Thought i would leave a detailed review of the Grand Oasis Cancun.
When arriving at the hotel it was very nice with bellboys taking your bags for you. Checking in was a breeze. They do hand you off to another employee. This gentleman did invite us to come and sign up for a free breakfast and 500 pesos for listening to the timeshare spiel. Just tell him you will let him know later....they never bothered us again. After that we went to our room. We did have another couple who joined us on the vacation so i will also explain their room which was slightly different.
AMAZING for the price. Beautiful tile floors. Large enough bathroom with a deep soaking tub (but who has time for that on vaca). The bed was comfortable enough. Extra pillows/blankets in the closet. Great AC. AMAZING view ! Balcony in each room throughout the grand oasis and it looked like actually all the structures throughout the huge property had them. The problem with the balcony is they have very pretty flowers growing on them so you can not sit out there and enjoy the view because of the crazy amount of dragonflies! Mini fridge stocked in room along with safe, alarm clock with ipod doc and flat screen tv. We didn't even turn the TV on until day 2 and we couldn't get any channels to work so just gave up.
Our friends room was more of the Mexico theme with bright colors and was not updated. had a small tube tv but otherwise the same thing. Also great view.
The hotel itself was very pretty. Very clean. Through the pictures i though the interior of the pyramid looked old and not very pretty but it was beautiful to see. Shows every night at around 1900. Gift shop on main floor is very limited with extra medical supplies if needed.
The grounds of the hotel were also beautiful and very quiet. That is until we ventured to the north side of the resort where it is definitely party central. We did visit that side a couple of times but in the end always came back to the nice quiet more sophisticated side. The pools were pretty clean with zero depth all over which i thought would have been great for my kids although I don't think i would bring my kids to this particular resort. Many bars throughout the resort. our favorite was the lobby bar and the vip lounge. While on the beach we most frequently used the hamacas snack bar. Which also does burgers and hotdogs.
Market Place Buffet- best bet for breakfast. We did eat dinner there one night. Mediocre.
Tatish- never ate there but didn't hear good things about it. We did look there for ice cream once and it looked the same as the market place just on the other side of the resort.
Dos Lunas- Nice and quiet spot for breakfast. Pasta is pretty good. Pizza was ok.
ViP lounge- finger foods. Did eat lunch there the last day and the steak was delish!
Cocoa- never ate there. Very limited seafood menu.
Hacienda Sarpe- Mexican food. There are only 3 choices. We all got fajitas. They were pretty good but more like tacos than fajitas.
Deli SPorts Bar- STAY AWAY. Ordered late one night before they closed. They forgot our order for about an hour. ordered milk shakes, waiter asked if we liked milk. Thats because they were just milk. HORRIBLE FOOD. Chicken tenders were black. Chicken sandwich was as cold as it just came out of the fridge. Toasted bread and all.
Careyes ( The fancy rest)- We made reservations as all the reviews said to do....got there and there was no one there but they couldn't make our reservation until 8pm. We were turned away due to dress code. The men had shorts on. 2 men before us walked out in sweats and were allowed to eat there because they had pants on. it was ridiculous.
Everyone did get sick at one point during the trip. Not sure if it was the food or maybe the ice in the mixed drinks.
