“Ignore the people who love to complain”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014

This hotel is amazing the staff are friendly and the rooms Re clean.
Food- people that are complaint that the food was the same is very untrue with at least 5 different restaurants to eat in I found it unbelievable that the food was the same whilst I was there there was always lots of options steak, lobster, squid, chicken, beef, pork and lamb and always lots of veg and salad! One night even serving iguana tacos!
Rooms - theses are amazing hot tubs in room or balcony. With drink optics in every room that are always stocked up a fridge full off water, Pepsi, 7up Canada Dry and beer of some sort.
Cleaners- theses guys work amazing hard to keep this hotel clean and they do a great job
Pools- are lovely very clean and plenty of them with both child and adult only pools.
So after this long review basically in short this hotel is lovely and is definitely worth a visit!

We traveled to the RIU Palace Peninsula Cancun from March 31-April 5th. Check in was a breeze, we got there early in the morning (around 9am) and our Villa was not ready (as expected). They kept our luggage in the lobby and gave us our wristbands and directed us to the hospitality room to start enjoying all the amenities the Hotel had to offer. The Lobby and hotel is very modern and neat. The property grounds were very well maintained.

We stayed in the Adults only section of the hotel (Villas), Although we did not have an ocean view, we had a nice jacuzzi on our balcony. The rooms were also very nice, but we didn't spend to much time in them besides to sleep. We were also about 20 steps from the Villas private infinity pool. The villa only pool was never busy and offered cabanas to lay in or pool chairs (and they always had plenty available, so you did not have to go out early and save a chair or anything. I would like to give a shout out to Fernando who is a bartender/waiter at the Villa Pool. He did an amazing job and is one of the friendliest guys i have met. He truly is an asset to their staff and ensures a good time is had by all.

The Beach was also very nice. According to other reviews...it is "too rocky", but we are from Illinois and had a horrible winter, so to us, a beach is a beach :). It did have some rock formations but i thought it just added character. It still had a very nice beach area. Make sure to visit Freddy at the beach bar, another awesome bartender. The other pools (although we did not go to them often, were also very nice and maintained). We did not visit the swim up bar, because Fernando just kept the drinks coming at the villa pool.

The Restaurants were ALL very good. My only complaint is that you have to make reservations 2 days in advance, and we were there for only 5 nights. So we could only visit a few restaurants. We went to Kaulinarium 2 nights (which is the VILLA private restaurant), and it was amazing. We also visited the steakhouse one night, which was also great. All the other meals, we just went to the buffet, and they always had a good variety and the food was very good. They also cook food by the pools for lunch, so check that out. The hotel offers a sports bar, which is nothing special, but a nice place to watch a game and grab a quick snack (open 24 hours).

The lobby bar was also a fun location to visit. I would recommend going during the day and visiting Guzmon. He was a great and friendly bartender to us. It was not busy during the day, so he had many great conversations with us and even got us hooked on El Jimador tequila. (trust me, try it out), so a shout out to him and the service he provided.

Overall, this place was a great all-inclusive resort. If you stay here, you get access to the other 3 RIU resorts in Cancun. We checked out the RIU Caribe which was right next door. They did have a good pizza bar, so check that out, but other than that, we were happy with our choice. If you get a chance, take a trip out to Isla Mujeres, its an island you can see from our resort and is very neat. We did a Catamaran excursion out there, and it was well worth it. I would definitely recommend staying here, you are guaranteed to have a good time!

Room Tip: If you don't care about an Ocean View, go for the Villas. Much quieter and you have a private p...

My husband & I both agreed that this is the best place we have ever been so far.
Definitely better than our Bahamas Cruise. This is more relaxing & safer place on earth. Food is great, and people are very warm. Diana from Olympus Travel is great. Her recommendation is the best too. Our snorkeling experience is very memorable and Coco Bongo is the place to go at night. Cancun's Tourism is very impressive. Ahhh!!! I am thinking "pinacolada" again....

Room Tip: Ocean View is the best!

Girls trip in February was perfect at the Riu. Clean, new, no $$ surprises. Wine, not to my friends taste, but would consider shipping a case down if we come again. Jesus by the pool was a fast favorite. No complaints! Love Riu properties.

My husband had never been to Cancun or Mexico for that matter and so we decided to go on a quick, 4 night trip to a tropical location to get away that wasn't going to be a 5 hour plane ride. As I always do, I read the reviews for the hotels before booking and this hotel on average had great reviews so we booked it. I saw some of the negative reviews on here, but we had a great experience overall. I booked through hotels.com and thought I booked a villa with an oceanview. It wasn't but for a 15.00/day up charge, they gave us a villa with the view on the third floor in the corner. The only downside was that we were by the stage and it could get very loud, but we only had one night we heard it as we were out the other nights and it was over by 11pm, which I think is reasonable. The room was fantastic--great view, hot tub on our balcony, comfy bed and lots of room. The only downfall to the room was the sign that says water is not drinkable is very small and we had used it to brush our teeth a couple nights and I noticed a bit of a septic smell in the shower water. Would love gatoraide available in the rooms for replenishing fluids from drinking alcohol and dehydration of being in the sun all day.

The food was excellent...no complaints. Didn't use the reservations for the reservation only restaurants because we don't want to be on a time schedule on vacation. Loved the pico! The desserts weren't labeled to let us know what they were so maybe a sign saying what they were would be nice. Drinks were good--best pina colada ever. Pool bar was super fun, but only had 1 bartender and it seemed to be the busiest bar in the place during the day...give the poor guy some help.

We had a great time...took the bus for $1 to La Islas to swim with sharks and sea lions and to the flea markets to buy silver. The hotel is down the strip away so it's quiet but by Adventure Bay and the marina where there are fun excursions including the jet boats which we want to do next time and by the Pirate dinner cruise which we saw go by every night and never tried.
The adult pool was nice and you didn't need a towel card to get a towel. Staff was always cleaning. Just be careful of the wet floors in the hotel and in the rooms if you bathe or shower and walk out with wet feet. Ceramic floors will cause that.
We had so much fun we wanted to stay an extra night but the hotel was sold out. I verified this through a reservation system too.
Some people complain that the beach was too rocky...there are rocks and stairs on the beach area (part of it) but the sand is smooth and there is a big designated beach area with chairs.

Tip: For those Americans who have never traveled to Mexico, their level of service is not what we are used to in the US. They are more relaxed about problems when they arise and they may seem like they don't want to be bothered, but it's just the culture in general I have noticed. Not a bad thing, just different so don't expect them to roll out the red carpet if you have an issue and make things right like the Americans do. I went in 2003 and had issues with the hotel not getting our room keys available until 3 days in to the trip (not at this hotel) and I asked for a discount on the hotel rate. The concept was literally foreign to the staff. So, just be aware that it's a different culture and more relaxed.

Room Tip: Corner suites...villas on third floor ocean view or high floor on side over the restaurants not the...

We stayed from 25 March to 31 March, our over-all experience was great, the staff were friendly from the moment we arrived. The lobby was excellent, fully lit and spacious. A variety of choices on food even for "picky" eaters like my wife, options where to eat was a bonus especially Krystal Restaurant. Cleanliness on the hotel facilities were well taken cared of. We enjoyed the nightly shows and service of waiters were superb. The Beach and Pool area offered a great place to relax while enjoying the sun. The only minor gripes are the room finishes and furniture which were not that impressive , it is showing signs of early deterioration (i.e. paint & cracks on the wall, sink "trapper" not working, light busted by the shower area, door jamb wood chipping,etc.d). However, we would still recommend and come back for the experience.

Room Tip: Avoid the left wing facing the pool area where the nightly shows are being held.

Just returned from a week stay with my daughter. The property is beautiful and very clean.
We had a room on the 10th floor with a beautiful view. Only drawback was club was below us and you can hear the shows going on if you're in the room at that time. They do end around
11:00 so it's not too late. Negatives of room are lack of privacy because there are no doors,
and the decor is a little Miami Vice like, it was very clean and comfortable enough.
The staff are all wonderful and you will meet some lovely people who really seem to enjoy their jobs and make you feel very welcome. I really am a fan of the all inclusive except for the
dinner part of it, would much rather go out for that. Had a dinner in a few of the restaurants, they were OK.
My daughter and I took an art class with Susanna in the Art Studio. She is a talented artist and
she helped us as we painted our own masterpieces. It was fun and we got to create a nice memory. It doesn't take very long and it's fun and not expensive. The ferry to Isla Mujeres is a two minute walk from the hotel $20 round trip. Rent a golf cart and explore the island, just remember to bring your drivers license.

I would not rate this hotel a 5 star - but it is a wonderful place and I highly recommend it.
