“Lovely Hotel, lovely staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

We have just got back from a 2 week break at the Riu Caribe. We had a fab time and met lots of lovely people. The staff in all areas of the hotel were amazing, very helpful, polite and friendly. The view from our room was absolutely amazing, we were on the side of the hotel looking over both the sea and the lagoon, it was breath taking. Our room was really nice, very big with a king size bed. The mini bar in the room was stocked up regularly, even though we did have to steal some vodka from the next room one day, our own fault for drinking it all though.
The buffet restaurant is lovely and being health fanatics we were very pleased with the variation of healthy foods at each meal. The steak restaurant was amazing, however, very difficult to book into as always fully booked, but never seemed to be full. This tended to happen with all the exclusive restaurants and because of this we didn't manage to get into the Asian at all. This I would say was the only downfall for the hotel. If you go, ensure you book the restaurants in advance or you will miss out. The Mexican restaurant was very nice too. In fact we never had a bad meal. The sports bar offers snacks 24/7 which are not great but when you get in at 6am they are fine.
The pool and beach are lovely, the main pool is very lively which we loved, but there are also quieter pools if you just want to relax and the beach is very peaceful and really beautiful too.
The entertainment team were great, always lots of fun games, dancing etc going on at the main pool, which everyone gets involved in, this was perfect for us as we love to have fun by the pool in the day. The shows in the night are good too and aimed at all ages which is great, however after 11pm there is no entertainment so if you were staying in the hotel it could get a bit boring. The sports bar only plays sport there is no music.
The entertainment team arrange transfers to the best clubs each night and they go out of their way to ensure you have a good night. These nights are all inclusive drinks once in a venue and the entertainment team are always there to ensure best service. They are great, lots of fun, very helpful and work so hard.
All in all we had a fab time. We went 2 single girls and even though there was mixed ages of couples and families at the hotel, I found most single people were quite young. Being in my 30's I felt it was probably the wrong time of year to go as it was still a bit like spring break. I've been told July / August is a bit older.

Riu caribe is a great hotel. All of the employees are nice and welcoming. The activities are great. It's definitely an active resort. There's always something to do. It's not to far from downtown cancun. It's a short taxi ride to the city if you want to go shopping. The sports and entertainment team and great people. They put on good shows at night. The food is amazing. Breakfast lunch and dinner is on the money. The beach and pool are nice. People are up early in the morning claiming beach chairs so it won't be taken. The spa is amazing. I had my first massage there and it was amazing. I was very impressed. Everyone is nice. The nightlife is also something to experience. I'm definitely coming back in the near future.

We stayed at the Riu Cancun last year but could not book for this hotel this year as it was being refurbished, so we changed to the Caribe. This hotel did not comopare at all to the service we recieved at the Cancun, the staff were lovely but the waiter service was almost non existant, the two staff working in the lobby bar were kept busy and sometimes you just had to get up to go to the bar for your own drinks, this never happened in the cancun. The food was good but the choice was not as good as the cancun. There was no ironing board in the room, when I complained thys sent up a table top board which was ok, but not ideal. The iron was a steam iron but was so damaged the water ran straight out. If this had been my first holiday to Cancun it would of been fab, but because I had something to compare it with, it was good but not what I expect a Riu hotel to be. It was however clean and very comfortable, and the staff could not do enough for you. I would recomend it ot others and we did have a brilliant holiday

Room Tip: the front rooms are best for a full balcony, the side rooms have a small triangle which is supposed...

Best phrase to describe this resort is "you get what you pay for". The price, although not inexpensive is proportional to the service. We were treated with kindness, cordiality, and respect by all staff members from the waiters to the maids. The breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets were delicious and never scarce. First time going to Cancun and this hotel contributed to my amazing experience. Couldn't be more grateful.

Our party consisted of me my wife my daughter and her boyfriend, our stay at the rio caribe was brilliant,I can,t praise the staff enough our room was always spotless the bathroom was huge and the mini bar always refilled.the buffet restaurant always had a great selection of tasty food, and the waiters were berry attentive especially Thaizon for him nothing was too much trouble. We tried all the speciality restaurant's,there Asian ,mexican, and steak house. The waiter service at the pool and at the beach was brilliant but I must mention ysrael the beach waiter he served everyone quickly and always with a smile.the swim up bar was great and Fernando was the waiter who stood out there always joking with us and making us cocktails we had never even heard of before. We had trips to the pirate show, coco bongos, horse riding ,and saving the best till last "xscaret" if you don't do anything else while in cancun go here it is an adventure filled day starting with river snorkel, swimming with sharks, dolphins and rays, and whatever you do stay for the show at seven it tells the story of Mexico from pre conquistadors right up to the present day.short story told long we loved every bit of it.

Room Tip: For a great seaview floor seven or above

I just returned from vacation for a week with my husband there. My advice is to go in with a realistic expectation of what the resort has to offer. Personally, we went there to relax enjoy the beach, pool, and drink. Our room was small but we requested a king size bed, and we got one. The room was on the 5th floor to the right of the elevators, away from the lobby. It was quiet but clean, our balcony was smaller than others as it was a corner room and we could see the ocean but it was not an oceanfront by any stretch. That really didn't matter to us as we used our room for sleeping and showering. Our mini bar was always stocked, which was a definite plus. As for the food, it does get repetitive but nonetheless, there is always food available. I was a little apprehensive about having to make reservations days in advance but it was not a problem. We booked our reservations on Monday and Wednesday and were able to eat in a restaurant 6 out of the 7 nights we were there. My husband loved the Mexican restaurant. The Asian restaurant was good as well but I didn't eat the sushi as I was not feeling adventurous. The Steakhouse was okay but probably our least favorite.
We only found two major faults with the resort.
1.) Its more with the resort-goers than employees but you are allowed to eat lunch by the pool and on the beach. Many times people did not clean up after themselves which really attracts the birds and bugs. Gross. We saw a bird drop a chicken bone into the pool. Yuck. The cleaning service does do a great job despite the other vacationer’s lack of cleanliness.
2.) Customer service wasn’t the absolute best. On our last day, we had a difficult time connecting with our tour company to confirm our connection home. We booked through Liberty Travel/Olympus and the rep was always late/hard to get in touch with. When we approached the front desk to ask for them to make a courtesy call to the rep they told us they had nothing to do with the tour company (which is valid) and would have to charge us 27 pesos per minute to make the call. Which was not cool. Clearly, we were in a moment of need and just needed to place a local phone call and they would not budge! Thankfully, one of the other traveling reps helped us out which we greatly appreciated.
All and all it was a good experience. Not sure we will be booking at this Riu again anytime soon.

Room Tip: Choose a room 5th floor and above for less noise. Rooms to the right of the elevators are much quiet...

Another mom and I, along with our teenage daughters were at the Rui Caribe May 23-27th, 2014. We really loved this place. Excellent customer service, food was good, drinks were great, pool was perfect and so was the beach. Everything was kept very clean and all the staff were friendly and ready to help. The rooms have refrigerators and they keep them stocked with huge water bottles, pop and beer. We mostly spent our time relaxing and playing on the beach. We did go to Isle Mujares to swim with manatees, a sea lion, dolphins, sharks and sting rays which I would also recommend. We were up early the first day so we made reservations at all 3 restuarants that required a reservation without any problem. Steak house was our favorite! So much food and new things to try which was fun! We were on the 3rd floor, and Saturday night the hotel next door had loud music but we were so tired from playing the beach we all slept fine. That was the only time we heard loud music or loud people. AC in the room worked great. We actually had a room with 3 beds, one had a matress that was pretty hard but the other two were very comfortable. I would love to come back here again. It was a great, relaxing place to stay. The front desk staff were very helpful and the activity staff/crew were a lot of fun. Big shout out to Cesear!

Room Tip: We were told to request a room higher than the 3rd floor. We ended up staying on the 3rd floor and...
