This was our very first experience at an all-inclusive. We were unsure of what to expect- despite reading millions of reviews of various resorts on tripadvisor! I will get straight to the point--

Pros:
* Good food, good drinks, friendly staff for the most part (breakfast buffet was the best part of the buffet options by far). Eat outside! Fabulous!
* LOVED having the beach we had-- and walking up and down the coast made us feel more and more satisfied (not many beaches as nice as ours)
* Room was clean, resort was clean
* View was priceless from our 7th floor room
* Fun with sand volleyball and water volleyball!

Cons:
* Making reservations for dinner if you didn't want the buffet

We booked through Funjet and worked with Lomaas (?sp) to book 1 day trip to Isla Mujeres. It was gorgeous and well worth the $65 per person. We would love returning here as we were completely satisfied and relaxed!

Stayed for two weeks on November 2013 with a friend. We stayed based on a recommendation from a couple who we work with and we weren't disappointed.
Quite simply pretty much everything was perfect. Met lots of people from towns close to us and also made new friends from all over the world.
The staff are great, they work very hard and every night someone from the entertainment team waits in the lobby to go into Cancun.
Señor frogs and the Thomson bar crawls are a must. Our favourite activity was parasailing on the beach. Food was nice but didn't like the Chinese restaurant.
Can't wait to go back!

We have just come back from a 10 night stay at this hotel with Thomson Holidays. On first impressions the hotel looked really nice, the check-in was slick and the open meeting area looked impressive and very clean.

The rooms were very nice, clean with 2 queen beds and had an impressive view overlooking the main pool and out to the Caribbean Sea, though it did have a small balcony where you would struggle to pass another person sitting down on it. After reading the reviews on here i and already emailed the hotel asking for a room on the upper floors, our request was noted as we were on the top (9th Floor).

The open corridors which were used to access the rooms backed on to the main road and as a result whilst in your room you could hear the road traffic every minute of the day, with early morning and late afternoons being the nosiest! As the corridors had marble floors you could also hear everyone walking along them, which is not a pleasant experiance when you are woken up by drunken guests returning from the bars at 3.00 am! The corridors also echoed and on two occasions we were woken up in the early hours to the sound of guests being sick in them! On most nights we were woken by guests talking loudly in the corridor, waking us up at 2.00, 3.00 and 4.00am this resulted in security being called.

As the hotel lifts were inadequate for the size of the hotel and also temperamental, we chose to walk down the stairs in the morning rather than wait for the lifts, this is fine if you are prepared to walk around the vomit that on at least 2 occasions had been left on the stairs as a result of someones early morning alcohol excess, though this was quickly cleaned up by the hotel staff. We also witnessed an elderly gentleman on our first trip to the pool being sick in the flower beds on the way!

All the staff at the hotel from the cleaners to the bar staff to the animation team worked tiredly and need to be given credit as they were always trying to do their best.

The food in the main buffet hall was ok with a good selection but as previously noted in other reviews, the best meal was breakfast and most of the food during the lunch and evening service was just warm, bordering on the cold and after 10 days it did start to get repetitive.

The speciality restaurants were no better at keeping the food warm, and you had to pre- book to dine in these resteraunts as well . The Asian restaurant was essentially a buffet, the selection was ok but again the food was only just warm.

The Mexican restaraunt had a buffet for starters and for the main course a very limited selection which was served to you at your table by the waiter.

The Steakhouse was probably the best, again the food wasn't very warm and the choice was limited for the main course, your starters were just delivered to your table, you were not able to choose what you wanted.

If you didn't get down to reserve a sun bed by 8.00 am you were struggling to get one by the pool, which is strange as the towel hut didn't open to 8.00am, most people were getting their towels the day before when they left the pool or beach.

Overall the holiday could have been better, the hotel is suited and is attended by the younger clientele and did not turn out to be our dream holiday that were were expecting.

I think based on mine and other peoples comments Thomson's should be downgrading this hotels ratings as, it is certainly not a 5 star or even a 4 star hotel, in my opinion.

Would i go again, No, would i recommend to other people, no. Sorry!

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher than the 4th floor and bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper to drown out...

Just got back yesterday from a week at the Caribe. Traveled with 2 other couples thru Apple and everything went as planned. We were originally put in rooms on the 3rd floor - but moved to the 7th floor the second day per our request.
The resort is really well groomed and super clean. The workers were fabulous and very helpful whenever we needed assistance. We did not use the pools at all as we prefer the beach - which we were at every day! The food was as we expected, good variety - we never left any meal hungry! The entertainers worked very hard but the entertainment is definatley not a strong point. The Michael Jackson tribute event was our favorite. We actually were annoyed a couple of nights because there is a bar area when you walk into the Calipso and people were loud and obnoxious which made it hard to enjoy the show.
I actually made the mistake of bragging about never being sick on any of our all inclusive vacations - and guess who woke up that night with super cramps and stomach pains? ME!! It was horrible - don't know what I ate / drank to cause it...ended up in bed most of the next day. The female bartender at the pool bar/pizza place made up some kind of horrible tasting drink for me and another in our party (sick too!) to help sooth our symptoms - and it actually did help...so THANK YOU!
Four of us did the speed boat / snorkel 3 hour excursion and it was pretty cool - we booked thru our Apple rep. with Aquatour. Actually had to switch our day due to being ill and we didn't have any trouble.
Only negative I have is the elevators didn't work right - they had a mind of their own if they worked at all - so we ended up just taking the stairs every time - 108 stairs to be exact to the 7th floor...whooped us every time! But a good way to work off all the food and drinks we had!

Having been to Mexico once before we chose this hotel carefully and were not disappointed. The rooms were spotless and the most comfortable bed we have ever had probably due to the extra topper on top of the mattress. Food was excellent, tried the steak house one night and was slightly disappointed, we tended to use the Albatross all the time and the staff were amazing especially Eva and Miguel. The main lobby bar with Maya was good fun every night except when he cut his finger doing the Tequela Toppers. The staff have to be commended as they are so friendly and Angel on reception phoned 3 times to our room to see if everything was ok. I would recommend this hotel. Shame about the weather on our third week it was very windy and raining all the time, but we just hopped on a bus and went shopping.

Room Tip: Better to be fourth floor or upwards.

Hi All

Just returned today from a fantastic two weeks at the Riu Caribe.

On arrival, excellent check-in, luggage quickly taken to the room, and then a phone call from reception ensuring we were happy with the room, which we were, which included the room safe.
Very bright , fresh and airy room, two large beds, large tv, sufficient storage, including an iron and ironing board, the bathroom had two sinks, toilet and a large walk-in shower.
All areas extremely well kept and constantly cleaned as well as our room.

Food is what you would usually find, international buffet style, we both always found something we enjoyed, my only gripe would be to say the food could have been hotter.
There are two snackbars within the pool area for during the day, one just serving pizzas, which you order the other once again buffet style incorporating a swim up bar.

There are also 3 themed restaurants to try, for which you need to book - Asian, Mexican and steakhouse.

The main bar areas are excellent serving I think any drink you can imagine and always with a smile, with a main function room for nightly shows, only some of which we watched, but enjoyed.

The animation team worked hard night and day around the pool as well as within the hotel itself, with gusto and a smile.

The one thing that really and I mean really sticks out at this hotel is its staff, from management to the gardener, they never stop ensuring you have an excellent stay, they are all so genuine, I have never come across this before.

The beach area is nice, once again well kept and great for an early morning stroll in the sea before breakfast.

Do not bother with the taxi's use the formula 1 style bus service, from just outside the hotel, a truly great experience, 10 peso per person which ever direction you go in, so easy to use, you will save yourself a fortune.

Without doubt, I am really looking forward to visiting this hotel again, and once again I will mention the staff, truly amazing and appreciated.

If there is any other questions I could maybe help with, pm me and I will try my best help.

All the best
Mark

beautiful beach. Clean and modern resort.Great service, staff was excellent! Drinks were very good, lots to choose from. Within walking distance to ferry to Isla Mujeres (recommended!!!!) 35 $ to the airport cab. We did take a shuttle service comming to hotel from airport and that was a mistake, because we end up paying 32 $ and shuttle was making multiple stops to bring people to different hotels. Do not waste your time, just grab a cab!
Now food review: we are foodies and love to explore different restaurants when we travel. But here is the thing, when one books a 'all inclusive' the expectations should be lowered, because it is a budget choice. When one wants to explore best food in cancun, please pay the money, book a not inclusive hotel and venture to the city to try different cousines! So the food in this resort was plentyful, lots of variety and choice. The ala cart restaurants were also good, steak house was my favorite, because of service, romantic location and tasty food. In asian restaurant (buffet style) fried ice ream is a must! Overall,we liked the resort and would recommend to people for a short vacation stay.
