“Great stay for 1st time in Mexico”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Went to Cancun on a 1st time 'annual' ladies getaway (April 2013). The Royal Caribbean was a great resort. The suite we had was fabulous, it had bedroom with king sized bed, bathroom, living/dining room, 2 murphy beds, balcony the length of suite, full size kitchen. Room service kept the suite clean and left extra towels at times. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and helpful (our currency exchange lesson at check -- thank you). The beach is GREAT and the pool(s) FABULOUS.

All areas are beyond clean and I am a clean freak. The lobby, hallways, elevators, gym (kind of small), pool area, beach, bathrooms in pool area..all CLEAN!!!! You see staff cleaning from sun up to sun down. Staff speaks with a smile. LOVED LOVED when the 'happy hour' bell rang at the swim up bar....jump in and away you go. There is someone that hand cleaned the tiles around the pool EVERY morning. What you see in pictures in what you see in person.

This was a dream vacation..was not crowded, loud, rowdy, just perfect. I would without a doubt stay at The Royal Caribbean in Cancun again. Did hear it was supposed to go to 'timeshares' I hope not. You must ride the local bus, it is an experience you will enjoy and not forget. You go all the way downtown for an inexpensive fare and we shopped at Wal-Mart for water and snacks. The market downstairs (lobby area) we shopped at for our breakfast items and snacks as well. You will enjoy your stay.

Oh the water was a little choppy and we visited a sister property up the road and the water calmer but had a lot of seaweed.

We loved this place, it made our trip to Cancun. The service was excellent and the resort had everything we needed. A wonderful place to stay with friendly staff. We got the suite which had a great view.

Didn't spend a great deal of time at the resort but my impressions were:

The property is outdated but clean and well managed.
Front desk and cleaning staff were helpful and cordial.
Had just one meal (buffet dinner) at the restaurant and it was acceptable; lacked variety.
Private beach was VERY clean and didn't have any problems finding umbrellas or chairs. Life guards were also on duty.
The bedroom was spacious and clean with an oceanview.

Other amenities that were good: Free WIFI, coffee shop, grocery store, gym, bus stop at front entrance

Didn't use the pool or spa.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel BEFORE you begin travel to confirm your stay. Booked through orbitz and the hotel...

Spent the week before Memorial Day enjoying the sun (and a little bit of rain :) here. The rooms were nice and spacious and well laid out. We directly faced the ocean which as wonderful. Four adults and 2 children stayed in a two bedroom. The pull down beds in the living room were a nice surprise so everyone had a bed. The pool area is large and wonderful. There were always chairs available and the Happy Hour every afternoon was great. The food at the resort was good and not a bad price. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet one morning and it was very good. We used the kitchen in the room a few times and it was well equipped. The beach was really nice and the sand was white and powdery. Plenty of chairs. The water was a rough though with red flags out daily. The market was very handy for supplies for the room as well as munchies plus the hours were late which was convenient.

Room Tip: I think all rooms have good view but ours was 403 which had a great ocean view.

We had a 2 bedroom suite with a great view. The service has been 5 star and were extremely friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms were large, clean and kept up daily. The pool area is beautiful with great service also for drinks and food, with plenty of chairs and shade. The beach is also beautiful with bar and food service also. The restaurant, Tradewinds, food is average but with great service. There is a full market i the resort with higher prices but very convenient.

All of our needs were attended to and we could check out early to avoid the lines. There is a travel agent for excursions and airport transportation. I would recommend staying here to everyone.

Room Tip: The higher the room the better the view. All of the rooms have a view of the ocean

My family and I just spent a week here and had a great time. The pool area is nice and the beach front is gorgeous. But, this is definitely an outdated, basics-only resort. There are some nice things: it's very clean, has a great market, large suites, excellent view, and thoughtful security monitoring the beach. But, I would not stay here again and would not recommend it to others. The decor is very outdated, and the quality of linens, etc. is low. Their pool amenities are limited, with too few umbrellas and just the traditional chez loungers, none of the more modern lounging beds, hammocks, etc. They are very petty with services (charging for use of laundry, monitoring pool towels that are only distributed one per person and you have exchange them at their activity center - our check-out was even delayed because we hadn't returned our towels due to their activity center hours). They treat guests more like a nuisance or a potential target for their salesmen ("Concierges"). It took us more than 2 hours to check in (including an hour in line and then almost an hour sales pitch in our rooms, where they pushed everyone including wet T-shirt contests). Other resorts I've visited welcome you with a margarita and a smile - here, we felt like weary hostages that after a day of travel just wanted to get settled and get some food. The food options are mediocre and the facility is at the top of a hill that was difficult for the older members of our group - causing us to pay $10 for a taxi just to get to the bus at the bottom of the hill. If someone offers to take you here for free, do it! But, I would recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

The room is clean and nicely turned out with good facilities but the hotel is a confusing mess, and the staff are about as unhelpful and rude as i have experienced. 2 examples:
when checking in we were ignored for 15 minutes and then the receptionist arguesd with us, telling us we could not check in without a booking confirmation, despite having passports to show who we were, and him having the reservation details from booking.com. Apprently we also had to forward him the confirmation email we recieved from booking.com. I have never heard this before, and it was frustrating after a long journey to be kept from checking in.
In the shop we bought 82 pesos worth of stuff and paid with p$100, the staff were insistent we pay with credit card (expensive fees abroad so we didnt want to) or on the room account (which was closed by then as we were checking out the next day). Finally accepted cash, before saying he did not have any change. His solution was to void items on the sale until it reached a smaller amount that we could pay for in exact change. Didnt even try to find change form the other tills etc. Bad customer service and lack of basic things like hospitality try, kettle, shampoo, local info etc in the rooms really let this hotel down.

Room Tip: nice view from sea rooms.
