In 2012, our cruise stopped in Cozumel, and some expat friends took us to Sabores, their favorite neighborhood restaurant. It was the sort of place where you walk in the front door, through the living room and the kitchen, out the back door, to where they have 5 or 6 tables set up, with oilcloth tablecloths and overhead lanterns, and serve you the best Mexican food you ever had in your life for a nearly laughably cheap sum.
So this year -- 2013 -- when we again found ourselves in Cozumel, we wanted to go back. My husband had taken a way-point on his GPS, so we went straight there -- only to find the restaurant gone. We were standing there in dismay and disbelief, when the nice man in the shop across the street came out and asked, "You looking for the restaurant?"
We said yes, and he led us a half-block down to an actual restaurant building where Sabores had just re-opened for business. Same wonderful food, same personal service, same great prices. So very highly recommended. Try the Pollo con Mole Poblano; it rocks.
