came here on the 16th of June for 2 weeks absolutley loved the hotel and cancun I'm general, hotel very modern spotless and staff are amazing. Check in took 10 mins and rooms are fab, full mini bar which gets topped up every 2 days free of charge. Cleaners so friendly and leave room spotless. Room comes with free air con, fan and a safe. Couldn't fault this hotel. Pool very lively during day and entertainment team keep everyone occupied. Drinks and food all day long freshly made. Also a choice of 3 restaurants if buffet doesn't suit you. Staff are all so nice an NOE from steak house is just the most amazing person. would rate this hotel top mark and if you are thinking of going PLEASE DO

A bit late writing this review but here it goes anyway! stayed here in October 2013.

Pool Area - Is actually very good in the hotel. There is 1 quiet pool over by pizza bar which is nice and relaxing. the jacuzzi is located just up from that. they were both always nice and clean and no food or drinks were allowed in jacuzzi. The main large pool split into two connected under the walkover bridge. There was always beds available by the pool or on the beach. Swim up bar in main pool serving drinks till 7. after that it become in my opinion the only a la carte restaurant. I had read previews reviews about using your card to get a towel and being charge if lost it. My towel was taken from a sun lounger and they replaced it no questions asked.

Room - Room was a large junior suite on the 7th floor. Had an amazing view of the lagoon and the ocean/beach. It was always clean and the fridge stocked. My only negative is after upgrading we realised we were kind of hustled into paying for the up grade. Having arrived at the hotel having @ 10 pm having travelled from Europe and extremely tired were told of our room and that there was a chance to upgrade. They showed us a room which was on the ground floor and when we looked at it it was dark and behind the plants so assumed there would be no light or sunshine really during the day. Then they offered us the "upgrade". the showed us a room which was higher up but was right over the lobby and anyone who has been here knows how loud the lobby can get at night. So the room we were showed was so noisy and having travelled so far we just wanted a quick drink and bed. The noise so loud though we could never sleep her! Third room was the suite, much bigger and brighter than the others and we thought sure why not...but we were given the room at a "generous discount" but for a generous tip!

Food/Drink: As for food the pool restaurant and the buffets were all pretty standard. Exactly what you would expect from a canteen in work! The Mexican a la carte was the worst of the three reservation restaurants. You selected your own starters and desert from buffet and main was cooked fresh. The Asian well only the desert was cooked for you but the buffet was actually nice.the steakhouse was not amazing or anything to write home about but it was the best of the 3. Drinks were always good. The bar staff always willing to make cocktails or fancy drinks for you try, i suggest the "purple rain" shots or the "miami vice" cocktails

Staff - The staff at the hotel were great especially the entertainment staff and bar staff. They were always polite and going out of there way to make your stay welcoming, in particular Paris from the entertainment staff. The man never seemed to go home, weather he was out playing volleyball during the day or bringing us to nightclubs night, great chap. The only negative experience i have was at check in.

would i return...probably not. There are so many other hotels in cancun that i would prefer to try than returning.Feel that the rooms and food are standard so if you stayed here for longer you have to start venturing out to eat as the food is standard.

Four of us (2 couples) stayed in this hotel in may for 2 weeks. On arrival check in was quick and both of our rooms were upgraded with bigger balcony's and better views! We emailed the hotel before arriving explaining that it was my sisters partners birthday while we were staying there. On his birthday the cleaner decorated the room with balloons and towels made into cakes - we didn't have to remind them at reception on arrival too! Lovely surprise :-)

Entertainment team are so helpful! Organise nights out and actually come along with you - not like the reps - who are selling tickets for nights out to clubs they have never even been to which are more expensive and don't include transport! Definitely would recommend coco bongos. That's the only club we enjoyed wouldn't recommend Mandela beach party - we went as two couples and it was just a bikini contest (girls going top less on stage) which we wasn't even warned about. The city nightclub, was cramped and looked like an old warehouse - more of a rave. Beware waiters always expect a tip and wait on you all night, but expect you to pay them a tip at the end :)

Beach is amazing!! Even better in real life than the pictures, water sports are expensive though.

Food was great! Lots of variety and I'm a fussy eater and managed to find something. Cocktails are good too, id recommend - strawberry daiquiri and amaretto sours.

We had professional photos done at the hotel! Absolutely great!!

Overall we had a lovely time and would like to thank the staff for making it a great holiday as it's my first time in Mexico! Best hotel I've ever been to by far.
Team Riu caribe!! :D

Gutted to be home after spending 2 weeks in this hotel (14-28 June) it was the best holiday ever. I really don't understand why anyone would complain about the hotel as it was pretty much perfect.
The hotel itself is lovely; it's really clean, the staff are so friendly and it's in a great location. There's a bus stop just outside and the buses run every couple of minutes. It's the cheapest way to get around Cancan and works out about 45p per person one way.

The bedrooms are really big and there's lots of space; we were on the 8th floor (room 876) at the side of the hotel so we could see the ocean and the lagoon. We hardly touched the optics as the spirits weren't the best; the fridge is stocked up daily with water, beers and juice. You can order branded spirits at the bars but you need to ask for them or they will give you local spirits.
We didn't have any problems with the lifts as some reviews said people waited quite a while for them but they are very very hot.

The food was nice enough; it gets a bit repetitive after a while but I think it would in most hotels. The main buffet restaurant had quite a lot of choice and would suit most people. We tried the Asian restaurant which was nice; order the fried ice cream it's amazing! The Mexican restaurant was a bit of a disappointment but was still ok, I just expected more seeing as we were in Mexico. We didn't try the steak house.
If you fancy going out the complex I would recommend the Outback which is a steak and burger restaurant. It's about 10-15 mins away on the bus (passed coco bongos) it was the best burger I've ever had and the portions are massive. We also went to Hard rock café which was also lovely!

The pool area is great during the day, I'm not sure if it was because of the time of year we went but I expected to struggle to get a lounger as some people had said this on here but it wasn't that bad. You could still get a lounger after 10 but if you want a particular spot best to get up before 8 and put your towel down; no one will move it or take it away.
The entertainment team try there best to get people involved in activities so if you like that kind of thing there's thing to do during the day. The night-time entertainment isn't the best unfortunately; we went to one show and that was enough.

Overall though the hotel is fab and I would recommend it to anyone; I don't understand the bad reviews at all but you can't please everyone.

We booked our trips through Thomson's which was quite expensive but I would recommend swimming with the dolphins; what an experience and well worth the money. lunch and drinks are included in the price and if you chose to buy disc with all your photos haggle with them and they will reduce the price.
You need to book the captain hook pirate ship it's a must; they put on a great show, dinner and all your drinks are provided and it turns into a disco before docking.
And finally Coco Bongos; I don't even know how to explain it but what a show. We got the Gold member tickets and it was worth it as you get a seat with a great view and all drinks included. There's no way I' have waned to be seated on the ground floor; it was heaving!

High 5 to Cancun and to the best holiday ever!!

Me and my girlfriend recently got back from Cancun after spending 2weeks at the Riu Caribe.

We booked our holiday package through Thomson and when we landed at Cancun airport there was a Thomson rep to show us to our taxi. Be careful with the people who don't work for Thomson as they just take your suitcases 20 metres and expect a tip when they aren't needed. The hotel was about 25 mins drive away and when we arrived we were greeted with drinks. We went up to our room which was on the 6th floor and had amazing view over the Caribbean sea and lagoon. The room was immaculate and the fridge was full of water, pepsi, pepsi max, 7up and beer. There were two double beds seperate from each other, but reception rang to ask if everything was ok after 10mins and someone came up and put the beds together which was good. After making sure everything was working we noticed that there was a problem with the plumming and rang reception who sent up a handyman who sorted it within a couple of minutes. (This also happened again later into the holiday). The next day we got up early and went for breakfast at 7am which is what time it opens. Great selection of food for breakfast ranging from full english, fruit bars and juices, american breakfast (pancakes and waffles), continental breakfast, cereals and breads etc. You have someone serving you drinks throughout breakfast including tea and coffee. Being all inclusive you can obviously ask for any drink, we noticed people drinking red wine for breakfast.

Later in the morning we went to the gym. The gym is small but ok, it has dumbells ranging up to 25kg, one flat bench, one inclined and one sitted. t has a rowing machine, 2 treadmills, one chest machine with variable gradient, decline sit up bench and a lat pull down machine with a seated row.

The pool area is really good, you are fine getting a sunbed up until about 8am then you would struggle. The heat was ridiculous and you have to get in the pool after every 15mins of sunbathing to cool down, but later in the day at about 2 the water is hot from the days sun and doesnt cool you down that much. Throughout the day at the pool the reps have games like water polo, water volleyball, competitions, water aerobics, sea aerobics, dance lessons, ping pong, beach football and zumba. These are fun but after 2weeks you notice the cycle and it gets a little repetitive. The swim up bar has good service but that small area that it is at smells a bit, probably just from people spilling drinks etc. They have a different 'cocktail of the day' every day which is a good way to try the different ones as there isnt a cocktail menu, so generally just get one that you have seen someone else get that looks nice. Our favourites were MangoTango, strawberry daqouris and sex on the beach and sexy banana.

Lunch time food was brilliant in the first week as they had pool side barbeques and live cooking every day, but they didnt do this once in the second week which was a shame. The lunch time buffets were ok but they started getting very repetitive after 2 weeks - but im sure most things would. The pool side buffet was open all day so you could also get ice cream, coffee, cakes and fruit etc. We used the pizza bar a few times too which was really good, it makes pizzas for you fresh, they are about 9inch and they made margarita, Hawaiian, pepperoni, sea food and mexican. They take about 10mins to make. Cant really comment on the quiet pool as we didnt spend any time there, all I can say is it looked, quiet.

The special restaurants were generally good. You make reservation for these up to 48hours in advance from downstairs outside the Mexican restaurant. If you want to make reservations, do them on the way to breakfast before 8am and you should generally get what you want as long as it is for the next day or day after. We went to each of the speciality restaurants twice, beginning with the asian. It is pretty much a chinese takeaway. There is duck, spring rolls, sweet and sour pork, rice, sushi, and then at the end you can get fried ice cream. Like i say we did this twice and the food didnt changed so its the same all the time. The steakhouse is horrific for the steak, lovely for the chicken. I have never had steak like what you get here, it just disappears in your mouth and does not seem like meat. I asked other people what they thought incase it was just me but they said the same. Was also a bit ill from it the next day so obviously not a good sign. The second time we went back i got the chicken which was good. No buffet for this, just set meals, the starter being cheese sticks and prawns. The mexican was also pretty good, being a buffet for starter which had things like burrito's, quesadillas, enchiladas etc. Main course was set meals, either chicken/beef fajitas, steak or some spicy thing which we never tried. Steak was delicious, really recommend that. The fajitas were nice, just the wraps werent very good, very thick and didnt really go anywhere when you chewed them. Generally good though. The main buffet for tea was the only real let down for us on the holiday, really poor.We ate here 4 times, and these times were only because we had been out on trips so didnt know what time we would be back therefore unable to book any restaurants. You just couldnt have a meal, i.e you could only get for example a chicken wing, and a bit of cheese, and a sausage, and some rice. You couldnt just have like lasagne for your meal, it was just a bit of this and a bit of that. It didnt change either, it was the same every day and these things you could of got it all for lunch from the pool side restaurant.

Evening entertainment was good for the first 10days or so then it began its cycle again. Some nights the reps would put on a show and the some nights they would get people in like a michael jackson dance tribute and things alike. The shows started at 9.45pm and ended 10.30pm

Spent 2 weeks at resort from 12/06/2014. Hotel is in good location on the beach, public areas very clean and plenty of air conditioning. Check in well organised took no more than 10 mins. At first glance room seemed sparsely furnished, all rooms are basically furnished but spotlessly clean and tidy with lovely bathroom and comfy bed.
Staff very attentive and friendly, food and drink first class plenty of choice and all freshly cooked.
Weather was amazing very hot, hardly any rain at all despite warnings of storms.
Beach very good and sea lovely.
Loads going on during the day and evening, not the place to come if you are looking for Caribbean peace and tranquillity but the animation team are not pushy and if you say no they will move on to another victim!
Overall a great holiday, would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: ask for rooms on floor 4 or above for best views

It is a big hotel, on the upper (northern) part of Cancun. Rooms are pretty good and all of them have a view to the ocean (although some face the side, not the front of the hotel). Staff is great, always helpful and cheerful (it helped that we were there during Soccer World Cup and Mexico was doing OK). The pool is alright, if you like pools, and the bar is always opens serving enormous quantities os Dos Equis beer. But what makes this hotel stand among others is the beach, which is wonderful, and the sports activities available to the guests. Aside from soccer, stand up paddle and kayaks, the hotel has 4 catamarans available for free for the guests. I sailed the beautifully blue caribbean waters everyday. There's also jet-skis and parasailing, but those are form third parties and have to be payed for. The food is pretty good, and the whole family had a great 10 days there. You have 90 minutes per day internet access in the hall, and you can buy unlimited access for a week for U$50, which I did, because not only we wanted access in the room but also because the signal reached the beach. On a single world, great. I would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Choose rooms above 5th floor so that you have an ocean view. The rooms facing the ocean also face th...
