Once the painting and patching up is complete this place should achieve 5 star ratings?
As long as you're not in one of the noisy or less desirable rooms?
The three main unit buildings are all odd so your experience living in particular rooms can vary greatly!
We changed rooms after a four hour wait, Natalia was brilliant with help for this and many other situations during our week.
Food was plentiful with a wide choice, served by generally very good staff. The clientele are mostly friendly Americans, Canadians, Germans and some Russians many of whom seem to abuse the reasonable alcohol limits served at any one time? Hence warning signs on the bars typed in Russian only!
We did meet a couple of Brits in the hotel and a couple more nearby, it made an educational change to be with other nationalities and discover that we all have the same sense of humours!

Was there for 10days end of Jan beginning of feb..The hotel is old and need renovation, new chairs for the beach but the hotel is very clean...the food is good and the staff the best I have seen in a hotel...They work hard, have a beautiful smile of their face and remember you. My favorite was Josua working at the bar in the lobby. I have travelled a lot in Europe, Asia, cruises and southern destinations and that hotel has the most fantastic staff..In that department it would be a 5*, the food is good and love the a la carte restaurant. The italian restaurant is also excellent...NO COMPLAIN on that department either. The renovation is a must..the hotel need paint, the concrete balcony looks like it's going to fall off. The price is good and if you like walking on the beach...perfect place for that...In overhaul I really liked it and would go back.

Room Tip: We had a room with balcony on the east side of hotel..one side was the view of lagoon and other side...

Older hotel that needs some fixing up but food and drinks were good. Beach needs new chairs the ones there are all sagging and threw my back out because of them. You need to wait for guy to come around every morning to dig a hole for umbrella (and tip him) or no shade. Chose the hotel for the location and cheap deal.

Rooms were small and a small TV but very clean and we didn't go there to watch TV. Staff was very helpful. Food was always good, food area was always clean and food kept fresh. a different food theme every night. Hotel was always kept clean. we would go back in a heart beat.

Room Tip: ask for a beach view right off the start

We visited end of jan into feb, on arrival it was quite late on, at reception booking in was easy, no fuss, we had every thing explained to us re meal times, different eateries & where they were, then back at reception we were offered a choice of rooms, the room was big & clean with a separate bedroom, huge shower, which was powerful and hot, aircon was perfect, room cleaned every day, towels chained daily sheets every other day, have to admit there was a musty smell in the hall way outside the room but you couldn't smell it once in the room. Food was great, cooked through & always plenty & and lots of different varieties, the pool bar self service had burgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets & chips, plus salads, three bars, pool bar, sport bar & regular bar inside, all were
generous with the measurements, & you weren't limited to the amount you could order at the bar. All the staff were friendly & helpful, there was a bus stop just outside the hotel. The beach was lovely & clean, what sea weed came ashore, was gone the next day as there were out there clearing it up,
Very enjoyable relaxing place

My husband and I enjoyed this hotel. The food was good, the drinks were good, the beach was awesome and the rooms were spacious and clean. The only thing that could have been better that impacted us enjoying our trip was the lack of beach chairs and pool chairs, there wasn't enough of them to accommodate all the hotel guests, also the pool and whirlpool was not warm. It would have been nice for the whirlpool to be hot or at least warm and the pool to be at least at 80 degrees for comfort. The bed wasn't very comfortable and either were the pillows but you get use to it. This hotel is only a 3.5 star hotel and is comparable to other 3- 3.5 star hotels. My husband and I have been to other higher star hotels which were much better but for the price we paid we thought it was a great hotel and we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

Room Tip: We were in 1499, it had a balcony and the view of the ocean and all the beach and hotels for miles...

Staff: The staff at this hotel were very friendly for the most part! Especially Armando in the buffet and his coworkers. They pulled out our chairs for us every time we came in and were always in a great mood. The drinks at the bar were fantastic compared to some other resorts that I have stayed at in the past.

Rooms: The beds were more comfortable than most places and the pillows were not like pancakes. The TV has a couple English channels. We did not have a balcony and most rooms didn't. We had hot water every single day.

Currency: I would recommend using American money because it is easier to figure out how much things are rather than use pesos and a lot of things are priced in American. Make sure you bring plenty of ones so that you can tip the staff. There is a definitely a shortage of American change. That's what they tell you anyways. The front desk will send you to the gift shop and they will say that they don't have it...but if you buy something all of the change magically appears so make sure you change your money before you get to Mexico.

Beach: The beach is breathtaking. If you want a beach chair make sure that you get up by 7:00 am because everyone will have already reserved their chairs with towels and shoes. A lot of the blue chairs are broken and worn out so the earlier you are there you will have a chance of getting one of the white ones. The water was extremely rough every day and the waves were huge but fun to play in. The people selling stuff on the beach ask you if you want their stuff a lot but if you just say no they'll go away and not pester you. If you walk down the beach to the pier there is a little "jungle area" and if you climb on the rocks you will see little fish, crabs, and iguanas. Definitely wear shoes if you're going to that.

Pool: The pool deck is small and fills up fast so again if you want a chair make sure to be there early. There is a pool bar and the seats aren't always full which is amazing!

Food: The buffet has a different theme every night. There is not too much to choose from but we always found something to eat. They have really good hours and stay open quite long. The snack bar by the pool has lots of seating. The burgers are less than edible but the chicken nuggets, fries, and nachos are good. They have an after hours snack bar in the Little Italy but I don't think many people knew about it. The pizza there was not the greatest.

A La Carte: The Mediterranean a la carte was fantastic. I had the beef tenderloin with potato and veg. In the menu it said that it was for two people but they had no problem giving it to me in one portion. We found out towards the end of the week that you don't have to book Little Italy you can just show up.

Entertainment: Personally I felt that the entertainment level was lacking. They had a singer and karaoke night. For the most part we just left the resort. There did not seem to be any nightly shows happening on the stage. If you're looking for a good show go to COCO BONGOS downtown. It is $70 a person when you get there. (The tour operators may try to charge you more.) That includes all alcohol and they do shows every fifteen minutes. People drop from the ceiling and they impersonate people such as Elvis and Beetle Juice. Confetti falls from the ceiling every few minutes as well as balloons.

Transportation: The public buses ran every 5 minutes and would take you straight downtown for $1 American. It is about a 15 minute bus ride. There is no point in taking a taxi because one way is about $15 dollars.

Overall I think this hotel was good for what we paid for it. I don't know if I would stay here again but I don't like to stay at the same place twice anyways. You get what you pay for.
