We stayed at Allegro Cozumel July 28- August 8th 2013.All I can say is that the trip was not long enough ! The staff at the hotel is like our family and they do a very good job with customer service.Freddy is the best bartender on the island always doing whatever it takes to satisfy his customers.Raul in management went above and beyond one day getting my entire family special reservations for the Mexican Restaurant .We have stayed there MANY times and will return. We understand before hand that the food buffets will become mundane after several days there and that is to be expected. But the Oriental and Mexican dinners are really good. There is the occasional A/C not working properly or other minor maintenance issues but the staff always takes note and resolves the issues.I rated the property average because overall it is...but the staff brings the experience to a whole new level, this is why we always go back.

Room Tip: We are members of the first club and those rooms are much nicer, get with management and see if you c...

I liked the placed. The timeshare people were kind of annoying the first time we were there. If you just tell them, no thanks, they will leave ya alone. The night life was for an old fart like me who just likes to drink. The dive shop was the best ive been to in cozumel. we are coming back here again in 2014. I have been here # 3 times in 3 years. best value. i suggest renting a car from kayak. cheaper.

Room Tip: i always get a bottom floor room closest to the front desk. quieter.

This was our 5th trip to this resort -- and we keep going back for 2 reasons. The beach and the price. That's all we want on vacation --- and so that's why this is our favorite place to stay. We aren't big drinkers, we don't do a lot of excursions, and we are not high maintenance. We want crystal clear waters, sandy beaches, a week to unplug without spending a small fortune -- and that's what you get here. The reason you've booked this place or are looking to book this place is because of the price --- if you want Five Star accommodations, you need to pay Five Star pricing. So it may not be luxurious -- but it is a little piece of real paradise.

The place is a bit rustic, and if you are going for the rooms and the beds, this may not be your place. But if you are going to Mexico for the weather and the beach, it's pretty unbeatable, especially for the price. The water is warmer than a pool, just as clear, and just as calm. It's so safe for families with little kids to be out on the beach and not worried about big waves or undertow or murky waters. Some resorts have rocky beaches, or small beaches. This one is great - plenty of space - nobody fistfighting over getting chairs. There are always plenty, and always plenty of little huts to snag in case you want to have some shade. Same with by the pools. We went July 28-Aug 3, and even though it's not a super busy time, we have been before at other times of the year and never had a problem getting front row seats to paradise.

The water is so pleasant....it's great for some casual/beginning snorkeling. See plenty of harmless fish, a small stingray, and just the beauty of unbelievably clear water. If you head down the way just about 15 yards past the resort's booye's, there is a small little coral area in the water that had a lobster, stingray, crab, octopus, and plenty of fish. Especially if you bring a piece of bread - the fish will go crazy! We have also taken the excursion to Palancar Reef -- and we love it. The crew is great, but we always enjoy the adventure of the trip.

ROOMS -- no, the rooms are super luxurious. But for us -- we are only in there to shower after 10 hours on the beach, and to sleep. We don't hand out in there all day. The beds are hard - but they are hard everywhere in Mexico and tropical climates. Apparently the humidity and the moisture can really affect plush mattresses. I brought a $13 twin air mattress (just bigger than a raft) at Target and I slept like a baby. Never had any issues with power, but remember people -- it's an ISLAND!

FOOD -- not the greatest, but you get what you need. We always say we load up at breakfast (omlette bar!) and at lunch all we need is that homemade pico de gallo and guacamole. A couple of strawberry margaritas in the afternoon, and we barely have enough room for dinner....so we eat just enough to make do. There is always something.

SERVICE -- The only issue we had was that some people in the room next to us were fighting quite a bit -- very loud (probably too much cerveza!) And one night we could hear the couple getting very physically violent with each other. So we immediately called the front desk -- told them what was going on, and they offered to help move us to a different room, which we did. It was done in a matter of about 15 minutes. We appreciated that - resort seemed pretty busy and glad they made some special accommodations for us and were quite pleasant about it. We aren't interested in the time shares, so we just told them that we had been there, we have done the time share presentation, not interested, and they left us alone. They got the hint and we weren't harassed.

Overall -- Cozumel is our favorite place in the world. The island is not super over-developed like Cancun and other places in Mexico. It's an island and bit rustic, and that's part of the charm. And the Occidental Allegro isn't the most grand and glorious place in the world, or even on the island! But even places that you pay 3 times more for in Cozumel won't have the beach that this one has. We are low maintenance, we were able to literally lay on a beach for a week and unplug from the busy world, and that's why we love going to this resort. My 11-year-old had a blast. Well worth the money and the time. Just gorgeous.

My husband and I went here for our honeymoon. The first thing when we arrived, the bellman took our bags to allow us to continue on to the welcome desk. As we were checking in we received a cold drink and great customer service. We got upgraded to the honeymoon package which included breakfast in bed 1 morning, a fruit basket, champagne, and 20% of spa services. Our room was ready at 1:30 when we checked in and someone brought our bag to our room and showed us the way. (If your room is not ready since check in is at 4:00, they take your luggage and provide a "hospitality" room so you can change and still enjoy the beach and pool until your room is ready.) Our first room had a thatch roof which was amazing because you could smell it and it really makes for a fun and unique experience. Lunch is by the pool in an outdoor facility. It was buffet style and had a ton of different foods. Dinner is inside an air conditioned facility and has theme nights every night with a ton of food options. Breakfast is also buffet style and has an omlet bar and tons of food options. We had a California King in our room (perk of a honeymooner) and our room was equipped with shelves, a changing room, and a TV with a decent amount of American channels. One day there was a torrential downpour in our area where everything was flooding. The staff worked very hard to keep the lobby dry and comfortable. We went to our room later to to find that it had a lot of water in it including on the bed. We laughed it off because in hindsight, it was just a minor bump that was out of everyones control. Housekeeping was in our room immediately after the storm to get all the water out and we switched rooms just because our bed was really wet. When we went to switch rooms they apologized and immediately starting working on getting a room ready for us. An hour later we were in our new room which was right by the pool and on the ground floor which meant no thatch roof. Like I said though, it didn't put us out and the staff was very accommodating through the whole situation. The best thing about the rooms is that they have a hammock outside all of the rooms and it is very easy to take a snooze in them. There are a lot of iguanas and geckos roaming the facility, but they really aren't a bother. I saw a huge crab one day outside of our room which was so neat to see! I can only imagine how fun it would be for children to get to witness. For children there is a water park which looked really fun. There are two beautiful pools and 1 had a swim up bar. There is also 2 hot tubs and an adult only pool. They have free scuba lessons in the pool everyday and when the cruise ships come in, the demo is in the ocean which I took advantage of! The instructor is so nice and helpful! We even got to snorkel in the ocean and kayak as well. They have Hobie cats with free lessons, but we weren't brave enough to try that! The best thing about the resort is that there is a designated swim area in the ocean where boats and jet skies aren't allowed so you feel really safe swimming and snorkeling in the ocean. The bartenders make really good mojitos and I am sure that the rest of their drinks are just as good! The hotel provided entertainment every day/ night which included dancing lessons, movies, karaoke, games, and so much more! It really was a blast and I would return there again!

Room Tip: Rooms further away from the lobby are more quiet because the theater is right next to the lobby. All...

This place is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in over 7 hotels in the Island of Cozumel in the past year. Please don't take your family to this hotel. Not only the food was poor but the services was even worse. Be careful were you go in Cozumel do a lot of research on where you are going to stay. One great place to stay is Iberoestar resort

Our family stayed at the Allegro July 28th thru August 4th. This was our 13th trip to the resort and it was outstanding as usual. The staff is what makes this resort so special and will keep us, and the other loyal visitors, coming back! Raul Hernandez leads the activity department at Allegro and he is AWESOME!!!! He goes out of his way to keep things fun at the resort, is fantastic with the kids and creates a very fun environment during the evening shows/events. Raul has been there for years and is a GREAT guy. - Raul Ojeda will take care of any of your needs on the food & beverage side. He will do everything possible to take care of you as well during your stay. - As for the ever important bartenders, there is none better than Freddie. All of these folks have developed great relationships with our family and we have a great time every year.

I dont need to repeat much of the good and bad you see on the other reviews. Take them with a grain of salt. Fact is, this is a very nice resort with average to above average food and has the best beach of any resort on the island. If you want a 5-star experience then Allegro, or any other resort on Cozumel, is not for you. There are not any. That said, if you like beautiful grounds, good accomidations, good food and outstanding people that go out of their way to make you feel special then the Allegro is for you.

You may see some bad reviews below about the resort losing power for some time several weeks back. What these folks dont say is that this was NOT the Allegro's fault. The entire south side of the island lost power...not just the Allegro.

Make sure and take advantage of the speciality restaurants...the food is much better there. That said, the buffet is good. Breakfast is best. Dinner themes change nightly. If it gets too repetitive, dinner at Alberto's on the beach a mile down the road should not be missed. Also, make sure and rent a jeep, dune buggy or moped and go to the east side of the island. Short drive and beautiful over there.

All in all, the Allegro is a great place and my family looks forward to it every year. We only wish we could go more than once per year. As long as the employees remain the same we will always go back.

This is a good resort for the money you pay. Great for families. The rooms were pretty nice except for the world's most uncomfortable beds. They are essentially concrete slabs with mattress pads on top. The resort has an excellent beach area and that really is the best thing about the resort. This counts for quite a bit. There is some good snorkeling on the resort which was nice. Of course, there are plenty of activities to do outside the resort. Some are free and some are not. They are all reasonable however.

The food was below average. Not all that much Mexican food. Lunch is basically the same everyday. More average American food like hamburgers and fries than food you might expect. This place has two restaurants (sit down with a menu) and two buffet style places (one for lunch and one for dinner). You must have reservations for the sit down restaurants and you are limited to two reservations for a week long stay. There is a nice beach bar on the beach. The entire resort only has Corona on draft and it is never all that cold. There are other various other activities throughout the day for adults and children and in the evening as well.

This place would have gotten a higher rating if it weren't for the annoying employees trying to sell us a timeshare the moment we stepped foot on the resort. They continued to do this on and off throughout our stay. They trick you at the beginning by offering to take you to their neighboring resort for a 'better breakfast.' In reality, it is the same breakfast with alcohol and you have to sit through a 1.5 - 2 hour presentation on their vacation club. We wasted a lot of time with this. Time that we could have spent relaxing or doing anything else.

Room Tip: The upgraded rooms are closer to the beach and include a small fridge with beverages and slightly mo...
