“MOON PALACE - AMAZING ... FEEL LIKE YOU OWN THE PLACE”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

We returned from Moon Palace early this week - stayed 8 days and it was as always, amazing. We have been many times before, but this time, we rented from and owner, and it was wonderful. We stayed in the center section, Sunrise, and for those of you who are planning to visit later in the month, the Nizuc lobby and restaurants are now open after the remodeling!

This is a beautiful resort that just keeps getting better. If you are looking for all the bells and whistles, consider renting from an owner like we did.

We had a beautiful 2 bedroom Presidential Suite - and two all inclusive golf suites, with unlimited golf benefits.

Moon Palace has been better each time we have visited, this trip was the best ever because of the owner who helped us rent. If this sounds like something you want to do ... go to Vacation Rental By Owner .... VRBO.COM and look up property #345064.

The owner's name is Justine, and she wonderful. She knows all the details, and you are dealing with someone who has been to Moon Palace many times and has lots of tips on all the ways to make your trip perfect.

Thank you Justine ... we hope to visit again next year!!!!

Rob and Debbe

Room Tip: We recommend the Sunrise section or Nizuc ... they are more lively than Moon Grand ... if you want t...

We have just returned from the most amazing wedding week at Moon Palace & just have to share our experience & thanks to some very special people.
After staying at Moon Palace in Jan 2012, we knew that we wanted to return there for our wedding in Nov.2013. While there were many other resorts we could have considered we knew that bringing 40 guests from Canada for our wedding meant that we needed needed quality, consistency & an incredible resort for our dream wedding. Once again we were proven correct that there is truly no better place for a family holiday & also a wedding.
From the initial contact, throughout the months prior of planning & right up until & even after our wedding week we continue to receive the very best in communication, service & assistance from our favorite resort.
A few special people we would like to acknowledge; although every single one of the staff at Moon Palace goes above & beyond for their guests, we have a few favorites that deserve special recogition.
Firstly, Guadalupe, the bartender in the Nizuc Lobby. He is actually the main reason we chose to have our wedding at Moon Palace. During our incredible trip there in Jan 2012, it was "Lupe" who treated us like royalty, greeted us by name every single day & went out of his way to remember our favorite drinks & even details about our family that we shared with him. His warmth & kindness were far beyond what one would expect, even at a 5 star resort. We enjoyed our stay SO MUCH because of him (among many other things!) that returning to this resort with 40 guests for our wedding was a no brainer. We chose Moon Palace for our wedding because of Lupe. And we will go again & again because of him. He was SO happy to see us again & our other guests also got the royal treatment from him. We were able to get him as our own personal bartender at some of the wedding events we had planned & our guests were equally impressed by him. THANK-YOU LUPE!!!!! We can't wait to see you again, we will be back soon!
Another special thank-you to Gregorio from the Valentin Pool Room Service for his impeccable service & kind natured personality, on the morning after our wedding. He brought a feast fit for kings to our room & not only set it all up for us & continually asked if he could do more, but he also congratulated us & asked about our magical wedding. He was absolutely awesome! The personal service we received was another reason we will continue to go back.
Lastly, but far from least, we have a HUGE & HEARTFELT thank-you to our most amazing wedding coordinator Emy. This sweet, darling woman must be part Saint. She did everything & more to make our wedding & week there the most incredible experience of our lives to date. We had several group functions booked for our family & friends of 40 people; welcome cocktail, rehearsal dinner, wedding cocktail, dinner & dance reception & a farewell cocktail & dinner. ALL of this went perfectly smoothly, with wonderful service & delicious food & drinks. Emy coordinated absolutely everything & sent me daily reminders via email & messages to our room about the days events, the time & the location. The only thing that was out of all of our control of course was the weather. Of course we ended up getting some rain & a couple events including the wedding itself had to be moved to accommodate the weather. While that could throw some brides into instant upset & stress, Emy was my rock. The changes happened seamlessly & she smiled & hugged me & made everything ok. While I am sure she must deal with so much stress in situations like this, she didn't waiver, always smiled & it was always her pleasure to help make it perfect. And that she did! I am proud to say that the changes which had to be made because of weather, made our wedding even BETTER than it would have been had it been according to our original plan. At every moment during our week I could reach Emy or she just magically appeared like an angel, to ensure we had absolutely EVERYTHING we needed. While I know she was also dealing with many other brides all week, I felt like she was all mine, in the best way, that is how attentive & fabulous she was. The reason our wedding was such an incredible success & beyond not only our dreams, but that of our 40 guests, was because of Emy Valdovinos. Without a doubt. We have only been home for a week & I wake up every morning missing her beautiful smile & sweet demeanor. I can't wait to go back to see her. Whatever her salary is, it is not enough, Emy is worth her weight in gold. Love & God Bless you Emy, thank-you with all our hearts!!!! YOU made our dreams come true.
See you soon Moon Palace!

Wow where do I start. Flew from Manchester with Thomas Cook a good 11 hour direct flight so we were a little jetlagged. Was nice to arrive at 2pm to be greeted by the Moon Palace Staff at the airport and arrived in almost 10 minutes time at The Moon Palce Resort. Were around 30 minutes drive from the Cancun strip and 20 minutes drive from the sister hotels Beach Palce and Sunrise Palce which you can also use any day by catching the bus from The Moon Palace Resort at 12pm-4pm or 2pm-6pm baring in mind this is a first come first served basis so find out where you get picked up from and get a ticket asap as the hotel only hands out 20 tickets for each section of the hotel. There are three sections to the hotel, easy to walk along the beach to or catch the bus every 10 minutes which goes from Lobby to Lobby, or if you can catch the golf buggys they go on routes you never knew exsisted and are great to see wildlife, the beach, different areas of the hotel and the basket ball courts. The three sections are Moon Grand which is where me and my partner stayed. Swim up bars, Snack Bar, Resturant I would say this area is more for honey mooners etc Be sure to walk around as our second to last day we found another swimming pool with four poster beds, comfy cushions and towels.
The second part is the Nizzuc which apparently re-oped in November, this has more restuarnts, more swimming pools, a spa and a slide, its busier than the grand but not as busy as The Sunrise which is the third part of the hotel this has a nightclub called Noir, a skybar with waitress service, a spa and a wave machine which usually has kids on but you will always get a go.
There is the another area to the Moon Palace called The Golf Resort which you do have to get a golf cabby to. The spa in there is beautiful again with swimming pools and the Italian resyurant which is the only resturant you have to book for and would advise you did it as soon as you arrived. We used our credits in the hotel to book some treatments and if you get there one hour before you can use the sauna, steam room, foot baths and jacuzis. They then call you and sit you in the dark quiet waiting room with a heated pillow around your neck.
You can also use your credits on trips such as The Jungle tour which was my favourite from boat rides to jet skis to snorkiling, Chichen Itza which is very intresting but it gets very hot and is around a 3 hour drive here and bask, Coco Bongos which is a great night out drinks included all night but they do try to get you to buy photos, be sure to get there earlyish and to the front of the que inside for good seats and then we also used it to swim with the dolphins on the beach at the Moon palace which was amazing. You can always book through your rep but if you use your credits through the hotel you only pay 11% on them so for these 4 trips it cost us around £200 altogether and thats 4 days out with free drinks at coco and a free meal at Chitchen Itza which I think is great. So check your credits as soon as you get to the hotel through the vacation planners

As soon as we got off the bus from the airport we were greeted with refreshing flannels and drinks, escorted to our rooms and shown how everything works. I do believe the Moon Grand have bigger rooms with Kingsize beds and larger balconies with double sun beds on them and a veiw of the garden and in the background there is some building work that has just been stopped, where as the Nizzuc and Sunrise could have the beach veiw so it depends what you prefer, you can use your credits to upgrade your room.
In your room you have a pillow menu, aromatherapy oil menu, wine and nibble menu, room serive which is 24 hr, slippers and bath robes, optics we actually asked to swap our drinks to Malibu and Grey goose vodka and they came within 10 minutes, a coffee/tea machine, safe, brilliant air con, jacuzzi,Chi products of Shampoo, Conditioner, body lotion, bath bubbles and if you run out just ask for more amazing hair dryer and straightners you do not need your GHDS. Clean room every day with animals made out of your towels, lcd tv, dvd rental at the lobby desk, a phone to make calls to reception, booking trips, room service etc. Every evening around 7pm strawberries with dipped chocolate or warm mini cakes would arrive and if you wasnt in they leave them on the side for you, they then clean your room again for you whilst your out and give you fresh towels. The resturants and food was all amazing, try them all but our favourite was the mexican at Sunrize. There is a swing bar at the Sunrize with service by the pool, burgers and pizza huts by the pool. I could just go on and on but i do believe if you tip them every now and again they do those little extras for you, The mexican are the nicest and freindliest people we have ever met especially Hiberto in the Grand section resturant that gave us a champagne breakfast on arrival. Dont be falled that you are not near any shops as there are shops in the resort that sell sun creams and lilos plugs, first aid, toiletries, jewlery etc you can also use some credits on things. There are gyms in the resort and be sure to find out all evening and daily entertainment by getting a print off weekly.
Amazing holiday will definetly be back!

This hotel was probably the best hotel I've stayed in however it wasnt perfect a few things let it down, I feel really harsh saying that but after a few days here you can see why.
The hotel is alot further away from Cancun than i was told, not the hotels fault at all but something you should know.
I stayed in the moon palace grand and was told this was the best part of the hotel, in my opinion its not, the sunrise was much nicer and so was the Nizuc section.
The hotel is massive and I think it struggles to cope when the hotel is full ie height of the season when i travelled there, there wasnt enough towels for around the pool or beach and we constantly had to wait everyday for some if we got any at all! same goes for sun loungers, what annoyed me the most though was there is something called either diamond or platinum club or something and there were always beds and towels kept back for them despite them hardlys ever being used?
Feel awful for saying this because 90% of the hotels staff were amazing however some of them just didnt want to know and were not helpful at all, i wish i could remember the names of the 1's who were fantastic as they are a credit to the hotel.
The restaurants were really good and there was an enormous amount of choice something for everyone and the food was first class, as were the bars they are all stocked with premium brands none of the usual crap your normally served abroad.

Now the good bits
the room was enormous, with a huge bed a double whirlpool tub in the room, massive balcony with double sun lounger on, a mini fridge that was freshly stocked everyday, a mini bar, 4 bottles of spirits! aircon, the usual tv, iron etc
the room was cleaned everyday and they come in and make your room ready for bed everyevening and leave you little treats which i thought was a really nice touch.
The hotel has its own dolphins that you can book and swim with using the hotels credit system some people have been really critical of the credit service but cant say i experienced any difficulty using them at all, i thought it was a very well run service and great value for money. There are many different trips you can book while in Cancun, you can book a different 1 for each day, and most using the hotel credits.
1 thing to note for anyone travelling with small families is you have to be 7 i think it was to do the dolphin swim and be able to swim as its at the end of a pier in the sea, you can do a separate trip if your children are smaller into cancun but this is not covered by the hotel credits.
I didnt use any of the golf facilitys but i got told they are first class.
The hotel is under going some construction work, this didnt affect our stay at all i never heard a single noise while we were there, but it does mean that certain parts of the hotel arent what im guessing up to the standards of what it usualy is, ie when we arrived the reception desk is outside of the grand currently the staff do their best to make you comfortable serving you drinks, giving you cold towels etc but you really want to be doing that stuff in a air conned lobby, trust me this place is hot!
The grand will be opening up a brand new section with an enourmous lobby in 2015 i was told and id recommend going then, the hotel had a huge amount of different facilities there was a gym on the Nizuc section that had everything in you'd need, tennis courts, nightclubs, loads of restaurants(you could eat in a different 1 every night if you wanted to), a doctors, a shop etc

Overall the hotel was amazing but its not 5 star i do think that when the new Grand section opens in 2015 it will return to being a 5 star hotel and I would definetly return for a second visit.

Check in was fast but the front desk said for $99 for 6 days we could get an ocean view room. I took it but now I think it was just a way to make extra money. Stayed at the Sunrise section great pools and restaurants plus went to others on resort. There lots of stairs in this section if you are with elderly person this might be a problem. There are ramps for people with wheelchairs.
The restaurant food was all good and always at leat one item that was great. Best was at the golf course La Trattoria tasty cheese soup and pasta. Lamb chops good too. The buffet at the Grand even had sushi.

All pools were great could get in them without freezing the beach was as the others said. I thought it couldn't be but it was but the pools make up for it.
The hotel does a lot of conventions and when we there HERBALIFE was there I felt out of place because almost everyone at the Sunrise was their Spanish speaking group. They were all polite and not disrupted. 1 of the 3 sections should try to cater to non convention guests.

Took the Chichen Itza tour that was included with the credits very long day but I think worth it. Tour guide pushes the shopping at the stop for lunch but there is lot of vendors at the site and it easier to haggle to get a better price.
Overall great resort and great staff

A little late- but wanted to give my feedback. This was my first visit to any Palace Resort (I did travel as a guest of a member) anyone can do this- research this before you visit! We travel every year to Mexico or the Carribean- Some of my other favorite resort chains are: Dreams, Iberostar & Palladium. My family really enjoys the larger MEGA SIZE resort. If that isn't your thing...this resort isn't for you.

What we loved: Close to the airport- not driving an hour down to Riveria Maya! The size of the resort- ability to use all of the other hotels/pools/restaurants in this complex with no limitations. The pools- beautiful! The availability of food & bars directly adjacent to the pool. Pool waiters (not every large resort has them!) The number of food choices & the ease of getting into restaurants (not having to make reservations for the whole week on the first day!) The additional amenities geared toward families (flow-rider, teen club, kids club, family suites with adjacent rooms - this type of room option is CERTAINLY not available everywhere) Room Service, Mini-bar in the room with FULL SIZE bottles, Quality of the bedding, Amount of activities scheduled daily, the Nightclub, the free transportation to Beach Palace & complimentary use of that hotel- which we LOVED. Resort credits were a nice addition to our vacation (we swam with dolphins, had numerous spa visits, upgraded wine with dinner, kids had their hair done in the beauty shop, we all had mani-pedis) We also liked that the rooms were connected to the lobby- It rained (really rained) a few days & we liked that we could easily get to the lobby without walking miles in the rain or waiting for a train to pick us up outside our room. FREE WI-FI and FREE CALLS TO THE US (this is HUGE for traveling with kids!!!)

What we didn't love; the resort is Huge and geared to host GIANT conventions- these can have a negative impact your trip (resort can become over-crowded, guests at these conventions can be rude & overwhelm the restaurants & pool areas) However- Palace resorts does post a schedule of these on their website, so you can plan to avoid these groups. Towel game!!! crazy because there are SO MANY CHAIRS here. People reserve pool chairs with their towels- and NEVER show up ALL DAY- Palace needs to stop allowing this silly practice. While we felt the resort credit program was a value....it certainly did seem over-priced (esp. the photo program - would love to see more options) The beach - but we research any resort we visit before we go- so we knew exactly what to expect (the few days we spent at Beach Palace more than made up for that!) We felt that service & food at some restaurants was a little below expectations - but again, we visited at prime time in August with a convention going on. Member transportation back to the airport was AWFUL- they were late, we waited forever, bus was crowded! You are so close to the airport- definitely worth it to just take a taxi or schedule a private transfer.

Overall- we really enjoyed this trip- my teenage daughters who travel with us every year told us this resort was their ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. This resort caters to families for sure. We will return to Moon Palace & most certainly will try another one of their properties.

Jesus at the omelette bar in the Sunrise Buffet was EXCELLENT- he is an amazing employee- you are lucky to have him!

Room Tip: We stayed in Mango- we really wanted to be in the "center of the activity" close to pools...
