Just landed back home from Cozumel; wish I could have stayed longer! Staff is great, the bellman is friendly, servers are on their toes (Francisco), the rental guy was very helpful (Theo and Jose). Had a blast and can't wait to go back!

Definatley recommend walking down and across the street for one meal for te steak and Lobster, can't remember the name of it.

Also recommend renting a jeep from Theo at Fiesta (there in the hotel) very friendly guy and very helpful.

Its on the north side of the island, a little far from all of the reefs and snorkeling/diving opportunities. A cab to downtown is $8 and would be more if you wanted to go anywhere else. We rented a scooter which i highly recommend at $25 a day from a Rental place downtown. All the locals drive motos and it is really fun, and kind of scary. The service at the hotel was excellent and we felt like royalty. All the staff are super friendly, a little Spanish and a few tips go a long way, and everything was constantly being cleaned. The beach was really nice a clean and there is a great swimming area with lots of fish to look at with the included snorkel gear, although there is no reef here.

My only complaint is the food. Breakfast is great, since its pretty hard to mess up breakfast. But lunch and dinner were lacking in quality and fresh produce. It was easy to tell this was done on a budget, and I ended up eating fish and broccoli almost every night. However, for the price and considering everything else, its really not that big of a deal, unless you are a major foodie. It saved us mucho dinero, we were never hungry, and that's enough for us. They also have unlimited filtered water (BRING YOUR OWN BOTTLE) and neither of us ever got even a little sick.

Oh, and the 4 hour snorkeling tour is a rip off. Its 3 hours of driving and less tha 1 hour of snorkeling (sorry Alan!)

SO if you're on a budget and care more about activites and recreation than food, this is a great choice for you!

We are leaving today for a 2 week vacation to EL COZ and have always loved it. Staff is very pleasant and food offerings are better than average. This time we have booked a trip to see the Myan ruins...taking a ferry to the mainland and staying steps away from the piramid. Bought some new snorkel gear as there is much to see under the water. The restaurants down town are lovely and give you a feel for the culture. All in all just love Cozumel and this resort! Highly recommended!

We got a great deal with a Groupon and had a very nice stay. It was relaxing and the room was nice. While we were wary of the food due to the reviews, we found the food in the buffet to be fine for us. The fish was always good and the taco bar was excellent. I really enjoyed the French toast for breakfast.

We've been coming to the resort for years, the staff know us. We are still thrilled to see that William, Aldo, Jose (both of them), and many other really good people are there. However, they were stretched very thin and running around a lot trying to do a great job as always. We noticed a huge change in service from previous years, it certainly was not nearly as good. Many good people have been replaced and there were a lot of new employees. Some of the people that cook the food at the buffet were very rude and acted irritated to serve what you asked for. I love this hotel and it's people, I am using this review space as a way to let them know that the service seemed to be slipping this year so hopefully they get back on track. They should also consider keeping change in dollars for their customers so that we can properly tip good staff. Hotel, pool and beach were clean as always, hot tub was cold as always, love the live music during Ironman although we are not participants (some of them are very rude). Wish the child care would accept children that are potty trained and up instead of 5 years and up.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are fantastic because they are all ocean view rooms with great balconies.

Service was really good. All of the staff tried to go above and beyond. However, the food was mediocre at best and the alcohol was watered down or just too low quality to contain enough alcohol to feel any effects from it.

We just returned from a one week stay at El Cozumelano. There were certainly pros and cons, but all in all, we enjoyed it. we got a great deal from Groupon, which made it well worth the value. Some of the nice features were very nice, friendly staff, large room overlooking the sea, beautiful view of sunsets. The food was average for an all inclusive. There was wifi in the common area, but not in your room.
Some negatives were there were no umbrellas or shade by the pool and the chaises were old by the beach and uncomfortable. The breakfast was supposed to open at 7:00 but they were always a couple of minutes late to open. This would not have been a big deal, but if you were going scuba diving you had to be in the lobby by 7:15. The gym also was supposed to open at 7:00 but wasn't and it was also very run down with old equipment and not much to offer.
The rooms were rather humid although cool with the AC on high.
I dive and used the company on the premises, Ocean Tours. They were very good and i highly recommend them. The only negative is that they are not near most of the dive sites, but I didn't mind.
All in all, I would recommend the hotel as long as you are not expecting a five star accomodation.

Room Tip: We had 1917 and loved it. Quiet and great view.
