“Excellent Stay”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

This was the perfect place for us to stay overnight before spending two weeks on Isla Mujeres. The staff friendly, our room was clean, great water pressure, and the outside deck on the roof was perfect to start our morning with our coffee. We will be back. Thank you to all the staff. Adios for now.

We stayed here because it seemed to have decent reviews, and we didn't want somewhere too close to the hotel zone... Massive fail on our part..

The hotel was conveniently located across the road from a ferry terminal which is good if you want to go across to isla mujeres.. But that is the only thing it is convenient for!! (Bear in mind there is more than one ferry terminal on cancun as well)... There is one average restaurant within walking distance from the hotel but that was it... If you wanted something different you had to get a bus or taxi into town..

The hotel itself was ok... Clean and decent sized... The only thing I had to complain about there would be the water pressure in the shower.. Non existent! And to watch out in a downpour.. It rained quite heavily while we were there and our room was prone to flooding!

If your looking for somewhere quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of cancun this is the place for you, but if you want to be able to do things without catching busses or taxi's, I would stay a little closer to the hotel zone.

Stayed 2 nights before heading to our 7 day timeshare. Literally directly opposite of the ferry to Isla Mujeres, which is 6 USD/pp round trip. 15 minute ferry ride to a beautiful island. The hotel is clean, quiet, and super nice staff. Breakfast was simple, delicious, and cooked/served by the same individual. The area is safe, and outside the crazy loud resort area of Cancun. If you are a simple person, who is interested in a great price for phenomenal service, stay here. I will be returning next year.

Room Tip: Make sure to head to the roof to enjoy the view and ocean breeze!

Great little place, which is phenomenally good value for money. I stayed here in Jan 2014 while queueing up travel plans to head south. The staff are incredibly friendly, you can't beat the rate of $35/night, and it's extremely clean. I used the reservation service on the hotel's website, expecting no-one to even know i was there. Lo and behold, everything was ready when i arrived, even though it was apparently overbooked. The staff were really helpful, approachable, and understanding when i said i wanted to change rooms, and relaxed about when i paid. The fact they speak good English really helps too.

The rooms are basic (phone, en-suite, AC, cable etc), but way over what you're paying for. The lobby, restaurant, and facilities are simple, but attractively kept and very safe - like the outside of the building, which looks like Vegas for the area. Only annoyances were the consistency of the water temperature (you get about 3mins of hot water), and the wireless - although it's available all over the grounds, the connection is often non-existent unless you connect in the front of the building.

The only drawback is the location - as stunning as it is. It's quite out of town, although there is a convenience store opposite (Oxxo) surrounded by roadworks. That means if you want to get anywhere (like a restaurant etc), you have to take a taxi (local rate to Playa Del Toros is 30 pesos, but for tourists they ask 60, Hotel Zone is 130) . The city drivers don't quite know it well enough by name, so you have to say "Puerto Juarez" (port/terminal) as it's literally opposite the port gate where the boats load in. The port is known as "Capitan Hook" (written in giant letters).

Overall, i had a brilliant stay and would recommend Hotel Del Sol to almost anyone - backpackers will feel like it's a rich country estate. I have a feeling when i head to Belize, i'm going to be very nostalgic by comparison.

Room Tip: Wireless reception is good in the lobby, worse the further away you get from it. Rooms are also not...

we chose this hotel mainly for 2 reasons, the location and the price. We were trying to find a nice place to fit our budget and also be close to the ferry port to reach the isla mujares.

When we arrived there was quite a bit of rain unfortunately and due to the open fronted walkway to reach our room there was quite a lot of water collecting. it wasnt too much of a problem, but made the floor quite slippy (not ideal when carrying large bags) but it wasnt the end of the world!

If you are looking for a place to stay that is close to the beach or party zone this isnt really the place for you. To reach town you would have to call a taxi or take one of the local busses to reach the central bus station (the road was being resurfaced while we were there so we had to walk to the end of the road to find the bus stop). the bus ticket will cost you i think 7 pesos and takes about 15-20 minutes depending on the chaotic traffic. just opposite the hotel there is an Oxxo (small convinience supermarket) that offers all the essentials you need such as bottled water and forgotten sun cream (the microwave burritos for 12 pesos are also a welcome snack!) Next to the supermarket there is also a fairlyy nice restaurant (the only one in the area) but this closes at 7pm, so be sure to eat early. The main reason for the hotel though is the ferry port to go to the isla mujares, this is directly opposite the hotel door meaning you can take the first ferry to the island. very convineint. walking home later when it gets dark i would not really recommmended as the area around doesnt look quite so friendly. we made it once and didnt feel comfortable doing it a second time.

The room itself was quite standard, double bed, TV, airconditioner and batthroom that was quite well equipped. it was clean and nicely perpared. The wifi in the room was ok but was at the wifi range limit making connection sometimes difficult. the bed was quite firm, but as we learnt this seems to be quite normal in Mexico hotels. the quality of sleep was more or less quite good, but the road was being resurfaced outside and the workmen liked to start early with their heavy machinary, but I think it was otherwise fairly quiet.

Breakfast was quite good compared some other hotels we stayed in, coffee was freely available, bowl of cereal, carton of fruit juice and some toast was the standard.

The staff were quite frioendly but some struggle with english (although being able to speak quite well).

I would definately reccomend it to people who want to travel to cancun mainly to go to isla mujares. great for the money, but not for partying/beach.

The hotel was for a relatively small price for the Cancun. Probably the best value hotel in whole Cancun. Very nice, clean room, AC, every day new towels, good basic breakfast, very nice staff. The great choice for us: quiet and peaceful. And when we wanted to go to the center of Cancun enough to take the bus R-1 from Purto Juarez to Zona Hotelera. So, I don't understand why overpay. Great hotel, but not for those who want to party.

It's not a bad hotel but it's definitely not a good hotel either. It was the cheapest on expedia when we ended up changing our travel dates so we booked with hesitation. Considering we paid only $35 for a room, we can't complain bunch. It's in a quiet area but away from the city center and all the fun stuff. It's still a short and cheap cab ride into the city center (about 40-80 pesos depending on your bargaining skills). One good thing about the hotel is that it's right across the street from the ferry station for Isla Mujeres which is best place to visit in Cancun. Also the oxxo shop across the street helps a lot if you need drinks or a quick bite to eat.
