We just came back from a week at the Blue Angel and feel like we stepped back in time; you know before mega resorts and impersonal service. It’s a small rustic hotel right on the water with just the right atmosphere to make you relax and enjoy yourself. The hotel has 22 large rooms; all with an ocean view. There’s a small beach, a swimming pool, and dock from which the dive boats are dispatched. Free wi-fi in the lobby and an attentive staff and owner to make sure your stay is perfect. There’s a great restaurant overlooking the water with excellent authentic food economically priced. The 241 happy hour margaritas and excellent Mexican guitar player (he plays 4 nights a week) make dinner a romantic affair and the beautiful sunsets with the lights of Playa del Carmen twinkling on the horizon top it off. Dinner includes a free tequila shot and dessert. Choose the flan, it’s delicious. Breakfast is included in your room price and the banana pancakes with eggs and bacon were my favorite.
The dive shop is onsite and has small, fast boats to take you to the dive sites you pick out. We had a max of 8 divers on our boat. The dive masters were great; they pointed out the animal life and let you dive at your own pace and time your dive based on your air supply. Eva, the owner, went out of her way to make sure our dives were comfortable and even arranged dives in Playa when the waves shut down the marine park to all divers. Shore diving is easy with access steps away from the dive shop. On top of all that, divers get lunch free!
The worst thing about the Blue Angel is leaving; you’ll want to stay forever! We are already planning our return trip.

We spent a week at this fantastic property and loved it! Eva is fantastic and makes you feel like family! The rooms are very large and very clean, the front entrance and sitting area is a great place to relax, and the entire staff is friendly and welcoming! We took part in a "Sea Turtle Rescue" with Jeannie and it was very informative and fun. The restaurant staff including Benji and his brother (Mr. Happy Face!) and Marta and everyone else there were so accommodating and friendly, and our meals were great! We will most definitely be going back!

If you want to dive, or snorkel, or just relax, this is a charming and friendly and inexpensive little resort hotel. The staff is helpful and friendly, and the cust. service manager (Jeanie) was SO helpful even before my trip; with booking and with detailed instructions on how to get from the Cozumel airport to the resort (ignore the ‘tourism advisory’ guys accosting you at the airport, they are time share salesmen; where to buy tickets for the shuttle to the different resorts; you don’t need to change any money, everyone accepts American money in small bills). This was all a great help! Then the resort itself was delightful; the room was charming and rustic; the open-air restaurant just a few steps away was good and also friendly. There was a really good guitar player one evening at dinner at the restaurant.

The beach right at the foot of the hotel is not a sandy beach, but rather a coral outcropping full of beautiful tropical fish! I saw a huge ray one morning swimming at the next resort over. You can borrow snorkel gear from the dive shop when you want to swim right near the hotel. There are also free kayaks to borrow, and a pool, and of course chaises for just sunning and relaxing.

You hear so much about Mexico being dangerous, but Cozumel is a nice little town. The hotel’s welcome letter let us know that every Sunday night there is a party in the town square with a live band, so we walked into town (shopping at plenty of souvenir shops along the way) and it was a lovely scene, a fun salsa band in the gazebo, locals and tourists hanging out listening and dancing. You don’t need a partner, middle-aged ladies and families and little kids were all dancing with each other.

The dive shop’s equipment was excellent (I rented all my dive gear on site) and the dive masters were excellent, enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable. The dive operation picks up divers from many other hotels, including ‘on the mainland’ (Cancun, etc.) who come over on the ferry to dive on Cozumel. I was there in October, the slow season, and it was wonderful to have only 5 divers on the boat with 2 dive masters, because they could point things out to us and keep an eye on all of us. The boat can take up to 18 divers, so I think in the busy season it would be more of a hectic crowd scene.

Heads up on one thing: lunch at the Blue Angel restaurant is included after the dives. If you are staying at the Blue Angel, you get a better lunch than the other divers who are in a hurry to get back to the ferry. That is, all the divers who are not staying at the hotel just get one set plate and a pitcher of red kool-aid-type drink that they call ‘hibiscus tea’. If you are staying at the Blue Angel, you can order from the menu and have a choice of beer, soft drink or bottled water. So make sure you tell the waiter if you ARE staying at the hotel!

I can’t wait to go back.

Room Tip: all rooms are ocean view on one side and outdoor hallway on the other side.

After searching online , I decided Blue Angel seemed like a good fit for me.In fact I had such a great time I extended for another week! From owner Eva, to managers Jeanie and Mike and all of the staff I felt like family by the time I left. All of the rooms are ocean view,as is the upper level open air bar / restaurant. The rooms are clean, the food is excellent ,the onsite dive shop is convenient and well staffed .Be sure to participate in the sea turtle rescue program the resort supports. Thanks to all at Blue Angel for an unforgettable experience! I will return.

Room Tip: Upper level rooms offer great views, choose lower level if you have a problem with steps.

We were staying in our time share, but traveled the island to try many restaurants. We read about Blue Angel and decided to try it. It was DELICIOUS!! Our waiter, Isi, was great. It was a fun place, and great food, beautiful view. We go to Cozumel often, so we will definitely go back. Really loved it.

Great for: diving, relaxing, great food and the best staff on the island. If you are coming to Coz to dive this should be the place to stay. Instruction: Patience, professionalism and most important Matt (Mateo). They all go out of their way to make sure you have a great time.

Not Great for: Families with small kids. Nice pool but is more situated for adults.

Rooms are big and open with simple decor. Clean and tidy thanks to Francisco.

Management: Jeanie and Eva all do a great job and I can't say enough about Andrea up front. She is wonderfully helpful.

Restaurant: Should be on your list to visit while in Coz. There are plenty of expensive and bad food restaurants in Coz. this is in the top 5 on the island. Maybe top 3.

Only issues we had: Matresses need to be replaced in 104 specifically. Never had a harder mattress. TV reception is really bad also. Both of these items are easily fixable.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean. Not a bad room in the hotel.

My husband and I just returned from a great week of dving at the Blue Angel Hotel and Dive Shop. The diving was great. The food at the restaurant was the best. Our accomodations were clean and very confortable. We can't say enough good things about the staff. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Andrea and Denise at the front desk, to Martha in the kitchen! The dive staff are very professional and try to accomodate eveyones' wishes. We look forward to returning soon!

Room Tip: We liked the fourth floor for the view, but not for everyone since there is no elevator. We just co...
