also take this opportunity to apologize if our staff did not let you know that some of the triangle pools by the beach have the air power bottom to have water with pressure in the pool and with an amazing ocean front view where you can enjoy with your favorite drink.
Thank you again for all your comments and suggestions.

After 2 exhausting days of nothing but touring we decided to have a day by the beach. We were awake early so we were the first ones to the pool/beach area. The Bar area wasn't open yet but we approached an employee and asked at what time we could start buying drinks. He said he would be right back and returned with 2 margaritas for us. A couple of other people showed up and I could see them eyeing our drinks with jealousy!

The food&beverage service was amazing. So friendly and keen for conversation but they also knew when to leave us alone. The rooms were nice and clean. Pricing was great.

It isn't close to any of the shopping/restaurants etc but we weren't in Mexico to go shopping so this was fine.
