“Exactly What We Were Looking For”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

I will start this review by saying I have stayed at a lot of resorts/hotels/all-inclusives.

My girlfriend and planned this trip solely for the purpose of diving. We booked online and got a dive/stay/eat package at an affordable price. I read many reviews on here before going and I was expecting a very mediocre stay. The stay exceeded our expectations.

Food - The buffets and snack bar had decent food. It was kind of bland, but I think that is more hotels in Cozumel in general. I never went hungry, but also was amazed by the buffet food. The two "reservation" restaurants (Mexican and Oriental) were REALLY good. If you go, make sure you make reservations to these restaurants. You usually have to make them the day before or same day (we tried to make the reservations for the week when we checked in, but they told us we couldn't make the reservations until the day before the dinner).

Staff - Everyone at the resort was amazing. The staff was very friendly and funny. There were not a lot of people when we went (May 10-17), so we never really had to wait for food/drinks too long. I did notice that many of the same people were at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and serving at the bars. The staff work really hard, but I am guessing the resort as a whole is understaffed. This means it might take you a few minutes to get a drink (get over it and enjoy the beautiful weather!).

Entertainment - The shows were a bit different from what I have seen at other resorts. They entertainers did a good job, but the shows were not as elaborate/"showy" as what I have seen at resorts in Cancun and other places. Again, we did go in the off season. Also, the daytime party life was lacking, but it was more relaxing that way.

Rooms - The rooms were pretty standard, except that the mattresses were really firm (my only real complaint).

Check out my other review if you want information about Pro Dive Mexico (they are the dive shop onsite) - Awesome people/operation.

Short Version - If you a fussy/not well traveled/expect everyone at a resort to kiss your butt, don't stay here, you won't like it. If you are looking for a good vacation and can go with the flow, check out the Allegro, you will probably love it!

Room Tip: If you are diving, ask to be closer to the dive shop. It made for shorter walks!

room was good, clean and everything worked, but tv was from last century and small. Food was supposed to be available except for between 5 and 6, but there was nowhere to get anything for that hour, and if you were diving, that could be very inconvenient. The one that was supposed to be open till 5, I was there at 4:45, and everything was put away already and getting cleaned up. When I got back in from the afternoon dive, by time i showered and changed, I couldn't eat until the other restaurant opened, and they didn't open on time. After an afternoon diving this wasn't just inconvenient, it was dangerous. Food was not anything special. It was convenient for diving, but it was a 20 to go into town and 20 back if you wanted to see anything but hotel.

Room Tip: If you are diving, the rooms with higher #'s are closer to dive shop and ocean.

We've just returned from a week at the Allegro Cozumel. This appears to be a older resort that has been somewhat updated. I loved the "jungle" feel of the place. The thatched roofs while cool did have a very musty, moldy smell. It was a little difficult to get used to in our room. I loved though that this is not a 10 story hotel on the beach. The guest cottages were only two story and had four rooms each. Our ac did not work in our room but was quickly fixed upon request. The beds on the other hand, wow! The box spring is actually made of concrete! We asked for a egg crate and was given one. That saved us, would not have been able to sleep without it.

Food was ok, not great but you could find something every day. Drinks were good. Highly recommend the almond coloda. Only complaint was the bars were not open at all times. You had to hike around looking for one at different times of the day.

Upon arrival you are asked to visit there sister resort for breakfast. We asked point blank several times if it was for a timeshare presentation and was assured it was not. Well it is! Don't waste your time! You can scooters, snorkeling etc for half price thru other vendors without their half price coupon you get with timeshare spill.

Best part of this resort is the beach! Beautiful sand, tons of chairs. Never had to get there early for a seat. Loved this area of Cozumel for the beach.

Service was Fair, could have been better. They are not very friendly especially the front desk staff. Rude when we got there when we asked to be located close to our friends.

Room Tip: Just ask to be as close to the beach as possible. Otherwise you'll have a walk!

We stayed at the Allegro the last ten days of April. This was our second stay here and I have to say we had a great time.. It just depends on what your expectations are. If you are looking for 5 star food, large updated rooms then this is not the place for you. However if you are looking for a beautiful beach. well maintained grounds, excellent staff (that will bend over backwards to make your vacation one to remember) and you have value in mind, this is the place for you. You can always find something good to eat and the drinks are always plentiful. What I have always found at any AI is if you tip the people that serve you they appreciate it and they will give you good service also if you contact them ahead of time with requests for bed toppers or room positioning they will do their best to accommodate. We will definitely return for another great time in Cozumel and at the Allegro!!! Hats off to the staff there and thank you for another great vacation!!

We were at the Allegro May 1 to May 15. We had a great time. Special thanks to Raul and his entertainment staff. They had great shows and they make you feel at home. The shows at night were great. The activities during the day were wonderful. I loved the guacamole. We will be returning.

My husband and I were joined this trip with our two daughters and son in law. We were there May 2, 2014 for 7 nights. It was a slow time there, but we had a great and relaxing time. Everyone is so friendly and super nice there. Our rooms were closer to the ocean, which was nice. It was good to see Freddie, Sergio, Anna, Carolina, and all our Allegro friends. We recommend going on the Albertos snorkel trip, the Island tour, the other side of the island is breathtaking. We also ate at Albertos beach club... very nice..

Room Tip: I would recommend getting a room closer to the beach and on the first floor.

Allegro review

I'm very disappointed if I could I would give it No Stars.

- Customer service is not good. Everyone doesn't seem happy and approachable. When it came to service unless you had dollar bills they would be nice.

We arrived 3 hours early from our check in time during the week and the place didn't seem crowded. We took an overnight flight and arrived very tired. They weren't friendly as soon as we arrived and didn't bother to give us any room that was available. We had to wait the three hours.

- If you're a nacho, French fries, hot dog and burger person well you will enjoy this place. The buffet was not that great. They served hot dogs, nachos and burger daily. Sometime they would have pastas, macaroni and cheese and chicken fajitas. I was not content.

- They only had 2 ( Mexican & Asian) different dinning restaurants and reservations is required. The food was ok.

We were told to come the next day between 9am-12:00pm to make reservations. My boyfriend arrived exactly at 9am and was told everything was booked. Of course he complain and was able to make a reservation. During or dinner the place was more than half empty. Also they always seem to not have something on the menu.

- The pool and jacuzzi were not clean. In particular the jacuzzi. They don't seem to clean the pool daily. The kids pool seemed fun and clean but I'm not sure I just pass by.

- The rooms were decent. The resort is decent it has a few things that are sketchy. The sink water was salty and smelly.

- When we needed extra water bottles we ask a worker and they denied us. They said they couldn't because the boss is keeping tract of the bottles. We had to go up front and ask the receptionist. Only one bottle was given.

- The beach is very beautiful. I recommend going snorkeling and renting a jeep and check out the town specially other local beaches.
