We have been vacationing in Cozumel for about 15 years with most of that spent at the Playa Azul. We stayed there before the new addition when there was maybe 20 rooms. It is still the best place if you want peace and quiet and superb service. We celebrated another anniversary there with an awesome dinner, flowers and Tres Leches cake...we even had 2 birthdays to celebrate!! The golfers enjoyed themselves and I was content to just stay at the beach and relax. Martha and Fernando and their entire staff are so accomodating and we always look forward to seeing our friends that work there. This is truly a piece of heaven.

This review is in two parts: 1)Wedding. 2)overall stay at Playa Azul

1) We recently had our wedding with 50 guests at Playa Azul. The wedding itself and the experience for us and our guests was absolutely perfect. The service, facilities, location...everything was just right. Planning the wedding was done completely via email with a few phone calls. The wedding coordinators(Stephanie and Lluvia from cozumel wedding planner) did their job so well I didn't worry about anything except enjoying the wonderful day. These ladies are so competent and professional it is a joy to work with them. They managed the judge and legal requirements, the mariachi band(which was great and very fun), the photographer(excellent photos, we haven't seen the video yet), and all the other parts of the ceremony.
Miguel (Playa Azul food and beverage manager) fulfilled every request we had about the food and beverages at the reception without a problem so a good time was definitely had by all. They do a great job in the kitchen here, everything was fresh. Many of our guests went out of their way to compliment the dinner and drinks at the reception.
The entire experience was wonderful. We had exactly the wedding and party we had hoped for all while staying on budget. There were absolutely no hidden/last minute/extra fees whatsoever. The whole crew is up front, honest and easy to work with.

2) We stayed for 7 days and our guests all stayed from 3-10 days at the hotel. The rooms are clean and well maintained with comfortable beds and good air conditioning. All of our guests reported feeling welcome and safe here. Breakfast every morning was excellent with fresh fruit and all the usual american breakfast foods as well as mexican style dishes. Some of our group had the all inclusive plan and they enjoyed the food and drink selection. They ordered food from the menu all day and had well crafted top shelf drinks including fresh mint in every very good mojito! We did breakfast only so we would be encouraged to explore the island rather than hang out at the hotel the whole time. As it turns out hanging out at the hotel is really quite awesome with some of the best snorkeling around right there. Bring your snorkel gear since the watersports rental place next door rents them by the hour and that's just not long enough to see it all.
We had three kids in our group (ages 5-8) and although I'm pretty sure they were the only kids staying at the hotel they had a great time in the pool and snorkeling in the sea.
Only one couple from our group went golfing and they reported that the course was nice but the free golf did end up costing them around $100 each with cart fee, club rental, golf balls and drinks.
Honestly I don't think all of the good things about this hotel will fit in this little review. It's a well run smaller hotel in a great location.

Room Tip: All the rooms really do have an ocean view, not just a little sliver, like the real deal with a balcony. Not all floors have an elevator though, so if you need an elevator let them know when you book.

This is an excellent hotel in a great location. Miguel the food and beverage manager made our stay very special. Set up a romantic dinner under the gazebo at sunset you won't be disappointed! Good snorkeling right off the beach. The best thing about this hotel is the service and smiling staff. Don't miss the live band Sunday afternoons.

Room Tip: Room 301 suite with jacuzzi.

My friend and I stayed at Playa Azul for the New Year's holiday and had a wonderful and relaxing experience. The rooms were very clean, although sparingly decorated. The view of the ocean was amazing and the sunsets are to die for. We ate breakfast at the hotel every morning and there was always a nice variety of foods and by the end of the trip the wonderful wait staff knew exactly what we liked. It was a nice touch. Everyone at the hotel was nice and friendly, both guests and the staff. The beach was small but comfortable and there were palapas and chairs for guests. Although some days they weren't available because people had put their belongings on the chairs to "reserve" them, which was frustrating. The hotel was close enough to the center of town that you could take a leisurely walk and get there in 20-30 minutes. We did this one time and it was nice to see the island up close, but mostly we jumped in a taxi. There are usually one or two cabs sitting in front of the hotel which is very convenient. All in all, we had a very good experience at Playa Azul.

Just wanted to say thanks to Miguel and everyone at the Playa Azul for helping me with a suprise "Mayan" wedding for me and my wife. I had wanted to get her something special for Valentine's Day and thought a suprise wedding for her would be a great idea. One thing though, I didn't know where to begin. I called the Playa Azul and they put my in touch with Miguel. Miguel got back to me right away and recommended Jesus Edwardo (a mayan Shaman) to perform the ceremony, and Alberto Burciaga to be our photographer. Both were outstanding to work with and both did an outstanding job. Everything went off without a hitch; and the most beautiful wedding you could imagine took place right there on the beach. Cool blue water, white sandy beaches and the perfect sunset.
Thanks again Miguel. You have made memories that will last a lifetime.....

Room Tip: All rooms are great, but you can watch the sun set on your balcony every night from room 402
