“Elberth in the tequila bar lounge”
Reviewed 7 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the grand oasis palm for about a week and the hotel/room service was mediocre at best. The buffet food is quite terrible and they try too hard to make traditional American food when all we really wanted were some tacos. Too many cold hot dogs and hamburgers and soggy fries. It was a little confusing and frustrating at first to make reservations to the nicer restaurants but we quickly realized that was the only way to get decent food. The highlight of our stay in the hotel was when we found the tequila bar/lounge in the grand side. Elberth is hands down the best bartender we encountered in Mexico and carefully creates every drink ensuring it is perfect before he serves them. He had a few awesome cocktails and shooters that were his own creations and were incredible. His service went above and beyond expectations and really made our trip much more enjoyable knowing we had a friendly face we could count on seeing in the bar near the lobby. His great customer service was much appreciated. Go see him and ask for the "elberth" special shooter of coffee and banana. Cafe y platano. I'm not a fan of coffee but the shooter he made was incredible.

While the Oasis Plam was nice and we had a good time, it wasn't the hotel we booked for/in. After a flight and customs from hell we arrived at Grand Oasis only to find out they were overbooked. We had made our reservations in Feb. and travelled in Apr. So they sent us to their sister hotel up 'the strip'. We purposely booked the flight we did because we wanted to get into our room early to enjoy the afternoon and eveing; needless to say we didn't get to do that so we lost half a day! We purposely booked the Grand Oasis because it is adults only and the Oasis Palm is a family resort. Don't get me wrong; we love kids ( we have 4 lovely granddaughters ) but we didn't want them running around all over the place on our vacation! We were treated well and we did our best to stay away from the children ( they were mostly at the pools.) but it wasn't what we wanted.

Room Tip: Rooms on the pool side are noisiest.

Just returned from three nights at the Grand Oasis Palm. Overall we had a lovely stay, but have some mixed feelings on a few things.

First the good:

Check in was very good, we did have to "wait" our turn as we had to check in at the back of the lobby instead of at the normal desk (for some reason I am not completely sure of) and the 2 desks back here were full. So we had to wait about 10 minutes for an agent to open up.

We had room 1916. Room was spacious with large bathroom and King bed. Balcony as well. Room did overlook lagoon behind hotel, not the pool or ocean. Had nice table with 2 chairs. Upon arrival they had left a welcome gift of chocolate covered strawberry's as we booked this trip from my husbands birthday.

Overall hotel grounds were nice and clean. As a "grand" stay, we had use of both the Grand side and regular side of hotel, so many choices. Two nice pools, numerous restaurants and bars. Hotel was large enough to be a nice resort, without being too spread out.

Service in the restaurants was OUTSTANDING! Everyone in every restaurant was friendly and meet or exceeded every need we had - even the buffets. The bars were pretty good too. Bar tenders not as friendly as wait staff. Front desk, could really use some customer service lessons though. They were the least friendly people in the place, and as front desk help you would think they should be some of the friendliest since their job requires constant interaction with customers.

Food overall was "average" ate at sit down and buffet restaurants, as well as beach grill. Nothing was exceptional - but there was plenty to eat all day, and it was pretty good, just not great. Best Buffet in my opinion was Las Palmas on grand side. Had fewer choices than the regular side buffet (Dos Lunas), but food seemed better made and more high end as far as options. Las Palmas we also good for dinner, they had the brazilin style meet offerings where they come around with meet on skewers and carve it off right at table. Had lunch as Aires del Norte (steak place) and dinner here, both again were OK, better than buffet, but still not what I would call exceptional.

Now the "bad"

Had immediate maintenance issues upon arrival. Tub would not plug (the bath tube plug was completely destroyed) and one side of the room, none of the lights worked. We mentioned this to front desk when we went to dinner, and I think maintenance was sent and bulbs replaced as they worked when we returned. Tub was never fixed.

Main service was the worst! Our first day we had gone out all day and came back to room at 3:00 and room still had not been cleaned. We called and asked for some clean towels, and told them to skip cleaning. Two hours later, at 5:00pm, we called and asked for towels again so we could shower for dinner, which then were delivered in about 10 minutes. At 5:30pm, when we were getting ready to go to dinner, housekeeping came and knocked on our door and was ready to clean our room... we told them to forget it! Second day, we returned to room about 2pm, and it had kind of been cleaned, towels were replaced, but bed was stripped. Again about 4:30pm, we got a knock on the door and they finally had clean bedding to make our bed. Room service really needs to step it up a notch.

Bar service by the pool or on the beach did not Exist! We never once had anyone offer to bring us a drink, never even saw a bar tender, even on the Grand side. Which also brings me to my next point. I tried five different drinks (pina colada, strawberry daiquiri, margarita, a mango drink, and a Kahlua and cream) and they were all AWEFUL! The liquor was low grade, and tasted like grain alcohol. Even the Kahula was a cheap knock off... really? Can't get real Kahlua in Cancun? I just stopped drinking period.

It rained while we were there and several of the restaurants were closed that should have been open. This limited our dinning options and we didn't get to take advantage of things that otherwise we would have.

As others have mentioned, rooms can be noisy from rooms next door and hallways. The sounds travel VERY easy in this place and if it wasn't for ear plugs I would not have been able to sleep at all. There are people coming at all hours of the night and doors slamming and yelling. All the way up to 3:30am.

Beds are firm, but Ok. I slept pretty good even though my back did feel it a bit.

We did snorkel on beach area, all of which is VERY shallow. Like waist to chest high. However, I was able to see some great stuff... we had our own gear and found that if you went to the areas with the sea grass, you could find some life!

All in all, I would rate this hotel average. I am not sure I would return here again, unless it was a really smoking hot deal.

ive been to the oasis palm 3 times before and everything was usually pretty good but my stay from 5/8/14 to 5/13/14 was terrible. Where shall we start ??? little or no air conditioning in public areas on 86 degree days food old stale one large buffet style restaurant closed and all the people waiting in long lines to go to the other one until 10pm when they closed at 1030. the room was dusty the floor in the room was sticky and i had to call housekeeping almost every day for fresh towels. you couldnt get a drink after 1 am and you had to walk far to the cantina bar to get that. no more ice machines in the halls you had to call the operator and face a long wait for ice. the hotel wasnt more than 40% full but the pool never had enough lounges. i will never return there. the only positive thing i have to say were that the front desk was very helpful especially when Kayla was on duty. I dont reccommend it to anyone altho its my 3rd visit it must be under new management because the other times were good.

Room Tip: I preferred rooms facing the lagoon with a terrace

When looking through hotels options in Cancun, make sure you give Grand Oasis Palm a chance. This hotel is one of the most affordable in the area. Their beach is great because is really quiet and clean. Their food is fabulous and you have many options. If you stay here, you MUST eat at La Bamba, their food is delicious, please try the shrimp ceviche with avocado... absolutely wonderful!!! Our favorite breakfast was at Las Palmas, convenient, healthy and right by the elevator. The only thing I would’ve changed was our room view, I would love to have a beach view. Another great convenience of this hotel is that is right next to the port where Ferry takes off to Isla Mujeres, it’s within walking distance.
On a side note, I highly suggest you to rent a car; it’s not as expensive as paying for cabs to go from A-B. I already booked our next visit to the Grand Oasis Palm for July, we first visited as a couple and now we’re bringing 5 other people with us. Cancun rocks!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a Lower Floor, elevators take way too long, there are only 2

Took a vacation with 3 girlfriends in late March 2014. There were only dbl beds no queen beds available. Our room was adequate, clean and quiet on 5th floor- no noise problems. We were on the beach by 7am with coffee in hand each morning and the weather was beautiful all 5 days. The coffee was great with the steamed leche and breakfast buffets were plentiful. By 10am waiters came to take orders for cold drinks. We really enjoyed the Sushi place but seating is limited so expect some waiting. The evening buffets were adequate, no complaints as there was enough variety. The beach was clean and it wasn't very crowded for being spring break season probably due to the location being on the north end of the hotel zone and it's was more family oriented. Highly recommend a full day trip to Isle Murajes--had a blast riding the golf carts and shopping. You can jump on a ferry right across the bridge walking distance and the singers on the ferry made it fun. The Tequila Lounge had a very mediocre 3 pc lounge band but we made it fun. The disco bar was a little too cosmo for us--bright neon lights and shiny mirrors. Wished there would've been a place to dance to some fun music in a more casual setting but unfortunately there wasn't at this resort. Having access to the other Oasis resorts is a nice benefit. Most staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, this was a perfectly fine place for the price we paid and would stay again.

Room Tip: This resort didn't have room balconies and our windows didn't open. It looked like there we...
