“Stylish place with a beautiful garden”
Reviewed 24 December 2013

This is an elegant hotel within walking distance to the archaeological site. Compared to the hulking building of the Mayaland Resort, which is right next to the site's entrance, it has a more secluded and intimate ambience.
I personally found that the cottage, while certainly comfortable and well-appointed, did not quite justify the high rate - other hotel rooms on my trip for about half the price were comparable. It was rather the spacious and serene garden with its variety of exotic plants, large trees and birdlife which made the stay memorable for me. There is a lot to explore for botany friends. To use the Hacienda Chichen solely for an overnight stay and a visit to the archaelogical site would be missing out on something.
Overlooking one part of the garden is a patio, which is used as a restaurant serving very tasty meals.

My wife and I live in the Yucatan and if we travel it often is with our two pets-a Bichon and German Shepherd. Some years ago we heard that the Hacienda had a pet friendly policy so we gave it a try. We were welcomed with open arms and had a great time. So since then we have made two more mini vacations staying at the Hacienda. The staff is great, the rooms very comfortable and the restaurant is excellent. I might add the location can't be beat if you want to visit the ruins since you are next door to the site which makes it easy to go in right when they open and the crowds have not arrived.

We had three nights at Hacienda Chichen and loved it!
The rooms are in cottages scattered throughout the extensive, beautiful gardens and ours was great and spotlessly clean.
As a keen bird watcher, the gardens alone gave me ample scope to see a wide variety of birds and the local guide I employed via the hotel was both helpful and knowledgable.
We ate both breakfast and lunch at the hotel and cuisine was excellent throughout with the chefs growing a lot of their own vegetables etc.
Food is Mexican in style though there was enough on the menus to suit the unadventurous.
Staff were friendly, helpful and it felt like staying with a family it was so personal.
My only minor gripe was that the lovely pool was not heated and so was just too cold.
This was reflected by the fact that there were hardly any other guests using it in our three days.
My wife and daughter both had spa treatments and my wife said it was the best massage she had anywhere.
The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the rear entrance to Chichen Itza allowing you to get there before all the tour buses.
If you do not want Chichen Itza to be a whistlestop tour and want somewhere authentic and delightful to stay, stay here!

After a pretty frustrating experience at Cancun airport caused by queues at mitigation and then a drive to Chichen Itza in a torrential downpour the Hacienda was a such a wonderful oasis of calm and class! We were warmly welcomed and also upgraded to a room with a king size bed from a double. The hotel wasn't full which also meant we were able to dine on the delightful balcony despite arriving after most other guests were seated. The room was large and simply, yet attractively furnished, with everything you could possibly need. Dinner was very good as was breakfast and the ten minute walk to the Chichen Itza site at 8am made this a real highlight of our first trip to Mexico. It meant we were able to cover most of the site before the throngs arrived.

Room Tip: We had booked a honeymoon room but were upgraded to a junior suite with king size bed. It was very c...

The hacienda dates back to 1523 with wonderful porches, a very nice pool, beautiful gardens and nice air-conditioned cottages. The place is 1/4 mile from an entrance to Chichen Itza ruins, so it is very convenient to the iconic ruins. The food is pretty good and all organic. Very nice people.

we stayed here 2 nights at the start of our trip round Yukatan. It's idea for getting into the site before the crowds arrive - and that is well worth doing as by 11 o'clock the coaches arrive and chichen itza is heaving. We enjoyed a walk around the grounds (which are surprisingly extensive beyond the garden), and had a local guide for an early walk to look at the flora and fauna - Bibiano was an excellent guide, welcoming and informative about all sorts of things from his personal history with the site to the medicinal properties of the plants and the bird calls.
The food was very nice, and the service excellent. Our cabin was charming. Shame we didn't stay long enough to make use of the spa facilities.

Fascinating building, relaxing garden and as the 'hacienda' is so popular with tour groups (staying overnight), it's easy to claim its nice pool for your own. By the way, these tour groups choose this place for some obvious reasons: 5 minute walk from the picture-perfect Chichen Itza grounds, relaxing houses in a perfect 'jungle' garden and friendly service.

Beds were okay, staff very friendly and nice showers.

The downside of it's excellent location is that you must use it's restaurant. Okay, the food's tasty and in particular the breakfast and the starters are recommended. The presentation of the food is 'gourmet', but in my opinion its overpriced for what it is.
