We have come here three times with our children. They are now 17 and 15, and we again are delighted with every level of service at the Royal Sands. The resort is extremely clean, the food is decent at the Char Bar but too expensive in the La Vernanda. Decent at the Hacienda Se Sal. Everything you can want is a quick bus ride to ANY WHERE you want to go. Thomas Moore makes it easy to book any trip you want. The view is to die for. You will not be disappointed. You owe this to your family!!! Enjoy!

Room Tip: Any room is a blessing. Phase 2 is quieter than Phase 1.

The property matched our expectation for fun, comfort and conveinance. The pools, activities, kid fun along with the room layout created an experiance that will bring me, my family and the 5 other families we traveled with back next year. We all agreed the Royal Sands deserves another visit. We normally don't return to the same place twice. On site market was perfect and not too overpriced for its convienance. Great place....I recommend!

Room Tip: Please view resort map, choose room/floor by your needs/wants. The property is massive so if little...

We are owners at The Royal Haciendas near Playa del Carmen. This year it was decided that we would try a different resort for our annual vacation and we were not disappointed. This is a great place to vacation and we would recommend either in a heart-beat. The staff are kind, friendly, very courteous and go out of their way to help with any request. A special mention to Arturo, Gabriel, Miguel and our concierge Fernada! Your excellent service was appreciated. The pools, 1 of which has TWO poolside bars, are very clean with lots of lounge chairs and ample shade when needed. There are lighted tennis courts. The restaurant has really good food (would like to see a little more authentic Mexican fare) There is take-out with a good selection (really good pizza!) available and they will deliver to your room at no extra charge. There is also a sports bar with almost nightly events such as karaoke, Monday Nite Football. There is an on-site grocery store and the prices are quite reasonable. The Activity Centre provides daily programs for all ages and this would be a great place for a family vacation. If ours weren't out of the nest they would have been there! There is daily volleyball on the beach which is AWESOME! It is quite level and there are lots of lounge chairs and palapa sun screens. We will be back!

Room Tip: Phase 2 is quieter. "A" side of ground floor suites have a deck with direct pool access.

I have had the good fortune to be able to travel to the Cancun area several times in the past 25 years. Of all the places I have stayed, the Sands is by far my favorite. A sparkling clean, well maintained property with consistently top notch customer service. Although you are always treated like a guest, you always feel like you are @ home. All of the extra amenities the resort has to offer are just icing on the cake compared to that! (See other reviewer's posts regarding resort details and amenities.)

In my opinion, the most amazing thing about the resort is the people who work there. This is the one variable that makes this resort rise above all the others. I feel the genuine outpouring of genuine Mexican hospitality each time i stay here. Each and every employee seems to have been hand picked by management for the high quality of service they deliver. And the delivery of that service with graciousness. And also a smile. Thank you to each and every one of you for your hard work and dedication.

My most generous compliments go out to the pool aerobics staff who provided a stimulting and fun work out every week day during the three weeks of our stay. "Outrageous" Pepe, "Outgoing" Viktor and "Sexylicious" Michele: y'all made it the "happiest hour" ever!!! Muchismas gracias over and over again! Pepe and Viktor could you please email me? Jimmy Solis has my address.

A special mention also to Jimmy Solis, Octovio Pinson, Jorge Cadera, Isela (laundry room), Rene (pool guy) and Daniel (who keeps the pool area clean) your hard work and kind, compassionate personalities will not soon be forgotten.

I have been hearing rumors that the Royal Resorts plan to become all-inclusive. I truly hope this is not the case. Could management resort please respond as to whether or not this is true. And what is the reasoning behind this change? Does this pertain to owners as well as guests?

If you plan to visit Cancun and have never been there before, do a bit of planning before your trip to make the most of all there is to do in this area. Skip Coco Bongo, Senor Froggs and all the chain restaurants you can dine @ back home. Venture away from the hotel zone to take the time to see how truly unique and beautiful Mexico is. Some suggestions for things to do:

1. Visit one or more of the many Mayan ruins in the area: Coba and Tulum are our favorites. Avoid Chitchen Itza if you don't like crowds.

2. Visit Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve.

3. Take a snorkeling tour with Edventures: it includes a trip to Dos Ojos, Yal ku, and Akumal Bay. There is also a stop @ La Buena Vida for lunch that is not included in the price. (see the review i wrote about this tour a couple of years ago).

4).Take the ferry over to Isla Mujeres. Rent a golf cart and spend a few hours exploring the island's beaches, restaurants, shops and other attractions.

5.) Visit Cozumel. Add a few days on before or after your Cancun visit to enjoy this pretty island. To get the most of your stay on the island make sure to rent a car.Our favorites to do on the island are Punta Sur (the snorkeling is fabulous), the small but lovely museum, Especias Restaurant (hola Adrian!!!) and Del Sur Argentine Empanadas (hola Rene!) . Ventanas al Mar (only hotel on the East side of the island) and Cantamar Condos were places we enjoyed staying. (owners contact info availble by request.)

6.) Visit Isla Hobox for a few days as an add on before of after your Cancun stay. Being here is like taking a trip back in time. No cars, mega resorts, shopping malls, or chain restaurants to be found anywhere on the island. Small palapa style lodgings, mom and pop restaurants, very friendly residents and lots of beautiful stars at night.

7.) Bring home some of that fabulous Chiapas coffee.

8.) If you love birding, Isla Contoy is not to be missed. It can only be visited as part of a guided tour which also includes a nice lunch and time to swim. Bring mosquito repellant! Only about 200 people per day are allowed to visit this island. Or make the trip to Rio Lagartos. It's claim to fame is that it has the largest colony of nesting flamingos in the northern hemisphere. (name of a very good birding guide from the village available by request.) Another guide we hired that took us birding around the sian kaan area I would also highly recommend. His expertise and individualized attention was most appreciated (contact info available by request.)

Room Tip: All of the villas have gorgeous views of the pool area and ocean. Although people generally tend to...

Great place, I just spent 10 days there with my family. Very comfortable rooms, clean, great place for kids, very knowlesgable staff. Good food, not excellent, but good. Great that they have transportation between the hotels. The security has their hands full as parents let their kids run around lap pool walls and swim in lap pool, when it clearly says that kids should not do this.

Beware that they do not accept American Express. I would have spend $2k extra there if they did. Kind of ridiculous that I can pay for restaurant bills at Sisa and Captain Jack - affiliated restaurants but they dont take amex. Now I understand the reluctance as to charge amex its about a half a point higher charge than visa and mc, but crazy as they are losing alot of business.

In my situation, where I use Amex as primary CC and only use MC and Visa as debit cards, they had to debit my checking acct several times, during the stay. In the end they had to pay me in pesos when bill got cleared.

I ended up spending alot more day trips near Tulum, Xelha, Coba, etc. In future - I would probably do a few days in cancun, but spend more time in Playa del Carmen or Tulum resorts, because I had to drive 80-100 kilometers south 4-5 times during the 10 days there - and resorts that take amex.

It is hard to imagine being any place where you can have better service and an enjoyable stay. You name it and The Sands provides the best. Clean, safe, accomodating staff, food, beverage, location, friendly, activities, etc. are the best.
Recommend to everyone.

Room Tip: The view from building E is excellent!

Our first stay at the Royal Sands lived up to the praise we had heard from others. It's a beautiful property located on stellar blue-green Caribbean Sea coast and a top quality, almost pure white beach. From the first day everything was top shelf and the highest of quality. Restaraunts both on property and off were great. The staff was great in every interaction...from the servers on the beach to the daily maid service in the villas. If you want a vacation that stimulates all of your senses, and treats you like royalty, this is the location for you.
