This was my first return trip to "NYX" since it the name change. My wife and I had a wonderful time at this beach side resort. The staff was very friendly, the beach, pool and grounds were well cared for, and the rooms were comfortable. The breakfast buffet is complete, the food was well prepared, and the service prompt. The staff facilitates excursions, and their recommendations are spot on. The facility's activities are diverse- you can get rest or participate. The location allows travel on the buses or easy walks. I look forward to returning.

The difference between a good vacation experience and a bad one does not solely rest on the room in which you sleep. The schizophrenia of the reviews seem more reflective of expectations unfulfilled rather than reality. My family (5 yr old+parent +grandparents) is well-traveled in Mexico as well as the U.S. Our expectations based on price, reviews and photos were that hotel accommodations would be adequate - neither first class nor worst class. THE RESULTS ARE IN:
First, most of the STAFF has been friendly and helpful and appear to care about the customers. TINA GARCIA of the Club Vacacional has gone above and beyond to work with us, not only concerning our hotel stay but also with a couple of non-hotel related difficulties. The LOCATION is fine, with a lovely beach behind the hotel, some Mayan ruins on the beach about 3 hotels down, a small commercial center with some arts & crafts stores in addition to the pharmacy, convenience store, noted restaurants & clubs (Outback, Sr. Frogs) and a nice little restaurant about 1/2 a block up the street. HOTEL AREAS such as the lobby and restaurants are clean, bright and quite presentable. The hot tub & pools are likewise clean: temperatures in the hot tub & main infinity pool are tepid while the pool outside the lobby and the baby pool are cooler and refreshing. There is a small workout room. FOOD ranges from very good to ok - nothing has been "gag me with a spoon" bad. ACCOMODATIONS are clean, roomy and adequate. Expect neither luxury nor fine detail - at least not in the timeshare rooms. Although you cannot sit on the balcony and see the beach while sitting, you CAN easily see the ocean - so relaxing! SUGGESTIONS for the hotel to improve are the following: 1) inform guests of the facilities available, food hours and food policies, pool & towel service, beach facilities that are free (don't use the beds unless you are prepared to pay - surprise! 2) label the buffet foods clearly. 3) clearly outline all-inclusive parameters.4)beds....ah, the beds...well the sofabeds are the usual lumpy things and the regular beds are unforgivingly hard 5) rooms that have microwaves and sinks should also have some necessities such as paper towels, dish soap, a couple of plates/bowls and some eating utensils.6) again, clearly delineate between the temporary complimentary and the standard; i.e., the bottle of water and coffee available 7) and oh, set up a book exchange in the towel center or in the lobby, where guests can exchange or leave the paperbacks they have read. These are minor quibbles, as best; however, the hotel would definitely benefit by printing up these simple instructions. So come on down!

Unfriendly staff with average rooms. Not very clean, the air conditioner leaked onto the lounge and floor. The lounge and linen was damp and the overall service was not very good. Breakfast was average and lobby staff were not very accommodating when I was looking for further accommodation. Do not recommend.

I stayed here as a timeshare swap. It was a lovely hotel with wonderful staff. My room overlooked the beach. There was no lift so porters took my bag to the fourth floor.The aircon unit was very noisy. Wifi was available in the lobby only. I chose the buffet breakfast, It was so good.! The travel centre booked me a day tour of Chichen Itza. I would stay here again. Outside were government buses that, for US $1, took you many different paces. I loved the shopping.
and the many free ranging iguanas.

Room Tip: Ground floor as no lifts. Beach view.

My husband and I just returned from a week stay at the NYX from May 31-Jun 7, 2014. We are members of Avalon/NYX. We stayed in a Junior Suite which had a beautiful ocean front view balcony. Our suite had the normal accommodations of a bathroom, as well as the kitchenette, etc. Our studio was 2 levels and this was the first time we ever stayed in one like this. It was ok except you have about 5 steps to get down to the lower level/balcony. Also, the dining table and sofa sleeper is located on the lower level, which we never used because of the location. This setup was ok since it was the first time we ever stayed in one like this, but we will be sure to reserve one level in the future since I have knee problems. The lobby has been renovated and has a large bar. The chairs and décor is done in pink and white. There is also free wi-fi in the lobby although I was able to get it on our balcony at times.
Tina Garcia (Members Rep) was there to greet us upon our arrival and check us in. She is excellent as well as all the staff members. Members now get a gold wrist band and a discount on food and drinks. We purchased the breakfast buffet for 5 days and it was definitely worth it. The buffet had both breakfast and lunch items. And I loved the fresh fruit so much that I had it all 5 days. We always had plenty of items to choose from. Some days I would do all breakfast then some all lunch depending on the time we would arrive. The buffet is open until 11:00 a.m.
The pool and beach area was beautiful. The palm trees are definitely a beautiful touch! And there is a setup for a message on the beach, which I didn't get a chance to experience
The kids club room is now a workout room, although I never used it. We got plenty of exercise climbing all the steps and of course swimming.
There is now a beach bar/restaurant where the message area was. It is really nice and opens out for an ocean view. We ordered from the beach bar/lunch menu (hamburgers w/fries) to go. The burgers were huge but they put some kind of ham/or ? on top of the hamburger meat. I just took it off before I ate it. Also had pickles, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. It was big enough that we could have shared one.
We ordered room service the first night there - pepperoni pizza. It was ok and enough for 2 people.
We had a great time (although it rained 80% of the time). Everyone was nice including the security guard who helped me get an umbrella on the beach. I really miss the beautiful ocean and everyone and can't wait to go back. We are pleased with the improvements, and happy that NYX honored our membership. The Customer Service was great and that is very important to us too (and will keep us coming back)!

Room Tip: Request a lower one level suite if you have issues climbing stairs.

NYX hotel. had already do a lot of renovation and up grade to appearance since I read from many other reviews last year. We stayed in May 2014 in their Time share exchange 1bed room suite. Tower 4. Both tower 4 and 5 had elevator , small but working. Inside the suite there are 2 air conditioners , one in the living room and one in the bed room. both works fine ,quiet due to Split body type A/C , and cold also with digital thermostat . Both bath room sink and faucet and table top and toilet was newly renovated or changed, no leak and well cleaned. 2 LCD type TV 42 inches one in bedroom and one in living room. Kingsize bed comfortable , even not top of the line type. No fungus seen on ceiling or wall. The curtains and sofa is a little old and with some damage. Balcony is good with ocean view. The Lobby and improved with fully Air conditioned, 24 hours reception,Reception is nice to us. Don't know why some review rude ? Internet only free in the Lobby area. Add US$20 per day for private wifi in your room. Electronic safe in your room free to use.
The disadvantage are as follow, base on our observation and experience.
No cooking stove or utensil at all. Only microwave , small fridge , coffee maker and a small sink.
The down side of NYX hotel is the front entrance . You need to walk many stairs up to the Lobby, if you have 1-2 pc of luggage , you must need the bell boy with a trolley to push up the ramp. If rainy days more difficulty.
Only the Main building and Tower 4 ,5. had elevators. other towers had to walk up to 4 stories high.
All phone calls even local, need to pay extra US$1.00 per minute .
2 small swimming pools and 3 Jacuzzi tub not very hot just warm. free beach towels per day. quiet most of the time during our stay in the evening. Day time we usually go out for other activities.
Very good location for shopping , a Bank inside the Mall just across the street and easy taking a bus.
Very economical hotel to stay next to the beach , always remember If you compare to a 5 Star hotel you have to pay a lot more. Good for those who do not demand any High end stuff.

Room Tip: tower 4 and 5 for Timeshare owners are better taken care of. but may be more expensive than a regula...

I was delighted to be told upon arrival at NYX that I had been given a free upgrade from a non-beach facing, balconyless room, to one on the third floor overlooking the sea. The room was airy and spacious, with a big, clean, comfortable bed, and the view was fantastic. However, this veneer of serenity was soon pierced by various discoveries: mould stains on the net curtains; what appeared to be nibbled-through holes in the black-out curtains; buttons missing from the telephone, revealing its inner circuitry; and a safe that did not lock. The whole place looked like it was long overdue for a refurb, inside and out. The rooms could also have done with some rudimentary soundproofing; it's impossible to distinguish between a knock on your door and your neighbour's, and woe betide you if Beach Aqua (the next hotel along) are putting on one of their evening musical extravaganzas. As for the staff, they were friendly and helpful enough, but not hugely inspiring. And the food (I had a Tex Mex burrito) was better than expected, considering the grease-stained surroundings. In summary, the place is passable but I imagine you could do better for the money - and I say that having had a free upgrade!

Room Tip: Beach Aqua (noisy) is to the south of NYX. You might get a better night's sleep in a room on the...
