We had a few days available for a quick getaway from Dallas, and the main criteria were quiet for me to read, a beach/pool for my wife and all inclusive so she didn't have to shop or cook.
The Tratoria Restaurant had just opened and was excellent in every way, with nothing ever to fault...great service and food.
A very comprehensive breakfast buffet was open early till late, and the food was always good
The swim up bar got more use than may have been wise, but who defines "wise" anyway?
Wendy, at check in was very helpful and moved us from a room at the front of the property to a quieter one in the middle and for a value for money getaway, it was above expectations..

Thanks guys...see you again soon without doubt....

We stayed at the Royal Cancun for 4 days in June 2014. It is a gorgeous resort, well-maintained and clean. The rooms far exceeded our expectations in terms of size. We had beautiful views of the resort and sea. We did the all-inclusive and I was expecting a buffet every night as I've experienced at other all-inclusive resorts. I was pleased to see that we had so many restaurants to choose from - they all provided a great variety of dishes, they were all good portions and of excellent quality. My favourite - Hacienda Sisal at the Royal Sands. We loved the variety of being able to spend time at the other Royal resorts.
Just 1 negative that I would like to mention. Even though this is an all inclusive resort and you wear a bracelet indicating your status as such, there is a constant need to provide your room card and you are presented with a bill each time you order a meal or drink. This creates a huge expectation for a tip each time - even if you order 1 bottle of water. Perhaps the resort should relook at this and if possible, you can tip at checkout if you have received good service throughout your stay.
Other than this 1 point, the Royal group of hotels is excellent.

I stayed at the Royal Cancun for three days with my family. We were surprised as soon as we entered the room as it is very spacious and clean. The hotel is very well maintained, and even tough it is not new it doesn't fell old.
We had an All-Inclusive plan and enjoyed dining at the hotel restaurants and also other restaurants like Captains Cove and Hacienda Sisal that are also included. Both were great.
Something that characterized this hotel is the friendliness of the staff.
The sea i very calm, there are no waves and you can walk into the sea and it feels like a pool. the water is clear and the sand very soft.

This is a 4.99 rating. Generally, we were extremely pleased with our stay (which ended on June 19). The resort’s reputation for being extremely clean is well earned. While the furnishings are a little dated, who cares?!? We stayed in 1521, well worth the modest upgrade fee for the ocean view. This was an end unit on the middle floor, yet we never heard people above or below us (nor anyone walking past our front door). The unit was sufficiently large for our family of four (including two teenagers) with dive gear. The bed was too soft for me, but it was just right for my wife. The a/c was a little loud, but we enjoyed the “white noise”. What we didn’t enjoy is the noise it made in the middle of the night when it switched on – that was loud enough to wake us (we finally turned the temp down far enough that it always stayed on – problem solved!). The wifi was not strong enough to stay connected; but, I was able to get a good signal in the lobby.

Do remember to pack enough shampoo, conditioner, etc (or pay twice as much in Cancun).

The all-inclusive (aka “Refine” package) worked out well. The service was reasonable, as was the food. Neither was five-star, but the price wasn’t either. It was worthwhile to treat/tip the servers well; it did speed up and/or improve the quality of service/drinks. DO NOT pass up on Captain’s Cove and Hacienda Sisal (they’re included in the Refine package); the food at these restaurants was significantly better than La Palapa.

The beach was very clean and well maintained. We chose this resort over the other Royals mainly due to the fact that we could actually swim in the ocean at this location (generally ocean swimming is prohibited at the resorts along the eastern/southern part of the hotel zone because of the currents). Our kids spent several hours snorkeling off of the pier and found sting rays, crab, shrimp, and a variety of fish.

If you’re new to Cancun, don’t be intimidated by “the water”, local transportation, shopping, foreign language, etc. The water at the Royal Cancun was fine (as was the ice, fruit and veggies at La Buena Vida restaurant in Akumar, which I highly recommend). Around town, the buses are cheap and easy to master. Go to Market 28 and have fun haggling (and definitely shop around – it’s amazing how prices can vary). Don’t bother with Walmart – their prices were higher than in Southern California for the same stuff. In fact, the one thing that surprised us was how expensive everything was in Cancun. Maybe that’s why I saw Ferrari, MB and Porsche dealerships on the way to Tulum.

BTW, if you’re a diver, please read my review on Scuba Cancun.

While I generally won’t visit the same place/town twice, I am telling all my friends to seriously consider the Royal Cancun if they’re heading to the Yucatán – it’s definitely worthy of its high TA ranking!

Room Tip: We were very pleased with 1521: well located, quiet and a great ocean view!

I stayed here with my daughter and my grandkids. The resort was immaculate in terms of cleanliness including the room, which was a 2 story 2 bath and was absolutely beautiful. We did the all inclusive and was very impressed with the quality of food. My 3 grandkids, 12, 9, and 7 loved all the choices and especially room service! The beach is nice but the water is very low and great for little ones or people who don't swim much. We did goto 2 of their sister resorts and enjoyed all of the amenities. The price of this resort was great deal especially for all inclusive. I plan on returning next year but might stay at the sister resort, Royal Hacienda, which has a better beach, but not as many food options.

Room Tip: Any location is great

Been coming here for 30 years. The place is kept up to date and clean. The hotel faces Isla Mujeres and as such does not have the waves or the undertow of the blue water beaches. The two restaurants on site, one Italian and one with the buffet are both good, we prefer the Italian for dinner. The staff in every area is exceptional. We will return here again and agian.

This is our 3rd time traded into this resort. It is very charming hacienda style setting. It's a smaller resort compared to others in the area, but it's upkeep and rooms are in tip-top shape. It's one of the original timeshares in the hotel zone, but the staff there are keeping the place up like new.
They employ a cashless system--just like on the cruise ships. Your room key is your charge card, leave your passport and credit cards in your in-room safe if you plan to dine around in their network of restaurants. You can eat at any of the restaurants within the WHOLE Royal Resorts and tap your room key to pay. I do recommend Captain's Cove, great food and drinks, plus a good discount for Royal Resort guests.

Friendly and professional staff--specially mentioned Ariel! Thank you for all the tips provided during our stay.

We haven't encountered any problems during our stays, and this place is not for the young partying people--there's a special section in their 'rule book' about spring break and excess noise and partying, to guest bringing 'visitors'.

But this maybe the last time we are staying at this resort, because they are going into all-inclusive mandatory. We are not heavy eaters and drinkers, so all-inclusive is not our style, plus, we like to go explore restaurants outside the hotel. Also, we noticed the wait staff's attitude changed during this stay, especially at the La Palapa. One night, we had to ask the waiter 3 times to get a water, and then had to ask a few times to bring the check--the waiter didn't get his tip for sure!

Another complain I have is that the boats are getting closer to the swim area--and there are several 'party' boats go by. One night a party boat passed by around midnight with music blaring and came back around 2am... We had one of the ocean front units, the windows are not thick enough to filter the noise.
