“Great service!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013

The Omni Cancun was my first experience in an all inclusive resort. I stayed for 3 days with a group from work for a sales conference. The hotel is conveniently located a short ride from the Cancun Airport, the ocean front location is amazing, the rooms are well appointed and very clean, and the staff is just wonderful. Everyone I met had a smile and a great attitude which made you feel welcome and well taken care of. I only tried a couple of restaurants at the resort. I had excellent breakfasts, very good sushi, I ordered off the menu at the beach restaurant to get some camarones al ajo (sautéed shrimp with garlic) which I really enjoyed, and I had meal at a dinner buffet which I did not care much for, as for my taste it was bland. I did not make it to the Italian restaurant which needed reservations way ahead of time. I found the value very good, but if you are a foodie you will have to choose where you eat carefully. If I needed to do an all inclusive again, say with a large family party, I would return to the Omni for the facilities, location, and lovely staff.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean front with a balcony. So worth it!

Everyone was so nice and helpful! Hotel is right up to the ocean. There were different pools. I never felt crowded. Even the other guests staying there were super friendly. The staff is awesome they make sure you are taken care of.

i stayed at the omni cancun in oct 2013, the room was good the food was awesome except some of the meals were luke warm and the hotcakes in the morning were freezing. the variety of food was very good, they have a differant theme every night, asian, italian and so on. The staff at the omni were fantastic, i booked a tour to chichen itza through them and it was worth every cent.Dont go to the dolfin park its all a massive ripp off to take photos of you and the dolfins ( couldnt look at the dofins i had to keep looking at the papparazi ) then they try to charge you a huge price for the photos.Hotel entertainment was average some days and awesome on others.the buses will take you into town for almost nothing and they are very safe and fast. dont go to market 28 its a ripp off instead go to the liverpool shopping mall just up the road and do your holiday trinket shopping for half the price you would pay at market 28.I didnt like the fact that i had to wear a crappy bracelet to prove i was all inclusive customer for the entire duration of my stay ( make it a clip on clip off at least).there is a construction going on just outside the reception area so if you like to sleep then dont stay here at all or bring the highest rated ear muffs and wear them all day......

Room Tip: stay away from the elevators

We stayed at the OMNI in mid Sept 2013 and experienced the rainy season throughout the whole of our 2 weeks. Fortunately the excellent bus service to Cancun every few seconds (it seemed) took us to the Mall the Markets and the local beaches / sights. So although it rained a lot we found plenty to do plus it still remained at around 28 -31 degrees.
The staff at the OMNI were excellent and always went the extra mile to help you experience the best from your holiday. Unfortunately there was a couple of issues where they closed the Main Pool for 2 weeks to undergo repairs, and this included the Mexican Grill which is attached to this pool, plus the Asian Restaurant closed for the whole period we were there because I think they said it was 'out of season! All in all not impressed, to find 2 restaurants and the main pool closed throughout your stay is a bit much and whilst I can see pools need to be repaired, had they told us this prior to our arrival we would not have chosen this hotel.
Anyway we simply got on with it and made the best of it BUT some did complain immediately on arrival and were moved to another hotel. So we will remember next time to do the same. Morale is 'DONT PUT UP WITH POOR SERVICE FROM VIRGIN HOILDAYS THEIR REPS OR HOTELS in CANCUN. COMPLAIN ASAP and get moved.
OK rant over.. all in all Cancun is a great place to rest or play, enjoy sightseeing or the beach / cocktails /spirits and overall the service is excellent far beyond what you might expect. Cleanliness is excellent everywhere.
Now the hotel itself - Don't expect 4 * its not, it is a good 3 *, there are many better places to stay than the OMNI. It is a tired looking place, an uncomfortably freezing cold bar in the evenings, thanks to the AC, and not a lot of facilities during the wet days, if you want somewhere to sit and relax, where it is not freezing cold, where it is quiet/peaceful, with a decent cup of coffee say after a late night or during the afternoon maybe, then forget it, go to Starbucks downtown or stay in your room.
The room itself was excellent very clean and the fridge stocked almost daily BUT with only the usual which the Hotel chose to provide. Which is fine if you drink that stuff but they would not replace all the fridge contents with drinks we liked (i.e. Brandy & Coke) despite the fact they served it free in the bars.
WI FI - Absolute rubbish kept dropping almost every day. They may have an excuse that it was being updated or whatever but whatever they say (and they said it every day) the fact remained in dropped almost every day and was useless.
We found the food was excellent plenty of it and varied BUT it was always only warm, and I like hot food to be hot -not cool.
Would we go back to the OMNI NO we would not - which is a shame as this has nothing to do with the staff, who were fantastic everyone of them throughout -well done to them.

Room Tip: Highest floors and away from elevators. Ocean view is best but can be noisy if weather bad.

We had a wonderful time at the Omni. The place was clean and well kept. The staff bent over backwards to make sue you had what you needed. Silvia in the lobby bar was always making sure we had our drinks ahd remember what we liked. Carlos in The La Paloma breakfast buffet was great. He was very funny. For lunch we enjoyed Pina Colada. Jose waited on us there. He always brought us something special. Or told us about something that was not on the menu. The food was very good. It always helps to tip some.

My family just returned from Cancun and Omni was a great hotel for our needs. We're used to classier hotels and weren't dissapointed. If you're looking for the same kind of luxury you get in a 5 star hotel in Dubai, you will most certainly be dissapointed. The staff is very friendly and even though the hotel is "cash free zone" a carefully timed tip to the right person might just give you that service that much quicker. For example extra bed to your room. Foodwise you have a lot to choose from and the quality of the food isn't great, but still the best we've seen in all-inclusive hotels. None of our family got sick so the hygine isn't too bad. Hotel has 2 a la carte restaurans and depending on the lenght of your stay you get 1-3 free dinners there. I suggest you use all of them in restaurant Da Vinci which is a very fine place compared to the other a la carte place La Diva. We used 2 out of 3 dinners in Da Vinci and saw 2 different sides of the restaurant. Our first stay the restaurant was almost empty and the waiter was clearly experienced and had a sense on pride in giving service you only see in the finest restaurants. You should take your time and enjoy the dinner. Da Vinci has a formal dresscode and it was sad to see most of the guests ignoring it and showing up in shorts and sandals even though you are reminded of the dresscode when you make your reservation. The second dinner was ruined by the waiter which was the exact opposite of the one who served our first dinner there. Also the place was almost full and the mood was ruined by loud chattering and yelling by other guests which was inappropriate for such a elegant place. Still it's nice to enjoy "free" dinner which would cost way over 100 USD$ per person in a similar restaurant.
The beach is nice with very fine, soft sand and I didn't encounter a single jellyfish in the entire holiday, which is a nuisance in most other beaches around the world. To all of you fellow snorklers/divers, I must dissapoint you: no coral or big fishes anywhere to be seen. Also a great tip for all you baby turtle loving people: this time of year Omni (and other hotels as well) is releasing hatched baby turtles in the security of darknes (around 9PM) and guests can hold the turtles before releasing them at the same time. This was one of the greatest experiences in our entire vacation, though it isn't really advertised much. Ask the lifeguards for time/place/ammount of turtles being released. Usualy everyone gets at least 1 to release.
The bartenders can do a great variety of drinks, but if you don't know too many drinks by name, the tables in the lobby bar have good menus where you can find your favourite drink.
The animation team is always doing something from bingo to volleyball, I can recomend joining their activities. They also go to different nightclubs every night, so all you partyanimals, contact them for the latest info.
The rooms are kind of small and their double beds are more like large single beds, you can get a extra bed free of charge. I wouldn't recomend this hotel for families traveling with small children, since you can see the effects of free alcohol even on low-season. The bathroom ain't nothing fancy but works just fine though I was initialy surprised that they keep the toilet and the sink in different rooms, which isn't actually a bad idea timewise.

Other tips for traveling to Cancun:
-Dive/Snorkle the cenotes (there are many to choose from)
-If you like culture, visit Chichen Itza
-Get a rental car! (easy, cheap and enjoy the freedom) but be sure to VERY carefully inspect the car for any scratches etc. since the rent companies WILL try to scew with you. Video/photo the entire outside of the veichle to avoid being scammed. Also, when returning the car, reserve atleast 15 minutes for the paperwork and post-inspection so you don't miss your flight.
-The best shopping places in the hotel zone are La Isla and Cuculcan Plaza
-Water jets are great fun but don't pay more than 50USD$/30 min for them

PS. This review was made in low-season, hope it helps!

Room Tip: -Try getting a room away from the elevators if you're a light sleeper, they are quite noisy. -Y...

If you want to sit by the pool or party in the hot tub, or lounge on the beach, and enjoy unlimited alcohol, THIS is the place for you. The food is just OK; exceptions being the reservations-required DaVinci Restaurant and the Sushi Bar. The best eating is in the afternoon as several of the restaurants are only open from 12-5. Supposedly there are activities all day long (yoga, zumba, karaoke, swim gym, soccer, volleyball), but I never saw or heard them. The spa is under renovation so the temporary location doesn't quite match the price point of the services; however, we did enjoy an AMAZING hot stone massage. Drinks are free-flowing, and bottled water is available at every bar to help keep you hydrated. I don't think this is a great place for kids as there doesn't seem to be that much ~to do~. Also, at night, there is very little activity for adults besides sitting at the bar - this hotel could use a dance venue! Overall, nice for a short stay that involves mostly pool- and beach- sitting (as long as the weather cooperates). The front desk staff is kind of dour - not a lot of smiling or thank you. Everyone speaks English, but they are friendlier if you know some Spanish.
