“Excellent choice when visiting Chichen Itza”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

Excellent location just 5 minutes from Chichen Itza means you can get there before the crowds but without a crack of dawn start! The roadside location was initially offputting, but there was little noise and none once the tour coaches had all left Chichen! Rooms are simple, but ckean, and two pools make it the best choice when visting Chicen.

Nice place, beside busy road but where isn't in Mexico, nice pool, helpful staff. One let down was organised transport to Chichen Itza, staff said free bus at 8.00 in morning. This was the reason we stayed here to be close to the site to beat the crowds. In morn we told bus at 8.30. Meanwhile there hotel bus went to the Chichen site with paying guests to drop off at local bus stop beside entrance to site, bus was not full. Very frustrating, flagged a Combi down got there for 10 peso each.

Hotel has two pools and is close to cenotes. Very friendly staff who even took us for free to the ruins as it is about 3 km far from the hotel. They also provide really nice breakfast which is included. Rooms were simple, clean and comfortable with TV. Staff does not speak much English so a bit tricky to communicate as we didn't speak much Spanish. Overall nice stay, good value for the money.

Room Tip: There are like bungalowes all in one line facing the main road so not much chioce.

We were planning to go to Chichen Itza the next day and had not booked a room yet. The concierge at the B&B we were staying at was very helpful, and made phone calls to find us a room in Valladolid. All in our price range were booked, so he found us a room at Dolores Alba. Initially, we were disappointed that the hotel was right on the main road and rather noisy with traffic, but it did slow down at night. The rooms are in a long row. They have the appearance of an American roadside motel from the 1960's. Inside, our room was pretty basic. The bathroom was basic too, and only rather worn bath towels were provided. (no hand towels)

The grounds were very nice, with two pools and some pretty vegetation. Ik Kil cenote is right across the street, and Dolores Alba provides discount tickets, with something like $.50 US off. If you are staying at Dolores Alba it is easy to walk across the street around 9:30 or 10.00 in the morning and avoid the tour group crowds.

The dining area was nice as well, but the food could have been better. The first night there we were tired and didn't feel like driving into Piste, so we ate at Dolores Alba. My husband's steak was extremely grisly, and he couldn't eat it. To the establishment's credit, they did take it back and made something else for him with no problem. The food at breakfast was a better, but service the first morning we were there was very slow. There were a lot of guests, and the waiters had difficulty keeping track of who had been served and who hadn't.

The hotel did not provide purified water for the guests. We stayed in ten different places on our Mexican holiday, and Dolores Alba was the only establishment that charged the customers for purified water, and that includes 2 hostels that we stayed at. This would have been fine if the price was right, but other than an all-inclusive that we stayed at on Cozumel, Dolores Alba was the priciest establishment.

Our group visited Chichen Itza ruins and after several hours found ourselves in need of quiet and rest. We "bumped" into this hotel on the road, checked out the rooms and reserved two for the night. The rooms are clean with sturdy wood furniture, decent mattresses, workable toilets and lovely surroundings. The prices are very fair and the staff very friendly and helpful. Check it out next time you're in the jungle!

This is a cute hotel with nice little rooms that look like bungalows but are attached. The rooms are well decorated and tasteful. Beds are comfy with nice linens. Hot water. We were so happy that the 3 of us had two nights here. The breakfasts were quite adequate and tasty. Dinner was quite adequate. Staff was friendly and helpful. It's a short distance into town where you can get a lovely meal at Las Mestizos. The pools are clean and the limestone formed one is really fun.

Room Tip: They are all good rooms as they are back from the road and quiet.
