“When in Chichen Itza, an impressive mid range option”
Reviewed 9 November 2013

Shrewd cyber bookers can get an $88 usd rate for an excellent room at the Lodge, solid 4 star luxury and for those monolingual guest, no stress at all. $3 usd for an espresso in a paper cup
is of course pushing it, but the grounds and the accommodations are swell. We did not try any bar or restaurant service, frankly we prefer to eat locally and found a perfect place 15 minutes out of town on the right side on la LIBRE called LA TIA, towards Valladolid, but maybe 10 - 12 km.
The hotel's history itself is interesting, this is a 3rd generation, well-managed enterprise and I can recommend it to anyone of all ages, if your budget permits, you may spend hundreds for a luxury bungalow with pool, or under $90 usd for a balcony suite quality room with jacuzzi.

Only drawback, no wifi in rooms, only in lobby, bar and cafeteria area, but that was no issue.

The hotel is located right on the grounds of Chichen Itza. You get private entrance to the archeological park just a few feet from your hotel. But believe it or not, that's not even the best part of this hotel. The Mayaland resort is spectacular with incredible food, beautifully landscaped grounds, wonderful rooms, and an excellent staff. It's luxury at it's best. I had a really hard time leaving this place to return home.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, spring for the bungalow. It's more private and there's a pool for eve...

This resort blew my mind. I have to admit that I love relaxing so if you rlooking for a party this is not the place to be. It's extremely peaceful and you truly feel at one with nature here. The service is amazing from our entry to our departure we were treated like royalty. anytime we needed anything they were there to help. The food at this place is amazing. definitely the best mexican food i've ever and cheaper than most of the restaurants I ate at in cancun. From the main dinning room you have a direct view of the observatory and the fact that you're within walking distance to chichen itza is an even bigger plus.

Room Tip: All the bungalows are amazing!!! doesn't matter which one you have it feels like you have the en...

The lodge & hotel are indeed ideally placed for the ruins and getting it to take photos with no one in them! Its proximity to such a major tourist attraction does, however, to appear to have a downside as I doubt many guests stay more than 1 or 2 nights.

We visited outside the tourist season so in the morning and evening we saw few other guests, but at lunch take room service to eat on the bungalow terrace and miss the coach loads of day trippers in the restaurants.

The grounds of the bungalows are well laid out and maintained. The rooms themselves are however, dark and austere. Our A/C rattled, an offer to have it fixed did not materialise.

Staff were friendly, but since there were so few guests they appeared to be intent on maximising revenue per head and tips. I do not need to be offered a double Marguerita at the bar, and I do not need 2 people to accompany me to my room.

An enjoyable stay but I did feel like a walking wallet in a tourist trap!

Your last remark is very offensive to our Mayan people, who go out of their way to please and are extremely serviceable, as you can appreciate from just about every other comment. The farthest from a "tourist trap" you can possibly get. Very sad comment indeed.

A fantastic start to our honeymoon and tour of the Yucatan. The bungalows were beautiful and well maintained, very peacefull location. The restaurant staff were lovely and always smiling! The quality of food here was fabulous, no complaints! The bar staff mixed some great cocktails and were very accommodating and friendly.
Lunch times there was a buffet in one of the other restuarants, which is part of the Mayaland Hotel (right next to the Lodges) and here they have tour groups for lunch and lovely traditional Mexican dancers whilst you eat - my advice is to tour Chichen Itza early (its better then anyway, cooler and before all the big tours arrive) and then lunch at the buffet early (12noon) to avoid the crowds and queues - although I did not find this too bad anyway to be honest.
Would recommend to anyone visiting Chichen Itza as the place to stay!

After speaking to others about planning to visit the ruins at Chichen Itza, we opted to stay in a nearby hotel in order to go to the ruins early in the morning before all the tour buses arrived - this was great advice and we would recommend this strategy to others.

The front desk and other service was amazing - gracious, attentive, interested. There was a turn-down service, with mosquito spray just before dusk. The facilities were outstanding - a very spacious room with jungle/colonial decor, fridge, tv, jacuzzi, front porch and hammocks as well as table and chairs. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable with mosquito netting, and very good quality linens. The bathroom was modern and clean, with excellent pressure and hot water. The food was very good as well. Given it was the rainy season, we didn't use the pool or other spa facilities but it looked clean and nice. The only challenge we had was the ATM in the hotel didn't connect with my CIBC Visa nor many of my TD Canada Trust cards - however the ATM in the park entrance building did, much to my relief. There is free wifi, but the signal is limited to the hotel lobby area.

To get to the hotel, we took the ADO bus from Cancun, with a short taxi ride to the Lodge, and spent a few hours wandering around the ruins one day. The next morning, we hired a tour guide recommended by the hotel, and had an outstanding private tour for 2.5 hours (750 pesos plus tip) starting at 8:30 am when the park opened. For the first 1.5 hours, we were practically alone with the ruins - just magical. After we checked out of the hotel, they held our bags for us while we visited the cave and the cenote nearby (less than two hours, and again, short taxi rides). We went to the Mayan Sky presentation in the planetarium at the hotel, which was worth the visit.

We stayed in a bungalow in the Percival area, after getting an excellent price online at short notice. We weren't sure what to expect other than the proximity to the ruins, and we were extremely pleased with our visit. Whatever premium price there is to be close to the ruins is well worth it.

Can't beat the location for visiting the ruins! Nice hotel, friendly staff.
Stayed in the Percival section but didn't really think was worth the extra money, the other bit looked very similar.
Massive portions in restaurant - if used to European sizes you won't need starter + main.
