“Good stay BUT MONEY STOLEN from hotel room”
Reviewed 10 June 2012

Beautiful hotel but had money stolen from our hotel room. Left my wallet in a drawer rather than the safe for 2 hours and every penny was stolen (about $200 USD). Hotel manager was useless and very unwilling to help at all. Food was tasty but made my wife sick (or could have been the water). Find Jair from Olymus tours in the lobby for all your fun activities - he was wonderful. Had very nice massage in the hotel too.

Me and my daughter stayed here between 14-21May2012...fantastic location, nightlife 5 min walk...found food great with varied eating options, including a la carte restaurants...room was large and very clean, but in need of some upgrading....service everywhere was fantastic and never had to wait on service, drinks just kept coming...pools very clean and although beach was small it done the job...would suit all ages who want a central location and great service...coco bongos is a must for anyone who hasnt been, we had a great night there..we also swam with the dolphins at Isla Mujheras which was a great day out, and good value...would return again...

Room Tip: worth paying for sea view and request high floor

Stayed on 19.5.12 to 30.5.12.
Positives:-
Spacious suites kept clean, free beach towels, staff through out the hotel happy, friendly and work SO HARD,location, waiters come round pool/beach frequently with drinks, service at meal times very efficient, make use of the facilities at the new RIU Peninsular (3 minutes on bus),drinks in fridge in room, beautiful grounds, lobby area, beach and pools.extensive choice of food in buffet area.
Negatives:-
Both me and my Husband ended up with what we though "holiday stomachs",but after reading lots of other customer comments it could have been caused by parasites found in the water/food/work services. To a degree it did spoil my holiday.
The room doors are really thick/heavy (great to stop people breaking in your room),but really loud through out the night when people coming in.
When we visited the Jumpoff was on,so people were drunk outside our door (at 6pm!!!),lots of rude people screaming/shouting/music on balconys all night.
Beds are really hard!!!.(for me to comment on this they were!!).
Fridge in room noisy motor (you can switch it off inside).
We visited the "Tio Pepe" Restaurant on 2nd night (i would rate it 2 out of 10) and i am not a fussy/picky eater ( it closed 2 days later).
We did not visit any others due to us having stomach upsets.(we did hear the Krystal was really good).

Recommended Trips (we booked at a outlet next to the riu cancun 2 mins from hotel - much cheaper than rep,i was a bit cheeky and asked for discount which i got):-

Captain Hook Pirate Ship (not a booze cruise) fab night out!!!
Isle Mujures - beautiful island 30 mins away on the ferry from next to the new RIU Peninsular (£10 each return).
Xcaret - stunning eco park,loads of animals/wildlife,beaches,shows.

Tips:-
When checking in ask for a higher floor (it will be less noisy)
Use local buses 30p and every few seconds.
If using taxi's agree price before you get in.
When you arrive at Cancun, prepare to queue for immigration it took us 1 hour.
Even though it can be cloudy you will burn!!.

Wishing you all a fun and happy holiday in Mexico

Wishing you a fun and happy time.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor (with sea view if any free)

Just came back from 2 weeks in this hotel. Couldnt fault it, it was amazing. Food as non stop even a restaurant open from 11pm till 7am!!!! even had excellent pool service by the waiters. Wilbert in particular kept on filling up our drinks without being even asked!!!!!!!!! The rooms ware cleaned to high standards every day and the hotel was amazing. even watched a few weddings whilst out there. If you want a fantastic hoilday holiday with a amazing hotel well book this one.would have loved another week out there!!!!!!!!! even entertainment was the only thing we were a little unhappy with as it didnt start till 9.45pm most people we spoke too also said it was too late.

Room Tip: some rooms dont look over the sea but we were upgraded so we were lucky. low floors have great view...

We stayed at the Riu Palace from 4th May until 18th May as a group of 15. I have to say that this hotel was by far the best hotel that I have ever stayed in. The hotel was spotless and was getting cleaned 24/7, the rooms were made every day and the drinks were flowing constantly by the pool. The waiters were faultless. As for the food I don't know what these other reviewers are smoking who have commented negatively as the food was the best I have EVER tasted in my life. There was so much choice in the buffet restaurant which was by far the best out of all the restaurants. There was so much choice with drinks too. A few of our guests got upset tummys but this always happens to us no matter where we go on holiday.
My husband and I also got married out here on the beach which was amazing. Jose the wedding co ordinator did a fantastic job. There was plenty of choice for flowers and I opted for tropical flowers which were absolutely amazing. We had a semi private dinner in the Steak House which they had done out a whole section for us and it looked fantastic. Arlene the hotel photographer also took our wedding photos which came out amazing, you should definately get a photo shoot with her whilst there.
This was by the far the best holiday that I have ever been on and i would go back in a heartbeat. In fact I could quite happily live in this hotel!
Enough said

Unfortunately, our trip from 5/27 - 6/3 was scarred by sickness throughout the resort. Our entire family got sick within days of each other. 9 year old daughter sick within 2 days of arriving. Her friend who we met from England, sick 1 day previous. Adult parents of friend sick within 1 day of their daughter. My husband became ill 2 days after daughter, and I became sick on the last day. What was it? A parasite likely from the water. At first I thought it might be a virus sweeping through because I kid you not, we talked to at least 15 - 20 other couples and families around the pool experiencing the same problems. Most of them were from overseas so they were there for about 2 weeks, and either had already had it, or were having it at that time. (Horrible stomach issues.) Upon coming home, samples proved a parasite. It can be from water, surfaces, food, or, get this-- pool water. I suspect the pool. Everyone was in it, I never smelled Chlorine. Even though this particular parasite indicates being resistant to chlorine. But still, people infected should NOT SWIM. Thus, think about it, everyone is still swimming- infecting new people. If you ahve been here and were ill with stomach issues, please, get tested and get the proper medication upon being home. Resort doctor (next door at regular RIU) diagnosed friends with gastroenteritis and gave an antibiotic. Please consult your own doctor upon getting home!

It is very hard to have enjoyable things to say about a place that appears to be clean with folks constantly mopping and wiping down walls, dusting, etc- when you all come down ill while on vacation.

Therefore, yes the hotel was lovely, the buffet and steakhouse were both good and had variety, but even though we drank bottled water the whole time and brushed our teeth with the bottled water as well, we all got sick. I am planning a note to the government health organization, if I can find one, or at least Cancun government. Sadly, I don't forsee controls on the pool water if everyone who is sick keeps swimming, and touching surfaces (silverware, glasses, etc) it actually makes me sick to think about the process of contracting this.

Room Tip: We had a Jr. Suite Ocean View. We could still hear some music at night during the shows, but with do...

Check in- Speedy with polite staff.
Room- Musty smell, dark old fashioned wood, very large, fab sea views.
Staff- Entertaining staff were good fun. Bar staff served you quickly.
Location- Hotel zone. Could hop on a bus to main nightlife. Across the road from shopping mall.
Food- Buffet, nothing special. The Japanese restaurant was beautiful. Steak House nothing to write home about. All included in the price you pay for your holiday, no cover charges. Had to book 2 days previous at reception-queues could get tedious.
Spa- Wonderful couples beach massage.
Overall experience- 7/10

Mexico is our favourite holiday destination. Had a great time, but the Royal Cancun and the El Dorado's in Riviera Maya beat this place hands down!!

Room Tip: Request a sea view
