“Extremely affordable hotel”

Compared to the rest of the hotels in Cancun this one is a bargain! Good location, nice gardens, free breakfast, pool and restaurant onsite. The only downside is it's not on a beach.
If you're looking for a budget option this is definitely the way to go as there are no backpackers/hostels in the hotel zone.

The location is not bad, the rooms are adequate however, the only area with AC is your room! The restaurant was poorly staffed. The breakfast was not bad but I would rather eat outside. The pool was dirty and needs some work, the pool area was messy and they need new chairs and tables as well as towels. The front desk seemed nice but nobody made an effort to help or make you feel welcomed. The first room they assigned was not good at all, nothing worked, so they had to give us another room. The mosquitoes are a huge problem. Due to all the vegetation around the buildings, there are many, many, many mosquitoes and in the two days that we were there, I never saw anyone spraying DDT. Thanks to the white walls, we were able to see them and kill them with a towel but they just kept coming! I will not stay here ever again, the price is right but the hotel is not. I rather pay extra and have a pleasant stay than save money and be miserable during my vacation!

This hotel is by far the worst I've ever stayed at. As soon as we came in we were greeted by two gloomy faces who were to occupied with handling some papers and one at a computer to even look us in the eye for 5 minutes. There were no other guests at the sets taking their attention, just other work that seemed to be more important than greeting new guests.

The room smelled like bathroom upon entering and it has the feeling of the inside of a white painted cave. All lights were horrible white with a hospital like glow.

Without ventilation in the bathroom the smell turned even worse after showering.

We overslept 3 minutes and arrived to the breakfast at 10:05 and it closes at 10:00. After talking to the manager it was impossible to get two plates of anything without paying. Extremely bad customer service.

LUCKILY we only stayed one night and after not receiving the included breakfast we stormed out. I wanted to wright a review here so that no one else makes the mistake of staying in these piss-drenched rooms but the wifi in the lobby is virtually non-existent.

The hotel is far away from the beaches, the nightlife, downtown Cancun (you have to take a bus). The swimming pool was dirty, and there was no sun around it, the only way to be at the sun was to go on the grass. No shower available in the swimming pool area, we had to go to the room. The room smelled bad, as though it hadn't been opened for a long time, no wifi in the room. The breakfast was ok although nothing wow. The restaurant is good and cheap, but the people working in the restaurant was antipathic, the people at the desk were helpfull and agreeable.
I guess the hotel used to be great 20 years ago, but now it has to be renovated, and it doesn't deserve 3 stars at all.

We stayed at the Sotavento two nights when we were in between two resort reservations in early March, 2014. The price is right, and it was an okay place to unwind for a couple of days. The gardens and pool are as nice as other reviews say. We also enjoyed the restaurant for most of our meals. Food is okay, and very reasonable prices. We especially liked the paella (feature of the house). About $10 US, and big enough to split with my wife. The following week, while staying at the up-scale Royal Cancun a few blocks away, we walked a couple of family members back to the Sotavento for the paella and fish tacos. All our impressions were good.

One exciting afternoon our pre-dinner margaritas were interrupted by a sudden tropical thunder storm which erupted into horizontal rain blowing through the open-sided restaurant. Along with the few other guests we cowered as far down wind as we could get, but it was losing battle with the water. The giggling waiters draped fresh table cloths across our shoulders to give us at least a hint of protection, and we all giggled together for about 8 minutes, when the rain snapped off as fast as it had hit. The rapid appearance of huge mops and long rubber squeegees at work showed that this was not an unusual occurrence. Afterward, changing into dry clothes, we had the feeling we had been treated to a Somerset Maugham vignette.

Had no insect problems, probable because of the steady wind most of the time. The yacht club aspect is interesting, with several million dollar fishing yachts moored stern-to right next to the down scale restaurant, with exotic hailing ports like Wilmington, Delaware, and Bridgeport, Connecticut, and a steady traffic of interesting people coming and going from/to them - occasional taking over a corner of the restaurant for wine tasting bouts.

The rooms are clean and adequate but the overall impression is more of interesting potential rather than idle luxury..

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the pool and restaurant, where the action is. We were just a few doors away, an...

Well I thought this was a great mid range hotel. Cancun doesn't have a center as such so you need to take a bus or taxi anywhere, it's too vast to walk anywhere. The hotel is near the ferry station and a couple of pirate them restaurants but get the bus or a cab to restaurants and places dotted around. Cancun isn't my favourite place to be honest - it is very bitty and I think it's fine if you are based and want a nice hotel resort/spa stay. So this place is mid range however the pool is fine, there are safety boxes, the staff are on the whole friendly, breakfast is basic but nice, the rooms are big and very clean.I liked it here as I wasn't in cancun for a big holiday just a few days at the end of a trip. It did get a bit noisy at nights so they should try and keep the noise down, and the wifi is a bit up and down but on the whole I found this place cosy, clean and comfortable, it was what I was looking for.
