Just returned from our stay. I'm still on the fence. I dont know if it's because we've been spoiled at other resorts or what. I read a lot of reviews before we left, which we booked 6 days before leaving. As with all reviews, everyone will have a different experience. Please do not let the taxi drivers rip you off. As long as you're traveling on North side of the island, it's 8.00 flat rate. The resort is very diligent at reiterating that.

Food: The outside restaurant, watch for ants on the bread and desserts. Over-all, it's all inclusive. The inside restaurant, you're required to make reservations, didn't understand why, it never filled up. You're required to fill out a survey at the end if dinner. Awkward, I filled it out for my table of 6, mgmt began questioning us, so much for an "anonymous" survey. Room service, good food, although the server stood with the door open, waiting on a tip. Seriously?

Rooms: Bed was hard, pillows flat, small holes in sheets. We had an ant problem in our bathroom. They came immediately to spray. The cold and hot water knobs turn opposite of the norm. There's no clock in the room. View was great, we had an ocean view room in the new tower. The AC, it does it's job. We set it at 70 during the day, with curtains closed. Evening time, it's tolerable. There's no AC in the lobby, main resturant. The rooms could benefit from ceiling fans. Make sure if you do not want your room cleaned, place the red door marker out. The maids will come in whether you have the service side out or not.
Overall, it served it's purpose. Shower, toliet, bed. It's Mexico.

Service: Bell service, great. Mateo and Aaron at the main pool bar, were great. Our one time "fine" dining, our server seemed annoyed with us, we were pretty low maintenance. The outdoor resturant, rarely need to ask for anything, as they provided excellent service.

Pool: if you're looking for relaxation, the adult pool is the best place. The main pool, the youngsters hang out, games played, music. The adult pool appeared to stay cleaner than the main. There are ants and small sand bugs. They bite. Many people in other reviews mistakened the bites for bed bugs, it's from the sand. Had the same problem when we went to St. Lucia. Birds do poo on the lounge chairs, simply ask to have it cleaned off. Yes there are a lot of birds. They do not bother you, just want what you didn't eat. I suggested small water guns.

The Karoke bar is currently closed. We heard it's not "high" season and it's being renovated. Either way a few people we met said, when it's open, it's a great time!!!! We went onto the square our last night, recommend Wet Wendy's.

We felt like we were sleeping on box springs instead of a mattress. Loud noises all night long so don't expect to sleep.

The birds were everywhere in the outdoor restaurant. We watched the birds sucking cheese from the Nacho Cheese dispenser & then guest putting cheese on their food or chips. Yuck. The staff did the best they could to chase the birds away without much luck. Bird poo was everywhere.

The staff were great.

Great pool. Rooms clean and nice. Ate in the restaurant instead of the buffet. Birds flying around the buffet - the restaurant was wonderful. Food varied and very good. Service in the restaurant was wonderful.

My husband and I just returned from a mini getaway here. I wanted to touch base on a few things that I read most about while I was reading reviews before we left. This was our 4th time to Mexico, first time to this resort. We would not return.

Now, I totally understand that everyone is different. I myself take reviews with a grain of salt. One person hates a place while the next loves it. These are just my thoughts. I will say, this being our 4th time, we've never had 1 complaint about anywhere else we've stayed. Just to let you know, we aren't one of those "impossible to please, complains about everything couples"

ROOMS- We were given a double bed room in the OLD part. We didn't enjoy our room at all. Everyone is correct, if you can get in the new tower do that. Our room was old and dated, the air wasn't cold and the beds were hard. There was mold in the bathroom, everything in there felt "moist" all the time, nothing would dry. Not a fan of our room at all. We spoke to several people in the new tower and several people who demanded to be moved from the old to new, nobody likes the old rooms... We know you don't spend much time in the room, so we definitely didn't get pissed. We dealt with it and it was fine.

FOOD- We were totally fine with the food. If you are familiar with all inclusives, the food is always the same to us. No, it's not always amazing but we don't mind the food and we never go hungry. There are only 2 restaurants though, one is a buffet and one is a reservation one (take nice clothes), there is a snack bar too. You can eat breakfast & lunch at the nicer one during the day. We honestly enjoyed both. I ate my weight in chips, pico and guac! We enjoyed a pork tenderloin meal one night and a chicken pasta meal another night at the nicer one. I loved the lime pie at the restaurant as well.

DRINKS- Same here, all of these all inclusives serve the same type of drinks. We enjoy them! They don't want a bunch of drunk kids so they aren't always the strongest, makes sense. If you want more liquor, just say so :) You can take your own large cups too fyi.

STAFF- We were both a little surprised at how some of them were down right rude to us. Don't get me wrong, most were super nice. After several times in Mexico, we always rave about how amazing and special they always make us feel. Unfortunately we didn't really feel that here.

BEACH- Not what we expected. I was glad I took my water shoes because I was surprised at all of the rocks. If you walk a little towards Melia it's much nicer. It was not horrible though, good snorkeling which we enjoyed. You can rent snorkel stuff for free for 1 hour.

We never had an issue getting reservations to the restaurant or getting chairs on the beach or at the pool. We never got down there until at least 8:30am either and it was the 4th of July holiday.

There is wifi in the lobby if you need it, not in your room.

We booked this trip last minute and kind of blindly to be honest, we just wouldn't return. We did have a very relaxing vacation though and we enjoyed the food and drinks!

Room Tip: Get a room in the new tower!

I spent 7 days in Cozumel at the El Cozumelena resort; The jr. suite was great, clean and well stocked with bottled water. (Drink ONLY BOTTLED WATER) Constant repairs were always being done Because of the salt water that comes from the beach areas; the pools were gorgeous and well kept; the beach are was good but be prepared for the rocky beach. It was nice altho I enjoyed the pool areas much better, some were in the sun and some were in covered area; wonderful! It is a family oriented resort so there were always families with children around but overall it was great. There were several activities for the visitors in and around the pool area, i e scuba, snorkeling, games in the water ect. You can also rent a vehicle and tour the island yourself, BUT DO THROUGH THE HOTEL, ITS. LESS EXPENSIVE.

Room Tip: Choose room facing pool area and beach.

We spent 7 days at El Coz and returned yesterday. I'll give you the highlights of the hotel:

Service: The service was much better this year than last year. I did notice a management change, although still a lot of familiar faces. I did notice no Francisco at the front desk? Everyone was helpful and eager to wait on us.

Room: We were originally put into room 1812. We have never stayed in the south tower, although newer, because we travel with our son and love the extra room in the north tower. They didn't have anything for us in north tower so spent the night in south and moved the next morning. It was all very smooth and did not take a lot of our time at all. We were very happy with our room. Air was very cold, which was nice. Yes, beds are hard and pillows even harder, we know that and expect it. We always bring down an extra foam cover for one of the beds (mine!) so that helps a bit. Maids were wonderful and for those who complained about not having enough bottled water and having to purchase, leave a few dollars under the empty water bottles in bathroom and she will take care of you. We had extras left over!

Food: If you can not find SOMETHING to eat here, you have to be a picky eater. Breakfast: made to order omelets, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, french toast, pancakes, sweet rolls, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal.

Lunch: they grill something for lunch each day, fajitas, chicken, fresh fish, kabobs, steak. Buffet has more meat choices (usually they grill up a LOT of the meats and put them in the trays right there so it is still fresh in the tray!), vegetables, rice, beans, chips, salsa, salad fixins, rolls. During lunch you can order off the menu, no excuses there! Club sandwiches, fresh grilled fish with rice and veggies, nachos, pizza...just to name a few things.

Dinner: When dinner is outside, they usually have one spotlight item they are grilling, otherwise it is buffet. This is the only meal that becomes boring but we still found something to eat. You can also order room service all day!

Every time we sat down to eat, I would say, how can people NOT find something to eat here without complaining about it??

The water was beautiful and the weather was perfect. The ONLY negative of the trip was a party of (60) 24-30 year olds showed up mid trip. Wow, that was crazy. Our nice, quiet, relaxing vacation turned into a frat party on spring break and these people were old enough to behave and didn't. It was terrible. We tried to not let it ruin our trip by going downtown one day and walking down the beach for the day one day. There were many other guests who were not happy either. They ALL went on the Fury on Saturday and were gone all day, that made all of us very happy.

Overall, another wonderful trip to paradise!!

This hotel was on the smaller side, so there was only 2 restaurants. One buffet which was open from 7am til 10pm. The other required reservations and rotated it's food menu every other day. Food was good and there were many options to choose from.

The hotel staff was accommodating. However, the entertainment staff was almost non existent. They did a pool game around lunchtime but that was it. There was no evening entertainment (shows).

The pool has strange dividing walls in it that makes it difficult to navigate from one end to the other and does not give easy access to the pool bar (if that is what is important to you).

The beach was clean and snorkeling was great right off the hotel. We saw stingrays, all kinds of fish, crabs, and even a seahorse.

I would recommend this hotel to others!

Room Tip: Pay the extra $25 for ocean view. It is well worth it!
