We stayed here using our parents time share, but upgrade to all inclusive which is a must!! It was so worth it to not have to worry about having money with you all the time. There was so much food and any kind of drink you can think of. The rooms were very nice. All marble floors and showers, mini kitchen, which you really don't need with all inclusive. The all inclusive included all meals, and drinks, including mixed drinks. The staff was wonderful. We especially loved Juan Diego Echegaray, who we knew as only "Diego". He always had a friendly smile, and kept the drinks coming. All of the staff speak pretty good English as well as some other languages. They were helpful in arranging activities and transportation. The public bus is cheap and pretty easy to take downtown, or wherever else you want to explore. Some helpful times, bring lots of $1's and $5's as a lot of the staff rely on tips and they are happy with just 1 or 2 American dollars. You really only need pesos for the bus. We found the taxi even took usd, but you will pay more taking the taxi than the bus. Sometimes it was worth it for the convenience. The hotel can exchange money for you, but they do not have change for usd so make sure you bring small bills. There is also an ATM at the hotel but again, they do not give you small bills. This hotel is on the lagoon, so you have to go to Sunset Royal, their sister resort, to go the the beach. This was no problem using the "water taxi" provided by the resort. You can also take their bus they run between hotels, but it only comes every hour and is usually packed. The boat comes every 10- 20 minutes. We got a fun boat ride out of it everyday we went. We talked to others who stayed at some of the other sister resorts and we have concluded the this resort has the best rooms! Sunset Royal is bigger and more commercialized. It was not as laid back as ours. We feel Sunset Marina also has the better pool with small water slide and swim up bar. You can eat and use the facilities at any of the resorts with the all inclusive. If you have young children, they will get them pizza, chicken and fries, or hamburgers if they do not like what is on the buffet. A lobster dinner is included with the all inclusive which was AMAZING!!! Their Italian restaurant is excellent but you have to make reservations. Definitely do the dolphin swim! Totally worth it! The resort can arrange it for you. The only negative I can think of is that I was not really impressed with the spa manicure or massage. You do get a discount on the massage services but we would not do that again. Not worth it really. Oh, and our mattress was really hard, just not used to that. For souvenir shopping, check out Market 28, (which is exactly like going to Chinatown in NYC). If you do not want to deal with the haggling, go to Plaza la Isla or Plaza Las Americas. We stayed a week and I would come back again. Oh the weather was in the 90's and a bit humid. It was sunny every day, only rained very briefly. This hotel is only 20 minutes from the airport. There is only WiFi in the lobby but we were able to pick it up in our room since it was close enough to the lobby.

Room Tip: If you get room near the lobby, you can pick up the WiFi in your room. There are rooms by the pool...

Well, this is a hard place for me to review, because it there were so many great things, but also things that need work.

The Good: The people make this hotel. The hotel staff is incredible. Edwin in the restaurant. Vania, one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life taking care of the kids so well, and then being so nice day in and day out. The cleaning staff always doing such a good job. William, my concierge, just an incredible person who helped us so many times throughout our trip. I could go on and on, the people were just incredible!

The Bad: The timeshare presentations, which we agreed to because it was our first time (our mistake I know) and wanted to actually learn about the property. We agreed to 90 minutes, and it went about 4 hours. We tried continuously to get out, but we couldn't because they were really trying to "hard sell" us. We kept trying to go, but to no avail. Finally, we insisted we were not going to change our mind.......and it finally ended. Also, we ran into a bit of a problem with our room and they didn't want to move us. We came to our room and it was infested with bugs. I don't blame them as that happens in a place like Cancun. What was disappointing is that they didn't want to originally change our room until I really got upset. It should not have come to that.

Other stuff: The rooms are pretty average. This is not 5 star. The rooms are decent, but can use a bit of an upgrade. Some of the decor is old and worn. The food in the buffet is really average. The ala carte restaurant though is great! The service is impeccable. The Lobster dinner was also very good.
The pool is nice, but typical of Cancun the water is very hot. Beautiful grounds, right on the Marina. It is not ocean side, you are on the Marina......so don't expect waves and so forth. Love the fact you can go to their sister property, which was more our speed and a little bit more upbeat. The Marina is a little more mellow, but still nice.

All in all, a great stay and we met some great people. Lastly, the entertainment staff is awesome! Really made our stay. They put on a great show on Friday night and it was fun to get to know all of them. They really go out of their way to entertain you.

The hotel is amazing and I have to say that it was the best hotel I stayed in only because the food is extremely delicious, the staff are so nice, friendly and polite which is why I made friends with quite a lot of them especially Vania the hard working lady who takes really good care of children during activities. The hotel produces good many good things like the show happening at night, the performers are brilliant out there and what really made my day is by going to the pool and relax while the sun is active and also the hermosa female singer singing every night whatever her name is sang beautifully like a Mexican star, well I always thought she was gonna any if my favourite rihanna songs but it doesn't matter its hard to sing it even I can't sing it haha. Special thanks to Aldrin and the other restaurant and dinner crew for making our stay enjoyable by fully supporting the best boxer in the world Manny pacquiao which is a surprise haha, special thanks to the room cleaners for making our room tidy and clean and special thanks for the concierge workers helping us with the travelling and a big thank you for one of the workers Alba for finding our family an amazing tourist attraction for to visit and the one she told us to visit was the wet n wild. The hotel also has got a really fast WiFi, lots of activities, 2 pools, massive rooms with a big TV and room service which is why the hotel is awesomem I really love Cancun its like heaven the weather's fantastic the beaches are beautiful and colour as a blue sky, tourist attractions are far much better than the ones I've been too, shopping streets are great, hooters was the best place to visit, everything around Cancun is tropical of paradise. It was the best vacation we ever had and we might plan to visit their again and stay in the hotel or and if we are it will be the best moment of my life

The staff at the Sunset Lagoon was amazing. Nadia saved the day. She hooked us up with a great all inclusive Package that we fully enjoyed. The resort was beautiful and we visited the other 3 resorts that are also available for our enjoyment. The only negative I can honestly say was the occasional timeshare and vendors trying to push you into a purchase.

We became "owners" of a time share here about 20 years ago and to their credit, the place is fairly well kept with rooms that are acceptable for what you pay. We just came back from it last week and the experience was good.

Even though we bought the all inclusive package, we like to give a little tip to recognize good service ($5 or $10 dollars per day) and judging the waiters reaction to it, I'm sure we are some of the few that do this. Now, you may ask, why should I do it? Well, this little extra will buy you an unbelievable level of attention. They will remember your name and beverage preferences to the point of guessing when you want your next drink. Service in Mexico is normally well above average... well, this will make it beyond your dreams.

The place is small and more of a relaxing environment. Go to the Pizza place, where Ileana and Sevideo will not only give you incredible fresh, wood oven made Pizzas, but and amazing service. The view is calm and prone for a playing cards or just chatting.

Sergio and Christian are great servers at the restaurant and Pool bar and at night Amadeo will fix you great drinks at the bar.

This is not the huge thousand-room resort you normally find in Cancun and there is its magic.

The bad/ugly:
1. Some rooms at the far end are noisy because of its closeness to the streets
2. The company insists on continue selling their time shares so, some days you see the restaurant swarming with sales people doing the typical tricks...
